Dick Tracy
Very cheesy film. But I guess that should be expected from Dick Tracy. Sometimes, though, I think it got too cheesy for its own good. The end is exhilirating however when Caprice and Dick Tracy have their final showdown. That was my favorite scene in the movie. The film overall had too much of a cheesy factor though. It had me shaking my head many times while I was reading it. It reminded me of a Raimi film (especially with Bruce Campbell in the lead), except not as good. A mediocre film with a few entertaining moments. I give it 1.5 out of 4.
Bridges in Paradise
Pretty interesting film about how misguided idealism can result in streets of blood. I liked it. The majority of the films I write are about how people change when they're exposed to the stark grim hypocritical merciless reality of the situation. This film illustrated such a change rather well. I enjoyed the stand-off between King and Rick. It was very intense and very effective. Overall, Indy, I think you did a good job and I look forward to your next film. I give it 2.5 out of 4.
The Coming: Book 1
The first half of this film reminded me of District 9. A UFO, nobody knowing where it came from, curious government etc. Then it got Terminator-esque with the whole prophecy baby's gonna save the world element. I think a lot of the elements in this film were borrowed from other works...which isn't always a bad thing. There were also sparks of originality in the film that livened it up a bit. I will watch The Coming: Book 2. I give it 2 out of 4.
Days of Concord
Quite a good film. I enjoyed the crisp dialogue and the development of the characters found within. It was an involving movie that stayed fresh throughout. Thomas Rutherford was an interesting character and so were Suzy and the Clerk. Thomas' mental state in the wake of the divorce was a nice development, one I was unsure of at first but became accustomed to as the film wore on. Days of Concord was likely the greatest pure drama I've seen on MR. I give it 3 out of 4.
Jungles of Change
Very interesting idea. Due to length, however, I cannot give it a rating out of 4. Let's just say that it would be a very compelling and thought-provoking commercial.
Ufology
Best film of the ones I've reviewed, slightly surpassing Days of Concord. With great dialogue, engaging thematic elements, and quite a few twists, Ufology is one of the best films I've read on Movie Reels. This is not really the genre of film that I'm inclined towards, but a good story is a good story regardless of genre and Blags has proved that with this film. The main character was someone you could relate to and his relationship with the supporting characters and the Ufology cult was riveting, if a bit cheapened by the end. The hit-and-run was an intriguing plot point as well. All in all, I give it 3.5 out of 4.
