Pilot Episode: "Pre-Origin"

The scene opens up in China, where there is a construction worker hammering the face of a statue. The statue looks like that of somebody who was famous in the Middle Ages, around the year 1300, better known as The Mandarin. The man is using a chisel on the statue's nose. The scene then cuts to another man, this one of African American descent. He is standing beside a cargo helicopter, helping pull boxes out, when someone from the Chinese Government comes over to him, asking questions.
Man- Mr. Rhodey, what is taking so long with the construction?
Rhodey- Look, I told you a month and a half ago, it's either Mr. Rhodes or Rhodey, not both!
Man- Yes, OK, but about the problems...
Rhodey- Look, we don't know what we're doing until we do it. I need to talk to Stark about-- What the...
Rhodey spots guns and ammunition on the helicopter near the bottom of the cargo.
Rhodey- Hang on one second.
Rhodey walks away, pulling his cell phone out. He dials a number and puts the phone up to his ear. The scene then cuts to Tony Stark. The two continue to talk and the scene cuts back and forth as the conversation continues.
Tony- This is Stark.
Rhodey- It's me, Rhodey. Why are there weapons in this cargo?
Tony- Rhodey, what are you talking about?
Rhodey- Why did you send weapons?
Tony- I didn't send weapons.
Rhodey- Well they're here.
Tony- Then you must have gone behind my back.
Rhodey- Why would I do that? The Jade Dragons are--
Tony- The Jade Dragons do not want to kill anybody, but if we bring weapons into the mix, people are going to die!
Rhodey- They're going to attack anyway. They feel that bringing these ruins back up is going revive an evil...
Tony- What evil is that?
Rhodey- The Mandarin. Supposively an evil ruler from way back, like 1500's back.
Tony- Try 1300's. The Mandarin was the name of the rulers back then, and one of them was very evil. So evil that I could see their problem with his revival.
Rhodey- Well yeah, that's what the Jade Dragons are after.
Tony- I guess I'm going to have to go there myself then.
Rhodey- You said that a week ago.
Tony- Well, this time I really mean it. I'm leaving right now.
Rhodey- Alright.
Tony hangs up and leaves the room that he was in. He is now seen walking down a hall alone.
Tony- Now it's time for something that really needs my attention.
The scene cuts to a Chinese forest. The Jade Dragons are standing a distance away from the contstruction. Li Mei is there, along with their leader.
Li- I will not take innocent lives.
Leader- Anyone involved in that project is not innocent! You will take whatever lives I tell you to take, because you follow me, and me alone!
Li- No, I only follow one.
She looks at her wrist, where there is a bracelet. The scene cuts to Stark Tower. A Quinjet is seen flying to the landing base, where Pepper Potts is seen waiting impatiently. The jet lands, and Tony Stark hops out of the passenger area. He walks to the door, where she is waiting, holding his suit coat.
Tony- Pepper dear, you look marvelous. Am I late?
Pepper- 40 minutes, and they're getting impatient.
Tony- That's nice, I don't care. I think we're going to take things casual today.
He walks off, not even taking the coat, into the room, where Tony's father is seen with many of Stark Enterprises' lawyers.
Lawyer- You're late.
Tony- Yeah, whatever. What's the problem here?
Lawyer- Well, we think that you're holding the company back with a lack of responsibility.
Tony- What do you mean lack of responsibility? I'm the one holding the place together.
Lawyer- Really? What about your dig in China that's costing us 200,000,000 dollars and counting?!
Tony- What about it?
Lawyer- Well the problem isn't that you're doing it, the problem is that you're doing it for free!
Tony- If you must know, the Chinese goverment is so greatful for us doing this that they've offered us contracts for millions, and I mean millions of dollars. Even you would be impressed with this stuff.
Tony pulls the contracts out of his briefcase.
Tony- I think you guys may be impressed.
He throws the contracts onto the table.
Lawyer- Look, we're gonna have to let you go, Tony.
Tony- Dad! Do something!
Tony's father, regretting the whole situation, sits in his seat.
Howard- All in favor?
All of the lawyers raise their hands.
Tony- You want my father to drive this company on his own? Because he will. Right into the ground!
Tony leaves the room abruptly, not awaiting a response from anyone.
Lawyer- You've made the right choice.
Howard- Shut up.

The screen lights up, showing a man, fairly muscular, a shotgun in his hand.
Man: I am a hit man, and I take only the 'righteous' hits.
He puts it down and the screen fades to black.
Cut to a picture of Hitler
Man: One time, I got caught.
Cut to a swastika
Man: And it was my job to stop one of the most dangerous men ever.
Fade to black
Man: And like an idiot, I accepted the job

The scene cuts back to China, where there is a Quinjet hovering above a launchpad. It lands, and Tony Stark hops out. There, he is escorted to a very large tank that he is seated inside of.
Tony- Wow, I'm getting too much protection for my comfort, and you guys are really bugging me.
Guard- Sir, it's for your safety.
Tony- Whatever.
Tony sits and the tank starts going. Two other tanks are right behind it, making sure that nothing will be attacking the tank with Stark inside of it. They start driving into a town, following the street. They eventually get to a spot in the street where there is a tractor trailer taking up the entire width of the road. The tanks stop, and they sit there for a second. The scene cuts into the tank, where the driver looks back.
Driver- Mr. Stark, there is a truck blocking the way.
Tony gets up, walking to where they see from the tank from.
Tony- I don't see what the problem is, just detour around it for God's sake.
Tony goes back to his seat, and the driver turns at the intersection, driving on a different street in order to get past the large truck. The scene cuts to a driver in the truck, smiling. The scene then cuts to the building site in China. Rhodey is there, something that looks like a detonator is in his hand.
Rhodey- Well, ladies and gents, I have this finished. When I push this--
He points to the lever.
Rhodey- There will be liquid steal, building up in the foundation of the ruins.
He pushes the button.
Rhodey- The steel hardens quickly, and more pours up above it.
The scene shows this happening as it happens, showing what exactly is going on.
Rhodey- When all of the foundation is full, your ancient city will eventually be back up to ground level.
The scene cuts to an open field in the distance where the ruins are raised up. When they are exactly at ground level, they stop, just as Rhodey said would happen. He stands there with a satisfied smile on his face. Out of nowhere, there is an explosion, and Rhodey dives out of the way. He falls on his face, and the screen goes black. When he wakes up, he's in a cave.
Rhodey- What the--
Rhodey looks around.
Rhodey- Wait a second... Where am I at?
Jade Dragon Leader- You are in our captivity now, American. Why you've decided to revive the ancient ruins is beyond me, but you will pay for it.
Rhodey- Wha--
The Jade Dragon leader walks out of the shadows, now seen. The scene cuts to Tony Stark now.
Tony- God... This trip is taking so long.
Driver- Mr. Stark, we're almost there.
Tony- Good.
Tony's cell phone rings.
Tony- Hello? He what? Alright, we're on our way.
Tony hangs up his phone and puts it back into his pocket.
Driver- What was that?
Tony- Construction. They've been attacked at the site and Rhodey's disappeared.
The driver sighs and starts going faster. A mine explodes and the scene fades to black.
