Clocks Series Finale

I'm going to be gone for.....quite some time. I will be in and out very rarely (like xplay) for I'd guess a 2-6 months or so. Until I can get a computer. (I'm moving back to the States, flight leaves in less than 12 hours .

Anyway, while I'm away I will be finishing the Clocks series finale. After two seasons spanning 16 episodes, the finale two part episode will come sometime in March. It will be approximately 80-90 pages in length and will span Past/Present/and Future.

We will pick up right where we left off from the season 2 finale "The Manhattan Project" and the season 2 episode "Everything Ends". Some interesting and revealing flashbacks will also be blended in throughout the episode.

Anyway, I've incorporated just about every character in Clocks history to play some part in this last episode. From Layla Prescott to Cyrus Hearth.

And a look at a new (?) character known as Mr. Black.

While the finale is nothing but amazing from what you tell us already, and while it sounds like you have everything well under way, I am sad that you are going. I'll miss you, but have a nice flight and a nice move.

and seeing as you cancelled the documentary, and i spent all that time reading through all 16 episodes i thought i'd post the answers here so i didn't waste my time hehe.


1. Favorite episode?

“Heart of War”

I thought Heart of War was tremendously put together, it had a great flow and in my option it contained the first big reveal of the series; that being the reason behind Seth’s dislike for Abaddon.

I absolutely adored the scenes with Seth and the little girl Natalia. It was a different side to the Seth character, and the contrast between these scenes was so completely different to the rest of the episode. It worked so well and made the episode that much better.

I loved the stuff with Seth’s letter, the foreshadowing of Seth’s Clock shop, the first time Charles meets Mark and the stories of Seth and Abaddon and how they ended up in the military. There’s so much good stuff in this episode it’s impossible to mention it all.


2. Least favorite episode?

“Genesis”

Whilst there's a lot of stuff I love about this episode, in particular Seth’s talking about Abaddon and the war. As well as the stuff with Abaddon’s son, I was so into the picture thing where Sydney is in the Urn on the fire place. I thought that was tremendous and.

Also Seth finds out what the “Bible” group want him for and it was the perfect pay off to the story introduced in the pilot, and the Seth storyline running through the episode. That being said; the episode as a whole was a little Marianne centric, and to be honest, I just didn’t care for Marianne.

It’s a great episode, and the perfect follow up to the “Pilot”. But what comes after it, is even better.

I think there were two episodes in Season 2, “Revelations” and “From Russia with Love” that I liked perhaps a little less than “Genesis”. But those two worked better overall in my opinion so “Genesis” gets my pick.

3. Favorite character?

I’m a big fan of Seth. I’m not usually into main characters, don’t know why, I’ve just always had a preference for the background characters. But Seth, was a different story. He was just extremely well written, and his motivations made sense to me. He wasn’t over bearing; we weren’t forced to like him. He wasn’t portrayed as some conquering hero. He has flaws, but he’s steadfast in his decisions, and I liked that. I also liked his relationship with Rose and how that developed, as well as how badass he was in the “Heart of War” episode.

I think Eva would come a close second, with Charlotte following behind. And if that doesn’t paint a pleasant mental image, very few things will.

4. Least favorite character?

Nathan Gorman. He just had nothing to do and served no purpose in the end but to be there and deliver the odd twist line here and there; one of the only (if not the only) character in “Clocks” that was poorly handled, at least in my opinion.

5. Best Teaser?

The Pilot’s, without a doubt. There were some phenomenal teasers in Clocks; in fact if Clocks did anything consistently it was always having great teasers. But the Pilot’s teaser was so great; everything about it told us about the story to come. And it just provided that great visual of New York with no skyline.

6. Best ending?

I’m not gonna say the ending of Season ones finale because it seems like the thing everybody would pick. I’m gonna pick “The Manhattan Project’s” ending. Gorman’s confession that Charles knows who the Terrorist is, Roy’s death and Charles killing Charlotte were all beautiful and set up the finale almost to perfection. Charles killing Charlotte is one of my favourite moments in Clock’s history, if not my favourite so I have to give best ending to that episode.

7. Biggest twist/surprise?

I think Charles being alive blew everyone’s minds. I actually called Charlotte being Charle’s shooter so that was less impactful for me, but Abaddon being alive really threw me off, because I did not think Hanelle would go there. I was pleasantly surprised when she did.

8. Favorite storyline?

Anyone who doesn’t pick the plot to kill Abaddon is beyond crazy. It drove Season one and lead to a fantastic finale and the greatest moment of the series; that being Charles getting a bullet in the brain pan ... squish [Serenity reference ftw]

9. Least favorite storyline?

I think I’ve talked about this before, and Hanelle and I discussed how I would have gone about it. I’m talking about Gorman’s story in Season 2. It’s my least favourite story, simply because there is no story. He pops up here, he pops up there and delivers a twist at the end. He was never really “there” and never really had any participation in the thing. He wasn’t expanded upon enough, I think Hanelle even admitted to not planning Season 2 and as well as the first and attributing that to the reason Gorman didn’t have a solid story and why the character wasn’t handled as well as the others.

The only other story I can think of that I really disliked was Seth and Eva’s little deal. I mean Seth already had Rose, and Tommy was Seth’s friend and I just wanted a fan. If anyone was gonna throw a spanner in Rose and Seth’s relationship it should have been Natalia in my opinion.

10. Favorite scene?

The Pilot’s teaser, without a doubt. Abaddon’s speech and the visual of New York with its destroyed skyline still sticks in my mind so clearly I couldn’t give this to anything else. That one seen had me hooked straight away and anything that came after was just gravy.

11. Best death?

Charlotte’s. I actually really dug Charlotte’s character. She plays a pretty integral part in the show in the grand scheme of things, but was never part of “the group” so I think she kinda gets forgotten about. I think it all worked beautifully, Charlotte trying to go on as usual and then Charles unveiling he knew Charlotte shot him. And the way he did it was just so bad ass. I think Cyrus would probably be my second choice.

12. Worst death?

Marianne. I liked Cyrus and Roy’s death quite a bit; I also liked Charlotte’s and Lyons, so Marianne seems like the last possible choice for me. There are other characters that died, but Marianne’s seems the most insignificant to me, although when you really look at it, it really isn’t. But it was the one I didn’t really care about.

13. If you could have changed one thing, what would it have been?

There are a couple of things I would change, so I’m not gonna just list one ... and you can’t stop me.

Firstly, I would have expanded the hunt for Seth and the gang. It lasted an episode or two and then kind of fizzled out. I’d have spread it over half the season and really show Gorman leading the investigation to give him something to do. I’d then move the Terrorist stuff back a little, and start it right before Abaddon comes back.

Secondly, I’d have spread the Roy/Rose/Seth/Terrorist thing over two episodes. I think leaving Seth on the plane with Rose kidnapped and Roy on the way would have only increased the drama heading into the finale, and for my money would have been a kickass way to kick the finale off. The way it ended you had Charlotte’s death overshadowing Roy’s which is a shame because Roy was a fairly important character and him kicking the bucket should have had a larger impact on the story, the characters (Seth in particular) and the Clocksverse in general. I’d have also revealed some way that Roy was Seth’s dad; because I don’t like the idea of Seth not knowing.

14. Favorite first season episode?

I already gave my favourite episode to “Heart of War” so I’m gonna say the Pilot here. The Pilot was awesome. It was well crafted; it created a lot of intrigue around the characters, especially Charles and Seth and set up an absolutely incredible season.

15. Favorite second season episode?

“The Manhattan Project”. Almost entirely for the badass finish. There were a lot of good episodes in Season 2, just not as many great ones (especially compared to Season one). This in my opinion is one of those great ones. And the ending was just the icing on the cake.

Thanks for posting, very interesting choices I may release something similar to the documentary at a later date, because I think there were a lot of little things fans like yourself might get a kick out of. But for now, I suppose I will post my 15 as well.

**I'm going to exclude the PILOT, as it would be my answer for nearly all of them, lol

1. Favorite Episode: The Heart of War

This was, besides the pilot, the funnest Clocks episode I wrote. Really one of the funnest things I've ever written. I basically just outlined the individual scenes I wanted to incorporate into this episodes...and then just jumbled them up, lol. It was a refreshing approach to writing the show.

2. Least Favorite Episode: From Russia With Love

It's not that I disliked this episode, but I didn't feel it was at par with the rest. There were some reasons for putting it in there which will come into play in the finale, but for me it just seemed to lack something. Not sure exactly what. I knew I wanted an Eva episode, so I thought ep. 7 (parallel to season 1's ep. 7 of Tommy Lyons) was a good spot.

Favorite Character: Charles Abaddon

He is my favorite character I've written, closely with Eleanor Rigby. I have to admit I am inspired by Ben from LOST with this character. The question is always present...is he bad? If yes, how bad is he?

Least Favorite Character: Mark Kline

I liked the idea of Mark when writing the pilot, but for some reason what ended up on paper was a bit disappointing for me. I knew the love interest for Charlotte was necessary to fuel the tension between her and Charles, which really was the only purpose Mark served in Season 1. But his character was flat and not really that important.

Best Teaser: Everything Ends

It seems like this episode wasn't as well accepted as I had hoped originally. But it also makes sense, given that nearly ALL the characters were brand new and not the usual suspects everyone has read for the past 12 episodes about. But I loved the teaser for this, episode, as I thought it was something nobody would really see coming.

Best Ending:

Of course I would say the pilot. I absolutely love the twist. In that one minute of the ending to the Pilot, you learn EXACTLY what you will be getting with this show. Multiple timelines, and dramatic twists. But I guess I would go with the season 1 finale. Abaddon being shot and Marianne being killed. Two of the three main characters being eliminated I thought would be shocking and unexpected.

Biggest Twist/Suprirse:

Probably that Abaddon was still alive. I was not sure whether people would love or hate this, but it was something I had decided to do after the pilot. I knew he was going to "die" in the finale and I knew he would be coming back. One of those things that can definitely put a reader off as it sort of takes away the dramatic factor to a show if you can just bring someone back from the dead...but I thought the reasoning behind it was strong enough to go with it.

This actually makes me think of a decision/twist I will be incorporating into the finale. It's something that I think may turn off the reader, but it is what I decided on at the start of season 2. I've debated it dozens of times, but I have decided to go with my gut. I hope it turns out okay haha

Favorite Storyline:

Same as you Daz. The Abaddon/Seth conflict.

Least Favorite Storyline:

The Eva/Rose/Seth triangle. I did it for certain reasons, as I wanted Seth to have to make somewhat of a choice in season 2 when they are both in trouble. Add drama, I suppose. But I think the execution might have been off a bit.

Best Scene:

Season 1, episode 6 "The Red Herring". Really the first scene between Charles and Seth in the present. I loved the scene and the interaction and after 5 episodes they are finally standing in the same room.

Best Death:

I'm on the opposite of you Daz, as I said Marianne. I really have no strong reasons either, haha. Or maybe I'm just tired.

Worst Death:

Cyrus Hearth. My only complaint is that it seemed like I rushed it. His story didn't seem like it was finished and I think looked bad killing him off so fast.

If I could change one thing:

Well...I could No, probably the above mention. I would have developed a different way to use Hearth/expand on him.

Favorite Season 1 Episode: Heart of War. Since I said that before, definitely the Lifting of the Veil would be second.

Favorite Season 2 Episode: The Manhattan Project.

i always thought, if clocks had gone into a thrid season, it would have been awesome if the characters and stuff brought up in everything ends would play a bigger role. like instead ofr flashbacks, we do the lost thing and do flash forwards with the next generation.

i even had this idea of a split conspiracy theory going on, with charles, seth and the group comitting/trying to prevent said conspiracy, and then the next generation of characters trying to uncover it. leading to the big finale where everything falls into place, leading into the next season.

who knows, maybe one day clocks will find it's way to tv screens (where it deserves to be) and my little idea will find it's way in.
