Mitchell Judd: Private Eye - Spoiler Alert
This is my first experience reading something that Blaggers has written and I'm impressed. I didn't really know what to think going into Mitchell Judd, other than "Harriet The Guy" but after reading through, it's safe to say that BLG's has created an enjoyable world with an extremely entertaining main character.
The second Mitchell Judd was alerted that Rachel was about to enter his room, leading him to clear his desk off and replace it with more "mature" items I knew the character would be a compelling one. The plot is driven by Rachel wanting Judd to return her stolen handbag and from then on, we're taken through the daily workings of a teenage private eye. The hilarious and deluded daily workings, that is.
In my eyes, the strongest point of the script is the constant babbling and rambling of the main character who believes with all his heart that his mission in life is to rid the world of crime. Judd constantly delivers interesting lines and his love for what he "does" helps you to get behind him.
Another strong point is the back and forth interaction he has with local teenage crime lord Leroy. That being said, I wasn't a huge fan of the Leroy character itself as I thought his lines came across as a bit forced; though that could be the point of them considering how both characters seem to be up in the clouds.
Towards the end of the script, Judd comes to believe that Rachel herself is working for Leroy and there is a hilarious scene where he probes her about being addicted to crack. The "tease twist" if you will really added to the story and I love that it ended up being false. Rachel and Judd also had a fantastic interaction at the end of the script which provided the perfect ending.
I have to say, my biggest problem with this was simply that there wasn't more of it. I hope that Mitchell Judd becomes a regular fixture because I'd love to see more of the character and his goings on. A solid story, interesting characters and perfect dialogue; Mitchell Judd is without a doubt worth reading.
I have now decided to utilise star ratings, so out of 5; it gets --
