Pilot Episode: The Flies

Fade in: A seedy-looking apartment.
JAKE SMIRK, a 23- year old, fresh out of college, is asleep on his couch. He snores loudly.
We PAN OVER TO THE- TV, loudly playing what seems to be RAMBO. We hear a loud banging on the door.
Jake LIFTS HIS HEAD, groggily awake. He looks over at the TV, grabs the remote and switches it off. He walks over to the door. He is wearing some jeans and a t-shirt, and looks like he's been sleeping in it for days. He opens the door, the chain lock still connected to the door.
GRETA AMOSOVICH, an old lady from across the hall, bangs on the door one last triumphant time.
GRETA
Do you have any idea what time it is?
JAKE
Uh... no?
GRETA
It's two in the goddamn morning, that's what it is. And, you are two months late in your rent.
JAKE
No I'm not.
GRETA
Yes, you are. I want the money by tommorow, or you are out of here.
JAKE
I'll get it.
Greta gives him a look.
Fade out.
SMASH IN- Outside the apartment. Jake looks up, longingly, suitcase in hand.
SUBTITLE- TOMMOROW.
He sadly begins walking toward the street. A car pulls up. Jake looks over. A man in a suit gets out of the limo.
SUIT GUY
Jake Smirk?
JAKE
Who the hell are you?
SUIT GUY
Not the police.
JAKE
Fine then. Bye bye.
Jake turns to leave.Suddenly, Suit guy pulls out a huge handgun and fires. Jake is hit in the back. His eyes are wide open.
JAKE
Oh, sh.....
Another suit guy gets out of the car and injects something into Jake's neck with a syringe.
Jake immedietly passes out cold. The second suit guy begins dragging Jake into the car.
SUIT GUY
Take him immedietly to the base. This one's not to be messed with.
THE BASE
FADE IN: a park- day
SOPHIE GARDNER, a 31-year old woman, quietly sits at a park bench, drinking coffee.
Her cell phone rings. He digs inside her purse, and pulls out an old-fashioned flip-phone.
SOPHIE
Hello?
She quietly listens. Her face becomes stoic.
SOPHIE
Yeah. Yeah, I am.
She becomes upset.
SOPHIE
Alex, I've told you a million times... Shut the hell up!
She stands up.
SOPHIE
It's over. He's dead, and guess what? You should know it by now.
She hangs up. She immedietly turns around, and sees..
THE SUIT GUY
SUIT GUY
Sophie Melissa Gardner?
SOPHIE
y-yes?
The suit guy PULLS OUT THE SAME HUGE GUN and points it at Sophie's head.
SOPHIE
AAH! NO!
SUIT GUY
Please, shut up!
SOPHIE
I have children! I have-
Suit guy shoots her. She looks at him, still alive. A single dot of blood appears on her forhead, a tiny bit of blood drickling down onto her face.
SOPHIE
You bastar-
The second suit guy injects her with the needle. She collapses.
SMASH TO BLACK
SMASH TO: Schoolyard.
Jamie Wynn, a 13-year old boy, sits on the steps of the schoolyard. He is talking to someone, we just don't see who.
JAMIE
You know, I always thought things would get better. They never did. Bullies got more sophisticated, teachers got more freedom with the curriculum, and things got worse, actually. I used to have friends. Well, I have one now. I'm not your typical loner kid. I do have people I talk to.
He looks around the schoolyard.
JAMIE
Just less and less as time goes on.
He glances over at the person he's talking to.
IT'S THE SUIT GUY.
JAMIE
You're not a guidance counselor.
SUIT GUY
Why would you say that?
JAMIE
Three reasons, actually. One, I've never seen you. Two, guidance counselors are too stuffy and like to talk in their office where they can cross-examine you. Not in the schoolyard. and 3, I'm just naturally jaded.
SUIT GUY
Congrats.
He pulls out his gun and shoots Jame in the stomach.
JAMIE
What the fu-
Then the suit guy practically stabs the needle into the kid's back. Jamie goes limp, tumbling down the stairs.
SLOW MOTION: Jamie's unconcious body falls down the steps, as the Suit guy stand up, hides his weapons, and looks down.
The kids begin to gather around as Jamie falls the last step and lands on the ground, eyes closed.
LITTLE GIRL
He's dead! Jamie's dead!
The suit guy stands up.
SUIT GUY
He's not dead. I'm a doctor.
Suit guy walks calmly down the steps.
FADE TO BLACK.
We hear clanging.
INT. CELL.
Maybe 15, 20 people. We see Jamie lying on his back, leg in a crutch, we see Jamie, propped up in a chair, and Sophie, a patch over her head. They are all sleeping.
Suddenly, ALL THE PEOPLE'S EYES OPEN IN A SECOND.
SMASH TO BLACK.
SOPHIE (OS)
Where the hell are we?
