Where Were We?
Episode:”First Impressions”
Starring:
Jorma Taccone as Rick
Ashley Tisdale as Emily
Sarah Gadon as Erica
Andrea Bowen as Sophie
Ricky Ullman as Ben
----------------
Previously on “Where Were We?”:
Rick
Ooh. I have a friend request.
Ben
Is she hot?
Rick
It’s from Emily Gold. “Hey Rick! It’s your old pal Emily! Gosh, we haven’t hung out in like seven years! I saw that we’re attending the same college in the spring! I can’t wait to see you again! I’ve got a surprise for you!”
Erica
It’s been a while since we had one of our…you know…Rick & Erica Nights. What’s the point of being friends with benefits if we’re never going to reap the benefits?
(Cut to Erica’s bedroom as the two lay on the bed in a spooning/post-coital position.)
Erica
I think the two of us should just find a nice, cheap cabin deep in the mountains and have a nice long weekend. How does that sound?
Rick
I think it’s too soon for me commit to anything like that.
Erica
Tell me one thing, and answer this honestly. Does your apprehension have anything to do with your old friend coming back to town?
(Rick is awoken by the sound of relentless knocking on his door. He trudges to the door and opens it. A pretty blonde girl turns around and extends her hand as if to shake his hand.)
Emily
Good morning, sir! My name’s Emily Gold and I just moved in down the road.
Cut to Black.
Themesong
(Fade in from black. Rick is standing at the front door, with Emily still on the porch.)
Rick
(Lets out a burst of excited laughter)
Oh my god!
(They hug and he brings her inside.)
Rick
How are you?
Emily
Oh you know. Same ol’ same old. How ‘bout you?
Rick
Pretty much the same. I can’t believe you’re here. It’s been so long. I wasn’t expecting to see you until school started.
Emily
Well, surprise!
Rick
Wow…I’m just so…I’m speechless really.
Emily
I know!
Rick
It’s good to see you.
Emily
You too.
(Begins to talk frantically)
I felt so bad for all those years that we had lost contact. We just moved around a couple times and phone numbers are changing and...whatever.
(Takes a deep breath)
I’m just glad you’re not yelling at me.
Rick
I don’t think I could. Ever. So where are you living now?
Emily
Oh, I just moved into the apartment complex down the road. I didn’t think I’d like living in a dorm so I started looking for apartments. You see, I was actually kinda hoping that my old house next door had been turned into one of those boarding houses or something and I could move back into my old room. I’d have to pay rent this time around, but you know. Anyways, no such luck. Some happy little family lives there now. They put up a picket fence!
Rick
(jokingly)
Yeah, those bastards.
Emily
So I guess that apartment’s the closest we’re going to get to being neighbors again.
Rick
Looks that way.
Emily
How about you? Are you living on campus?
Rick
No. I’m just staying here and commuting.
Emily
Awesome! Now I can visit all the time, just like the good ol’ days. And we can carpool!
(Rick begins to laugh and agree, but there’s another knock on the door. He opens to find Sophie’s smiling face.)
Rick
Good morning.
Sophie
More like good late-afternoon.
(Notices Rick’s bed-head)
Did you just wake up? Jeez, no wonder I couldn’t get a hold of you! I tried calling Erica as well, but I think her phone was turned off. You two sleepy heads are missing out on half your summer vacation.
(Notices Emily)
Oh hi! I’m Sophie!
(They shake hands)
Emily
I’m Emily.
Sophie
Oh! You’re Emily? It’s so nice to meet you! I’ve heard so much about you.
Emily
Really?
(Rick looks embarrassed and shrugs)
Sophie
Well this is a nice surprise. I was just coming over to tell Rick that I want to cook dinner tonight for him and our friends Erica and Ben. You’ll love them! You should definitely come! I just found this new recipe and I really want to try it out.
Emily
Oh, well, that sounds great!
Sophie
You didn’t have other plans tonight did you Rick?
Rick
Not that I know of.
Sophie
Great. I’ll see you two at 7:30.
(Turns to leave, but remembers something and heads back)
Oh, and you know I wouldn’t want to make a scene of it tonight, but could you make sure that Benjamin understands that if he tries to sneak some alcohol into my house again, I will put my self defense training to use. And that class focused on abusing the crotch. So make sure he knows that. See ya!
(Smiles and leaves.)
(Rick and Emily exchange a look of surprise)
Rick
Wow. Well, that’s Sophie.
Emily
Seems nice. I’ve just got to remember to stay on her good side.
Rick
Heh. Yeah.
Emily
Well, I guess I better get going. Do you want me to just meet you here beforehand?
Rick
Yeah. Quarter after seven should be fine.
Emily
Alright. Bye bye!
(Cut to Sophie’s house later in the evening, where Erica and Sophie are getting things ready in the kitchen. Ben walks in.)
Sophie
Hey! Stop right there. Turn around. Up against the wall.
(She frisks him.)
Ben
Now, I’m not one to complain about a pretty girl rubbing my leg-
(She punches him in the calf)
Ah! Is this really necessary? It was one mistake.
Sophie
Maybe you should have thought of that before you puked on the crucifixion.
(She stands up and goes to set the table.)
Erica
So where are you hiding it?
Ben
It’s in the car.
(He smiles, very proud of himself. Erica gives him a very sarcastic thumbs-up. They head into the dining room where Sophie is.)
Ben
Whoa! There’s five places set here. Ooh! Is your sister joining us Sophie?
Sophie
She’s 15 Ben! Stop hitting on her! But no, she went to the movies with my parents. Rick’s friend Emily is coming.
Erica
Emily?
Sophie
Yeah. You know, that girl he grew up with.
Erica
I know who she is! But…none of us actually know her. I mean, won’t that be awkward? Plus Ben hates meeting new people.
Ben
Actually, that depends on how hot she is.
Sophie
Well, I went to tell Rick about the dinner this afternoon and she was visiting him. It would’ve been rude of me not to invite her. Plus, she seems very nice. And Ben, she is a very pretty girl, so you’ll be fine.
(Rick and Emily walk in)
Emily
You didn’t even knock!
Rick
She’s got an open door policy. Hey guys.
Sophie/Erica
Hello.
(Ben walks over to Emily)
Ben
Why hello there, Miss. My name’s Ben. You can call me Ben, Bennyboy, Ben-O, Captain Ben-
Erica
Or douchebag. That’s what I like to call him. Hi, I’m Erica.
Emily
I’m Emily. It’s nice to meet you.
Sophie
Okay, everything’s about ready. Let’s head into the dining room.
(Sophie/Rick/Emily walk out. Ben watches them go and Erica turns to him)
Erica
Bennyboy? Ben-O? Captain Ben?
Ben
I’ve failed myself. She was hotter than I expected. Sophie did her no justice whatsoever.
(He sprints to the door)
Erica
Where are you going?
Ben
I’ll be right back. I need to loosen up a little. Stall Sophie for me, ‘kay dollface?
(He runs to his car. Erica looks appalled and then heads into the dining room.)
Sophie
Where’s Ben?
Erica
He forgot something in his car. Make sure you question him about that when he comes back in.
Emily
Mmmm. Everything looks so good!
Sophie
Thank you! Wait until you try Erica’s dessert.
Emily
Oh, Erica! I saw this prom picture back here.
(She points to a picture that is on a book shelf by the table of Erica/Sophie/Rick/Ben at prom)
Your dress is amazing! You look so beautiful!
Erica
Oh…thanks-
(Ben comes back, with Sophie standing right by the door)
Sophie
What’d you forget?
Ben
Forgot?....Oh…I forgot…my cell phone! You never know when an emergency might arise. I should check my voicemail just to be safe.
(He holds his phone up to his ear and then scurries off to the dining room. Erica smirks and he slowly mouths the words “You bitch!”)
(Cut to after everyone has finished eating, and they’re placing their plates and utensils in the sink)
Emily
Everything was excellent. Thank you so much! Erica, do you mind if I swipe some of that dessert? That’d make a great midnight snack.
Erica
Sure thing.
Sophie
You guys wanna go pick a movie? I can take care of things out here.
Ben
Come now Emily. Let’s go see if we can’t uncover a PG-13 movie in Sophie’s sheltered collection.
(They walk out.)
Rick
I probably shouldn’t leave him alone with her, should I?
Erica
Actually, you should go sit back and enjoy the bumbling train wreck that is about to ensue.
(He leaves. Erica makes sure everyone’s out of hearing distance.)
Erica
So…how ‘bout that Emily?
Sophie
I like her. I hope she hangs out with us more often.
Erica
Really?
Sophie
Well yeah. She’s great. She’s sweet, funny, and has the power to make Ben tremble like a twelve year old boy. I should get her to teach my sister a thing or two.
Erica
Well yeah…but…I dunno. Maybe it just takes me a while to warm up to some people.
Sophie
I don’t think you have anything to worry about.
Erica
Worry? Who said I was worried about anything?
Sophie
Rick showed you just as much attention at dinner as he did her. She’s not going to replace you. I promise. Rick’s just catching up with an old friend. And since she’ll be going to college with us, I’m going to guess that she’ll be around for the long haul. So I suggest you give her a chance and stop pouting. You’re not as fun when you’re sulking.
Erica
(Grins)
You’re right. Thanks.
(She walks into the living room. Rick and Emily are looking through Sophie’s movies.)
Rick
Hey.
Erica
Hey. Where’s Ben?
Rick
He looked flustered and then I think he went out to his car.
(Erica sighs and shakes her head. She goes outside to see Ben leaning against his car.)
Ben
What’s Sophie doing?
Erica
Still cleaning dishes.
Ben
Good. So I’ve still got time to unwind out here.
Erica
You really think that’ll help your chances?
Ben
Probably not. She seems pretty sold on Rick in there.
Erica
I think they’re just friends.
Ben
(Shrugs)
Wouldn’t be so sure.
(Erica turns so that she can see Rick/Emily through the living room window joking and laughing. Cue "Sign on the Window" by Bob Dylan , which plays for the remainder of the episode. She looks back to Ben, about to take another swig.)
Erica
It’s nice to share, Bennyboy.
(Ben looks surprised and puzzled.)
Erica
I’m going to need something to help me get through this lame kid’s movie we’re about to watch. Am I right?
(Ben laughs and hands her the flask. She takes a huge gulp.)
Erica
Whoa…Wow. That packed a punch to it!
(Ben laughs and takes another sip.)

Rick
Well, we had to do some serious searching, since this little ditty was hidden behind most of the others, but I present to you the movie we’ll be watching. Drum roll please.
(Emily drums on her legs.)
Rick
Ocean’s Eleven!
(Erica and Ben laugh and applaud in approval.)
Erica
Wow. Yes!
Sophie
So what are we watching?
(Rick shows her the DVD.)
Sophie
(Sigh)
Alright.
(Cut to a crane shot that is looking through the window from the outside, and pulls back slowly.)
Rick
Why would you try to hide something like this from us?
Erica
Because it’s the most hardcore movie she owns!
Sophie
Alright guys. Alright. Just watch it without teasing me.
Ben
Wait. This is the good one, right?
(Fade to black. Music fades as well. Roll end credits.)
