Please do not read if you have not yet seen the film as it is very disrespectful towards the writer.
SPOILERS.
In the freezing month of February, not much of it was a good month. Single on Valentine's Day is quite a drag but this isn't about my personal life so back on target. I got an exciting personal message from non other than the Comic Shop writer, Xplay. The title "Halloween 3", I knew he wanted to write it so I got a little excited as I tend to love both Comic Shop films. Within this pm, he kindly asked if he may be able to "sequelize my masterpiece of a horror film", of course, I said yes with great excitement to see where he would take the characters of Halloween-land.
A month and some odd days later, I was greeting with an advance screening of "Taylor Betz's Halloween 3" in a three part pm. So, immediately, I started reading. I was quite pleased with the first pages. Laurie was now partially healed, by the help of her shady phyciatrist Dr. Allen Gordon. Overall, I liked the script. It was fun and had fun characters. But one thing, this did NOT feel like a Halloween film. It was odd. I liked the whole thing with Sheriff Leone's Mexican tribe, and the explination of the devil choosing Michael to use as himself. I did feelhowever, that the main story was very rushed into. We didn't really get enough time to feel sorry for Laurie, or have any alone moments with just her to feel for her character, which was a minus. Whenever Laurie was on the screen, she was usually surrounded by others, never alone which was REALLY different to my Halloween 2, and Bucks' Halloween as we had Laurie alone a lot. One goof on the Laurie character, she went to Haddonfield High before the murders, but then took a leave of absence to focus on her life, and get it into order. Just some things you gotta look over in films, as it's a natural part of them. There were mistakes in my Halloween 2, and mistakes in every single Halloween film, it's inevidable to miss.
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the Dr. Allen Gordon character. he really had some great, and smart dialouge. I loved how he analyzed everyone, and was just a COMPLETE PRICK. It was great. The "Jamie" and "Jamiee" characters were typical horror whores, but the movie wasn't about them so they didn't have to be anything special. They were fun though, as was their other friend Jamie. One thing I will STRESS, MICHAEL SHOULD BE THE ONLY ONE KILLING IN A HALLOWEEN FILM. But, I can look past it to see your vision of Halloween, and respect it, and I do. So, in this case, I kinda thought it was cool how bad fucking ass Leone is. There was some random blabber throughout that didn't really have anything to do with anything, but they fit in with the characters so,it was doable. I didn't like how Michael just popped out of nowhere, and killed the trucker. It was random and out of no where. Some of the kills were really uninspired, and did nothing to move the plot forward. I always like in a Halloween film when his return is dreaded upon, and the town is in a scramble to keep him in high max security while he is alive, not in a morgue for 5/6 months. Not the first movie to have a poopsy, won't be the last.
Another like of mine with this film, is how you really connected the Laurie/Michael relationship which I started to expand upon at the end of Halloween 2. With the hallucinations that Laurie was having, one thing in particular that I loved was the "RED ROVER, RED OVER SEND LAURIE OVER THE FUCKING EDGE". I thought that was a really great scene. It reminded me a lot of a hallucination from a Rob Zombie Halloween, which is a REALLY great thing to me. I also enjoyed how Luarie talked to herself, which kind of showed me that she was, as Gordon said, a "nutter".
The Jamie and Ben sex scene actually made me laugh out loud with the WALL-E lines, and I really did like those characters after a little bit. Michael's reaturn was a little bland, but the jaw death was shocking. I liked how Michael is just a presence that everyone is scared to see.I really didn't get into how the movie was kill after kill once Michael arrived at the party, reminded me of a Friday the 13th movie, and not one chase scene . BUT, the rape of Laurie ABSOLUTELY broke my heart. For a character that I also took a part in shaping up, it broke my heart to see what happened to her in that scene. It was wonderfully emotional to me, and I thank you for making me actually able to be emotional while reading a script. It shocked me, and disgusted me and I couldn't wait for Wesley to bite it.
The whole ending sequence with the snow was weird, but I like weird. I didn't like how Leone snapped Mike's finger off as Mikey is put out to be the most powerfull force in the world. The devil voices at the end were A LITTLE too weird for me, but it was original for a Halloween movie.
But, the ending. WHY? WHY? Did Michael have to talk, and why did the movie shift away from Laurie and become about Sheriff Leone and Gordon? I liked them, but Luarie got a shitty send off, and to me, should have been killed my Mike. You film, my review I guess.
Overall, It was good. VERY RUSHED, and a little unbelievable, I ALSo really don't understand why there was a Halloween party in April? Overall, out of a 100, I would rate it a 65. A good sequel, but it was rushed, and just not like a Halloween film. I did like most aspects of it though, with Laurie's whole psyche and saving her brother was really great and played into the "FAMILY IS FOREVER" tone I set in my film. It was an enjoyable film in the end, and I did like Michael surviving in the end, which way REALLY different to every Halloween film before. Also, I loved Leone coming back for blood at the endd, really BADASS haha. Thanks for the great entertainment, Xplay, I really enjoyed it .
