AthletiCenter
Show #3: “February 12, 2008”
George Grande - Himself
Greg Gumbel - Himself
IAmTheBatman - Special Guest
---------------------------------------
The scene opens with George Grande and Greg Gumbel sitting at their normal spot at the table, looking straight toward the camera.
George- Hello, and welcome to our latest edition of AthletiCenter. We opened up a new idea, where you can become the next guest on an interview for AthletiCenter, all by answering on a poll. This past week, IAmTheBatman was our lucky winner, and I caught him for an interview. Here’s the clip.
The scene cuts to George Grande sitting alone, looking into the camera.
George- Hello we are here with Thomas S. from Chicago, Illinois. Hello Thomas.
Thomas (IAmTheBatman) shows up on a TV, via satellite link. The words "Chicago, Illinois via Satellite Link" show under Thomas.
Thomas- Hello, George.
George- Now how do you feel about the rumors on Roger Clemen's steroid use?
Thomas- I personally believe he did not. Clemens doesn't strike me as that type of person. If he did, it was before this stuff was illegal.
George- How do you feel about the deal that Roger Clemens was at a party at Jose Canseco's house described by Brian McNamee in the Mitchell Report?
Thomas- His lawyer said he wasn't there so I'm going to have to believe it. That's all I can say on it.
George- What's your favorite baseball team?
Thomas- White Sox
George- Do you see them going to the playoffs or the world series anytime soon?
Thomas- Yes, I can see them at the playoffs.
George- Do you think the Cubs are going to go one hundred years without winning the World Series.
Thomas- Yes, I do. The Cubs are an ok team, but after their playoff run last year they aren't going anywhere.
George- Thank You that is all.
The scene then cuts back to George and Greg sitting side by side at their spot again.
George - He’s a really nice guy, and I’m glad I got to interview him.
Greg- He seems like a nice guy. I like this idea, and it’s actually a good way to keep people watching and voting. Let them win something. People always love to get something for nothing, and I guess there’s no better way. Well, onto the new news.
George- Let’s start with our poll for this week, shall we?
Greg- Sure.
George- The question this week probably appeals more to racing fans than anything. But the question is ‘Is Dale Earnhardt, Jr. better off at DEI or Hendrick Motorsports?” We’d love to hear what you all think about this, and I’m sure anyone else would also be glad to hear what our fans think, so, as soon as the polls go up, get out there and vote!
The two men sit and Greg talks next.
Greg- One of the scariest aspects of hockey kicked in the other night, and that is the slashed carotid artery of Richard Zednik who plays for the Florida Panthers.
The clip plays as Greg explains what happened.
Greg- His teammate was bumped and tripped, and watch closely now as his foot goes up in the air, and right there.
The scene stops and a circle appears around it.
Greg- Right into the throat of Richard Zednik. He did skate off of the ice alone, but passed out shortly after while being rushed to the dressing room. Lifesaving surgery was performed, and Richard is now in stable condition.
George- A very scary moment for anyone watching that game, Zednick fan or not. You can’t help but to be scared for the guy, and nobody likes to see something like that happen. Especially to their favorite players.
Greg- Also in hockey news, the Senators and Hurricanes have completed a four player trade that could possibly make both teams better. Ottawa has acquired Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore for the trade of former Hurricanes Patrick Eaves and Joe Corvo. We’re hopeful to see some upgrades on the ice for both teams, but you never know.
George- And our final talk in hockey, the Dallas Stars have beaten the Phoenix Coyotes, and have upgraded to seven straight wins for a current record of 35-20-5, the best in their division. If that tells me one thing, it’s playoffs, and possibly, I know it’s a little early to call it, but I’m calling finals, too, if not going all the way.
Greg- It is pretty early, but to each his own I guess.
The scene shows clips from the upcoming show.
George- Later on tonight, Adrian Peterson overhyped?
Greg- Also, don’t miss when Hughes scores 40 to help the Cavs overcome the Magic, only on AthletiCenter.
----------Commercial Break-----------
George Grande and Greg Gumbel are both once again, sitting in the studio.
Greg- The Cleveland Cavaliers have beat the Orlando Magic 118-110 thanks to a certain someone scoring 40 points. That’s not amazing, but it’s still pretty good.
George- Yes, Larry Hughes saved the game scoring a season-high 40 points, and LeBron was a big help scoring 29 with 10 assists to help the Cavaliers top Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic.
Greg- And not only the Dallas Stars are on a good streak. There are some basketball teams with this kind of luck. The Rockets beat the Portland Trailblazers to win seven straight games. The final score was 93-85, and there were a couple big plays, and it was a very good game.
George- A long awaited news story, I’m sure. The Miami Dolphins have cut 9 players off of their roster, including Trent Green and Marty Booker. The Dolphins signed Trent Green expecting to make the team better, and Bill Parcells has cut him off of the team, also expecting to make the team better for next season. I can’t blame him for doing anything. They hired him to turn the team around, and here it is.
Greg- I completely agree. Also cut from the team were defensive tackles Keith Traylor and Anthony Bryant.
George- A very big list of people, and we could go into it further, but… Jeff Feagles, the oldest player to ever participate in the Super Bowl has signed a two year deal with the New York Giants! I know, surprising, but then again, he’s a punter, so it’s not really surprising. He turns 42 next month, and said that he briefly considered retiring after winning the Super Bowl, as that is all that he wanted to do. The terms of the negotiation weren’t available, but he made $1 million last year, his last year on a five-year contract with the Super Bowl Champions.
Greg- That’s all that we have for you tonight, so be sure to check us out this Friday night, and we’ll probably have more for you.
The two men look into the camera as the scene fades out.
