Yesterday, I purchased a ticket to SCF's highly anticipated film entitled, 'Frankenstein'. I was pretty surprised and excited that it had come out earlier than the expected release date so I decided that I would read the entire screenplay today and I'm certainly glad that I did.
SCF's vision not only stays true to the original 1931 film but with his own added elements of new scenes, suspense & style it just tied everything together so perfectly which made for a solid story through and through.
It took me roughly an hour & 30 minutes to read Frankenstein and it was really worth the time & effort. SCF's writing in this film is well done and there is never a point in this film where you feel scenes or dialogue are being dragged to a point where you feel the need to stop reading. And that's because I would argue the exact opposite.
I will be judging this film under 5 categories. Those categories are as follows: Genre, Dialogue, Characters, Fun Reading & Overall Grade.
Genre: Horror, Thriller, Suspense, Action -- however, you want to look at it...all of these genres seemed to be meshed together and the result is what you have in this screenplay. Definitely a great combination. A+
Dialogue: All of the speaking parts in this film were wonderful. For a film based around the late 19th century -- everything was done right. The dialogue in Frankenstein certainly gave meaning to each and every character in the film which to me is the most important thing in a screenplay...because without it characters would be dull & boring. Perfect execution here. A+
Characters: Again, perfectly done. I found myself to enjoy ALL of the characters in this film...which is a rarity for me based on my prior reviews. But with the combination of good dialogue, good introductions & well executed descriptions on personal appearances & traits...each character was written into the film, just right. A+
Fun Reading: I'm not a huge fan of books -- I think this is pretty evident. So when I say I sat nearly 2 hours, actually read a film on Movie Reels, reviewed it as a positive...you'll know I'm telling you the truth when I say it's worth the time & effort to read. While, it started off a little slow...it picked up at the halfway point. A good read. A-
Overall: What else is there to say about this film? I think my rating grades speak for themselves. This film was very good. SCF is a great writer and I only expect good if not even better work from him in the near future. Definitely see this film. A
FRANKENSTEIN A OR 3.75/4.0
