Whoa…what a grim episode, this was. At the same time, though, what a perfect episode to get me in the groove of things. I have not watched much Point lately, because I am caught up now, and must wait. Did this wait affect how great fun the show was? Am I any less hooked? Heck no. I highly recommend this show for sheer excitement, to everyone. As for this one, however, I really liked C.O’s storyline with Tanner in this. I thought it was thrilling and well done, with having her escape be later on, and not so early. And then, the eerie scene at the end made it all go together so nicely. Wait to C.O. finds out what Harding really did. Derek was left out a bit, and, not as much, Alex too. This was good, though, as I was really hoping the attention would be focused onto C.O.; even if it will be a longer wait until we find out who he is. The best scene is either the end, or just any scene with C.O. I hate saying his name so much, but I do love him! But, like any great episode, this sets up the things for a huge climax, and I absolutely cannot wait for the next one (tomorrow). This show is pretty darn addicting.

2x03– “Duel”
This episode started strongly with both sides of the fence talking strategy and coming to the same conclusion; they need to go after Tanner’s snitch and tie up some loose ends. I like the commanding role Alex took, in that she wasn’t about to sit around and wait for Tanner to get killed and decided to leap into action. I would still like to see Alex bumping heads with Derek and his team, creating some drama amongst them as Alex breaks “the rules” to get the job done. That’s Alex’s persona to a tee and Derek and his group seem a little more “in control” play by the rules types. Also I think Alex clashing a little more with say Sophie or Wells will help to give them some kind of personality above the cardboard cut out types they are now.
The introduction of Dave to torture Tanner was interesting. The torture scene itself was fairly standard but it certainly got Tanner some hardcore points for standing up to it and not revealing anything right off the bat.
I like the idea of C.O using Harding to find Li, the missing Bank Heist-er. I like Harding’s continued development as he finds himself between a rock and a hard place. I especially liked his little moment where he considered helping Tanner as she was being tortured. I like how organised C.O is, trying to tie up everything so nothing can really come back to him. I felt Johnson was a fairly weak villain in Season 1 and was too easily fooled. C.O seems to be much stronger and that’s fine by me.
The scene in which C.O revealed to Clyde that he was aware of Derek and Derek’s team was an interesting one. The dialogue was extremely well written, making C.O extremely politely whilst having threatening under tones which worked extremely well. I like that C.O keeps talking about the group he’s a part of, and Clyde and Johnson are also a part of. It’s all very interesting and mysterious and with Derek now being looked into by Clyde and C.O, I can’t wait to see where it develops
I’ve been waiting for a scene between the new characters that doesn’t involve Derek or Alex or any of the Season 1 Regulars. So It was nice to see the scene with Wells and Clare. For some reason Wells reminds me of Topher from Dollhouse. I understand the need for exposition dialogue, explaining the information from the Safety Deposit Box in the back heist has a code, but it also kind of showed up Clare. She didn’t realize it was in code; Wells knew but can’t interpret it. Clare felt so out of the loop which doesn’t say much for the organization in Derek’s group. I did however like how connected to Season 1 you’re making Season. It’s not just “new mystery, new setting”. People like Gerard Sloume who died in the opening episodes of Season 1 continue to play important roles in this ongoing mystery. Good work.
Tanner’s short lived escape was well done. I enjoyed her little interplay with Dave and the quip about the electrocution. C.O’s “sorry” after shooting Tanner just makes him all the cooler, and I’ve really been enjoying his development so far. I also liked the way C.O assumed that nobody knew where Tanner was. He’s been so organised, tying up loose ends so far this season that he has every right to make this assumption; It makes the heroes look more competent that they were able to find out and are ready to ride in like the cavalry and C.O’s not expecting it at all.
Overall, apart from a few pretty dull characters lurking in the background, Point Season 2 has been a huge step up from Season 1’s disappointing closure. The bank heist seemed a little uneven at times but this Season thus far has been extremely focused. I liked that you set a goal for this episode in finding the man Tanner had inside Johnson’s organisation but it lacked follow through in this episode which is a shame. But I’m sure it’ll be followed up on in future episodes. C.O continues to be the stand out character of the Season so far with Alex not far behind. I would perhaps like to see a little more of her interacting with the new group (I.e – Sophie, Clare, Wells) but nevertheless, a decent episode here.
Score: 7.5/10
