(Cristo Pictures Presents)
(Fade to a portrait of a man and a woman and a child; the man’s face is torn out of the portrait)
Narrator: At the dawn of the Age of Enlightenment, an age of advancement and revolution, there was a man whose works shocked the stable and sensible men of his time. His philosophy was unheard of, his manner of reasoning quite unreasonable. He believed that man, being a conscious and intelligent being, did not deserve one lifetime of mistakes that they could never fix. He felt that man should be able to travel through eons of time and experience everything that life had to offer, not be tied down to one life. Doing so, he proposed that, with enough work, man should be able to travel through time. It was an idea that even the most controversial of the scholars shunned. It was an idea that was not put in the history books, but mocked in rowdy bars by drunken men. It was an idea that cursed the creator of it with a social stigma and that turned him into an outcast of society. But, not everyone took his work lightly. There were three other men who felt connected to the works of this man.
(Fade to a farmhouse)
Narrator: They felt that his works were so relevant that they traveled all the way to his hometown to meet him. At first, he was shocked that they had come all the way to meet him, but soon the shock wore away and he began to discuss theory with them earnestly. That night, they all agreed that the four of them would work towards making a machine that would be able to transport humans through time: a time machine of sorts.
(Fade to black)
Narrator: On January 13th 1701 at 4:32 a.m., the first time machine was completed. At 9:01 p.m., about 17 hours after completion, all four men had died.
(The title “One Life” appears on the screen)
