SCF Films: Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for tuning in for this exclusive scene from House of Dracula. Before we roll the footage, let me give you some background about the film and the scene itself. House of Dracula is the final installment in Sam Miller's tragic life thus far, and the whole thing culminates in the House of Dracula, which is essentially a castle deep in the Balkan Mountains. I can't give too much away, but this scene is with the gypsies, and introduces the Devil's Servants, led by Thomas Forsythe, who is played by the wonderful Hugo Weaving. So without further adieu, here is your exclusive scene.
(The camera fades out to a shot of Sam asleep in his tent. A noise can be heard in the background, which sounds like an explosion. Sam jolts up, and looks out of his tent. What he sees is a band of marauders on horseback, riding around with torches and rifles, lighting the camp on fire. They fire at the gypsies, and already some of the troupe is dead. Miller puts a shirt on, and his shoes, and rushes outside. A man on horseback tries to attack him, but Sam grabs his rifle, and pulls him off his horse. Miller takes the gun, and shoots the man. Sam sees Maleva heading into the mountains, seemingly invisible. Another of the marauders takes a shot at Sam, and hits him in the chest, but alas, Miller is invincible. Sam runs up to the man, and tackles him off of his horse. Sam punches the man in the face, and unsheathes the dagger that he has. Another man tries to attack him, but Miller stabs him in the chest with the knife, before fluidly pulling it out. The man he knocked off the horse tries to run, but Sam hurls the dagger into his back. Miller starts running, and sees Bela in a struggle with a marauder. Sam tackles the man, and helps Bela regroup.)
Bela: WE MUST GO! FOLLOW ME!
(Bela grabs Sam’s right arm, and leads him through the flaming camp. A piece of flaming wood detaches from a wagon, and falls in front of Sam and Bela, but they move out of the way, avoiding impact. Bela finds a passage into the mountains, and urges Sam to follow him. Both men sprint into the mountains as the scene fades away. The last shot we see is of the entire camp, in flames.)
(The camera cuts to a mountain side, which is very rocky. We ban around the mountain, and find Sam and Bela walking up a seemingly deserted path. Sam seems tired, and stops to sit for a moment. Bela notices this, and stops, waiting for him.)
Bela: We should rest. It has been a very trying path so far.
Sam: Who were those men last night?
(A saddened look grows on Bela’s weathered face as he begins to speak to Sam.)
Bela: Those were the raiders. We call them the Devil’s Servants.
Sam: Where was Forsythe? I didn’t see him.
Bela: Neither did I. It has been told that he leads the raids personally, but I expect he wouldn’t waste his time.
Sam: I saw Maleva getting away. I think she was able to leave quietly enough that none of the men saw her.
Bela: Let us hope. Forsythe is very cruel, and malicious. But he is very intelligent. We must hope that he is not on our trail.
Sam: Do you know why he came last night? Surely he must be looking for something, he couldn’t have just stumbled on your camp, especially with such a well armed force that he had.
Bela: I do not know. Come, we must continue. His tower is still far. And we cannot risk Forsythe gaining on us.
(Bela extends his hand to Sam, and helps him to his feet. Without a word, both men continue their trek up the mountain side.)
