Fade in on the NASA Space Center. We hear Scott Scythe (Bale’s character) narrating.
SCYTHE: (voice over) Space travel has been a history of Firsts.
Show a Russian spacecraft launching. Text: 1961.
SCYTHE: (voice over) Yuri Gagarin, first man is space.
Show an American spacecraft shooting past the camera with earth’s horizon in space in the background. Text: 1962
SCYTHE: (voice over) John Glenn, first American astronaut to fully orbit the earth.
Show Neil Armstrong’s famous walk on the moon. Text: 1969.
SCYTHE: (voice over) Neil Armstrong, first man to set foot on earth’s moon.
Show a press conference where the main characters (Scythe, McClellan, Sanford) are posing for photographs and answering questions.
SCYTHE: (voice over) And me? My dream is simple.
Show a futuristic-looking space shuttle leaving earth’s atmosphere and detaching its rockets.
SCYTHE: I want to become the first man to commit a murder in space.
Several quick shots followed by a drumbeat: the shuttle reaching Mars, an explosion in a part of the space station, a shot from outside the space station showing the evacuation of the station.
Cut to Todd McClellan (Smith’s character) waking up in the cargo hold.
MCCLELLAN: Where am I?
The intensity of the music increases. Show McClellan facing Scythe.
SCYTHE: The rules are simple. My obligation is to kill you, and yours is too try to stop me.
Cut to Scythe attacking Todd with a pipe he’s wielding like a club.
Cut to down on the planet. Capt. Sanford (Jodie Foster’s character) is meeting with her officers.
SANFORD: The crew is planning to revolt! There isn’t enough food for all of us.
Cut back to Scythe and Todd.
TODD: You fool! You’ve damaged the oxygen tanks!
SCYTHE: We have two days. We’d better get started!
Music intensity increases again. Several quick shots follow.
