So, I don't have much time bare in mind, but here's a Sundance review. A flick I think everyone should see.
So, Sundance to my knowledge was meant to have 6 different shorts by 6 different writers but here it has 3. I guess people got busy or something, presumably someone died and couldn't finish their bit but whatever, it's still got more then 1 short which is good.
The first is my larah, who I've come to learn by now is really gay. But in a good way. I found her short interesting in that it's the only one to feature homosexual characters, which is something that never occured to me until recently: most multi-plot romance flicks (New York I Love You, Valentine's Day) are generally just white straight couples. So, it's interesting in that aspect.
The short itself is pretty solid, it's easily the shortest of the three and was a nice way to open the flick. It's just a few short scenes linked together between two "down on their luck" characters, who get "up on their luck" if you catch my drift. Has some nice moments, overall it's sweet.
Next it Jester's and damn, is it something. Jester is the only short to be filmed and I love his camera work. There's a very glossy, not "shot for TV" but not "shot for screen" look to it, it's clearly shot like a short in an anthology bit. It's got a creepy vibe to it, but works well for it's romantic bits.
After that gem is Daz's. This man can write, it was the longest of the shorts and is the last, which makes sense. His characters do feel very much like two characters from indie flicks, but regardless they're both characters I felt really existed. It does deal with some issues that I never quite undestood (the bloke's alcohol problems didn't get clear enough for me, but that might be because I'm a dumbass).
It doesn't have alot of "dead space", but the flick has silent moments (I know, it's a script but still) that are actually really sweet and build up on this attarction the characters have, nice work.
Overall, it's so strange to see one of these multi-story romance films to be so well balanced. It just got better as it went, didn't last too long but had an impact on me. The shorts were very diverse actually, so I never felt like I was reading the same thing twice and all of the characters were interesting.
It's a really solid flick, and I highly suggest you check it out.
