Could I suggest that Bridges in Paradise be the next Film of the Week for discussion?

Sure; that'd be a good one to do. One thing that I thought stood out was how much attention to this film Indy put on the characters. Whether or not you agree on the quality of the film, there is no denying that the characters wasthe main attraction, and ambition, of this film. From the hard, sarcastic Rick, to the sad, regretful; Rick at the end- there is development there. Very blatent, and hit quite hard, but more noticable that way. The story was typical of indy, but did feel more fresh this time around, at least, as refreshing enough to make me call this the best of his "action-CIA-police" movies (I know this does not fit in all "that" much). I think, mostly, this is because it has alot more drama then it does action. Really, there is more talking and more dramastic tension then any real shootout (except the end). Maybe it is even a drama film, overall. In this, it as improved since "FI", a great deal, actually, as there is something of a direction for the plot to follow. The dialogue seeed to range from witty to more generic action language, but I tell you what- I would love to see a revised and reworked draft of this film because, as it may not be Indy's best, it certainly is the one where, with work, it can show a greater range of improvement. I will type alot more later with specifics that can be changed, but does anyone else want to add?

Though I can say off the bat, that one thing I would have liked to see would have been is either a more heavy, suspenseful subplot. The film did good to cut out all the filler drama, as I think it should stick clear to the tension, really have every scene act as a boiling pot- whistling louder and louder until the end- Maybe another layer would have built some true suspense. Not as so far as a "who-done-it", but something of a thriller.

i was very impressed with the way indy rebounded from fighting irish with this. i've been waiting to see indy put the same effort into his film work as we've seen he can do with his tv stuff.
i was pleased to see more of a focus on characters. often they seem generic in indy's films and you could easily take on from one movie and slot it into another one of indy's and it wouldn't effect almost a single thing.
here the character of rick was well developed, had clear motivations and feelings. with the toned down action and more of a focus on drama, the characters were giving a chance to breath and they come off all the better.
i'm in agreement with you casa about the dialouge. at times it was very solid, at others it seemed to slip back into the generic, over use of the F word indy type dialouge we've come to know and loathe. with a little more work and a few revisions indy could really make this a great film.
