We see the face of Sean McRoberts (Shia LaBeouf) in a dark room. Sean wears a US Marine uniform and is surrounded by other Marines. An older, British man, Patrick Lind (Pierce Brosnan), a Captain in the British Army. A large image of Frank Abbadon (Kevin Durand) is projected onto a white screen hanging from the wall. Lind paces in front of the screen, addressing the unit.
LIND You are the elite, the best at your respective functions from all of our Allied nations. You have been brought to this unit for one reason.
Lind looks at the screen with the image of Frank in a US Marine uniform holding an M16 to the head of a prisoner with a grimace on his face.
LIND Frank Abbadon-a murderer and traitor to America. He is one of the most ruthless and despicable men in the world. From what I gather, he was once the second-fastest rising Marine in the states.
MARINE Who was the first?
We see the face of Ray Patterson (Grant Bowler), meeting eyes with Lind.
We see Sean, crouched behind a half-destroyed brick wall, holding his rifle tightly to his body. Only Ray is crouched next to him.
SEAN Captain...if you don't mind me asking, what's the deal with you and this Abbadon guy?
Ray pauses and looks away.
SEAN I'm sorry, if you don't want to tell me, that's-
RAY Frank and I were in the same company, years ago. We were both two of the best young Marines that had been seen in years, and we spent a lot of time together in Iraq.
RAY I guess you could say I was the closest thing to a friend he ever had.
Enemy planes fly overhead and drop a dozen bombs on the city that Sean and Ray are outside of. They both fall to the ground to be fully protected by the wall. The explosion is massive as the entire city collapses, and the debris comes towards Sean and Ray.
We see Abbadon holding a gun to the head of Jake Faber (Michael Mantenuto), the son of the Vice-President, who is on his knees. Ray approaches him with his gun pointed at Abbadon's head, and a stand-off begins.
RAY Let him go, Frank!
JAKE Shoot him, he's just gonna kill me anyway!
Frank brutally kicks Jake in the ribs, sending him to the ground.
RAY No, he isn't! Stay calm, alright? Frank, you're not that kind of person, you're not going to murder a defenseless boy!
FRANK You know, Ray, in the five years we spent together, I thought you would have gotten to know me.
We fade to black as a gunshot is heard.
We see the President of the United States, David Garcia (Nestor Carbonell) in a military bunker. He sits at a table with a military commander.
COMMANDER Sir, did you hear me? Nuclear weapons have been deployed! We must respond!
GARCIA I will not be responsible for a nuclear war!
COMMANDER You won't be responsible, because if you don't do anything, we're all dead!
Garcia pauses with his palm on his forehead, sweating.
GARCIA Give 'em everything we got.
We see Sean looking on from a convoy in the desert as American planes fly overhead. We can barely make out missles in the distance being dropped over a large city. A mushroom cloud soon surrounds the city in the massive explosion, leveling the city completely.
WORLD WAR III
THE WAR TO END ALL WARS
COMING AUGUST 1ST TO MOVIE REELS
We see Sean slowly walking through the remains of a partially destroyed house, his rifle pointed cautiously in the air. He turns a corner of the hallway when, suddenly, he hits the floor at the sound of a long spray of bullets. One catches the side of his leg and he lays on the ground, incapacitated. As he holds his leg in pain, Frank Abbadon emerges from the darkness and stands over him, pistol in hand. He kicks away Sean's rifle and presses his pistol against his head.
FRANK Say goodbye, little boy.

And Now, Our Feature Presentation
Captain Blaggers Productions present
A Tom Blagden film
FADE TO:
EXT. SKY - NIGHT
We PAN upwards, rising through the sky, which is dark blue and full of navy, wispy clouds. In the distance, a commercial airline jet passes slowly through the sky.
CUT TO:
INT. AIRLINER CABIN - NIGHT
The cabin is almost full. Many passengers are asleep in their seats. A blonde air hostess bends down to take a drink order from a grey haired, middle aged passenger. Two children chase each other down an aisle. A fatigued looking businessman works with his laptop.
INT. AIRLINER COCKPIT - NIGHT
The pilot, JEFFERSON, sits at the plane controls in an airline uniform. He is middle aged and slightly overweight, with thinning brown hair. His face is craggy and covered in a thin film of sweat.
His co-pilot, HIGGINS, sits beside him. He is young, handsome, and black haired. He wears the same uniform as Jefferson. Higgins looks at a small screen and speaks in an Australian accent.
HIGGINS We've had a flash from the weather satellite. There's going to be slight turbulence in an hour, but we'll pass through after about twenty minutes.
JEFFERSON Good. We should be in Vegas by lunch.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRLINER - NIGHT
The outer turbine on the left wing of the plane begins to emit pale grey smoke. The smoke quickly thickens and increases in volume, becoming jet black.
CUT TO:
INT. AIRLINER COCKPIT - NIGHT
Higgins glances at the LCD display set into the controls in front of him.
HIGGINS There's trouble on the port outer, sir. It's a flare-up.
JEFFERSON Shut it down.
Higgins presses a button on the main control panel.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRLINER - NIGHT
The outer turbine on the right wing begins smoking, much like the outer left.
CUT TO:
INT. AIRLINER COCKPIT - NIGHT
HIGGINS We're losing the starboard outer as well, sir.
JEFFERSON Shut that down too.
Higgins presses another button. He looks at the display screen.
HIGGINS Sir, we're losing power to both the inner turbines.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRLINER - NIGHT
The front of the plane begins to dip downwards, sending the aircraft into a nose dive.
CUT TO:
INT. AIRLINER COCKPIT - NIGHT
JEFFERSON Send a mayday signal to Sydney. Maybe we can turn around and land safely.
Higgins presses a button on his microphone headset.
HIGGINS Mayday, mayday. This is Delta Tango 190 to Sydney control. This is Delta Tango 190. Come in, Sydney.
There is no reply.
HIGGINS Come in, Sydney control!
Again, silence.
HIGGINS The radio's dead, sir.
JEFFERSON Damn it. Alright, we haven't got any choice. We need to initiate an emergency procedure.
Higgins swivels his chair around to face a panel on the wall labeled 'Emergency'.He removes the panel to reveal a bank of flick switches. He activates one, but nothing happens. He fiddles with it a few more times, but to no avail.
HIGGINS We've lost all power!
JEFFERSON What? We can't have!
HIGGINS There's no response at all.
HIGGINS Check the hydraulics.
Higgins flicks a different switch.
HIGGINS Negative.
JEFFERSON Auxiliaries? Electrics?
Higgins flicks two more switches.
HIGGINS Negative. They're all negative! All our power has been cut off!
CUT TO:
INT. AIRLINER CABIN - NIGHT
People screams as the plane shakes in it's descent. A metal food trolley hurtles down an aisle, smacking into an air hostess with a CRUNCH of bones.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRLINER - NIGHT
The plan hurtles downwards towards the impending sea, black smoke trailing from the turbines.
CUT TO:
INT. AIRLINER CABIN - NIGHT
Higgins and Jefferson sit and stare at the fast approaching ocean surface through the front windows of the plane. They are silent in their fear.
CUT TO:
EXT. OCEAN - NIGHT
The plane collides with the surface of the water. The aircraft explodes spectacularly with a deafening BOOM. Flaming shrapnel and corpses are hurled into the air, falling back down into the ocean with a splash. We PAN up to the sky. A plane can be seen flying overhead.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRLINER - NIGHT
The plane is an identical copy of the airliner that just crashed. As it continues flying, two pale green rings of light shine on the airliner. They pass over the body of the plane before disappearing.
CUT TO BLACK.
Captain Scarlet 2
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND ENTRANCE - NIGHT
Outside the famous Las Vegas casino, a scene not unlike a film premiere is taking place. Hundreds of onlookers and journalists shout at various celebrities and politicians as they enter the casino. A brunette female reporter, SANDY HUNTER, stands talking into a camera. She speaks in an American accent.
SANDY HUNTER I'm here outside the MGM Grand casino and hotel, which will host the launch of the 15th Annual Charity Poker Tournament tomorrow. This yearly event is populated by household names from all over the world in an effort to raise money for the African AIDs epidemic. Last year's event raised over twenty million dollars, but the organizers of the tournament are expecting to raise even more this time around.
CUT TO:
INT. SANG'S LIMOUSINE - NIGHT
The Director General of the United Asian Republic, KIN SANG, stares out of the window of his limousine as camera flashes go off. The car moves slowly towards the red carpet to the entrance. Sang is short and fat, with jet black hair and a pencil thin mustache. He is dressed in a dark green military uniform. He sighs deeply and speaks in a thick Chinese accent.
KIN SANG (Sighing) What am I doing here? This process is so...
His DRIVER, a young man wearing a dark suit and sunglasses butts in.
DRIVER Tacky, sir?
KIN SANG Yes... Tacky. Just like the whole country. That is the problem with America, driver.
DRIVER My name is -
KIN SANG (Interrupting) It is a country without class. Americans are vile creatures. Loud, brash, and distasteful. But, I suppose, when one only cares about oneself, one does not take the time to appear considerate towards other nations. Like the Heathrow incident last year... How many people did those terrorists kill? Two thousand? Two and a half? And yet, all the Americans cared about was if the President was still alive. Absolutely pathetic. The sooner I finish this tournament and get out of this godforsaken country, the better.
The car stops and Sang quickly gets out.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND ENTRANCE - NIGHT
Sang steps onto the red carpet with a wide smile on his face, his arms triumphantly thrust into the air.
KIN SANG Hello, America!
The crowd goes wild.
SANDY HUNTER And here is General Kin Sang, Director General of the United Republic. His presence here is but one example of the sheer respect this tournament receives from the governments of the world.
CUT TO:
INT. MGM GRAND HOTEL HALLWAY - NIGHT
Sang and Driver stand at the door to their suite while the latter rummages in his pockets for the key. Sang appears highly displeased.
A man in a black suit with a white button up shirt and a grey tie. He is young, handsome, and brown haired. He has a tiny black Bluetooth headset on his right ear. He calls out in a deep American accent.
SUITED MAN General Sang.
KIN SANG And who might you be?
SUITED MAN Alan Smithee, hotel security, sir.
KIN SANG Hotel security? What are you doing here?
ALAN SMITHEE I've been assigned to ensure your safety.
KIN SANG My safety? Captain, I am already safe. My driver here is a former member of the Chinese secret service. He specializes in six forms of hand to hand combat, is an expert in the use of automatic, semi-automatic and manual firearms, and earned the title 'The Infernal Demon' among his enemies for his skills in the art of torture.
DRIVER My name is -
KIN SANG So, as you can see, my security is already taken care of.
ALAN SMITHEE Be that as it may, sir, I'm required to stay with you. It's standard procedure for all foreign officials.
Sang grimaces in Driver's direction.
ALAN SMITHEE I'll stay in the main room, you won't even know I'm there.
Sang nods in the direction of the suite door.
Driver continues to fumble around for the key.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE MAIN ROOM - NIGHT
The room is large and extravagant. Expensive looking paintings adorn the cream walls. An enormous flat panel television is suspended five feet off the ground on a wall in front of a leather sofa. The lights are all turned off, save for a small lamp on a coffee table in front of the couch. Smithee is sitting on this sofa, his head leaning backwards as he dozes.
A faint SQUEAKING can be heard from outside the room.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOTEL SUITE - NIGhT
A window cleaning platform slowly descends down the glass wall of the building. This is what is causing the squeaking noise. A black duffel bag lies in the corner of the platform.
The ASSASSIN operating the platform is a tall, pale, brown haired man with deeply sunken eyes. He is dressed in dark clothing. He pulls a lever, and the platform stops moving. Assassin moves towards the window he has stopped at. He removes a small, very sharp blade from his jacket, and slowly moves towards the glass surface.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE BEDROOM - NIGHT
Sang is asleep in an enormous bed. The room is similarly decorated to the main room. Sang yawns in his sleep as the shadow of Assassin passes over him.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE MAIN ROOM - NIGHT
A sharp, scraping noises emanates from the bedroom. Smithee stirs and opens his eyes.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT
Assassin has already cut a small line through the glass. He begins slowly edging the blade back and forth, moving it onwards.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE BEDROOM - NIGHT
Sang rolls over in his sleep, facing away from the window.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE MAIN ROOM - NIGHT
Smithee slowly rises from the sofa.
ALAN SMITHEE (Whispering) General Sang?
There is no reply.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT
Assassin has almost finished cutting the hole. It appears to be circular in shape.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE MAIN ROOM - NIGHT
Smithee moves slowly and silently towards the bedroom door at the other side of the room.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE BEDROOM - NIGHT
The circle of glass is complete. Assassin carefully pulls it out of the window, leaving a large circular hole.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT
Assassin tosses the piece of glass over his shoulder. He moves towards the duffel bag and unzips it. There is a distant SMASH as the glass circle shatters on the street. Assassin removes a silenced M4 from the duffel bag, and moves back towards the hole in the window.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE BEDROOM - NIGHT
The silencer and barrel of the gun poke through the whole. Assassin slowly moves the weapon to aim at the sleeping Sang.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE MAIN ROOM - NIGHT
Smithee is pressed against the door, his ear to the wooden surface as he listens to what is happening next door.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT
Assassin smirks slightly, and whispers in a raspy French accent.
ASSASSIN No more, Director General. No more.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE MAIN ROOM - NIGHT
Smithee's eyes widen in fear as he hears the voice.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE BEDROOM - NIGHT
The door is blasted inwards from the main room. Smithee storms in and raises a Glock pistol. He shoots Assassin three times in quick succession through the window whole, with three resounding BLAMS. Sang wakes up, YELLING in terror.
Smithee lowers his gun.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT
Assassin slowly staggers backwards, bleeding profusely from his wounds. Blood drips down from his open mouth as he gasps in pain. He stops moving when his lower back presses against the railing of the platform. He drops the M4 to the floor of the platform.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE BEDROOM - NIGHT
Smithee presses a button on the gun and raises it again.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT
BLAM.
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
C.U. BULLET
The fourth bullet flies through the window hole. We PAN around it as it slowly heads towards Assassin's forehead. Suddenly, a crackle of blue electrical energy activates all over the bullet.
EFFECT: NORMAL MOTION
The bullet hits Assassin in the head with a CRACKLING noise. The force of the round sends Assassin toppling over the edge of the platform. Smithee pokes his head out of the hole in the window. From offscreen, a THUD and SQUELCH is head. Smithee screws up his face in disgust.
ALAN SMITHEE Yeesh.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL SUITE MAIN ROOM - NIGHT
A fuming Sang sits on the leather sofa in his pajamas and a dressing gown. Smithee hands him a steaming mug of coffee and sits down in an adjacent armchair.
KIN SANG (Irate) Oh, I can see hotel security has been doing it's job so well. How was that man able to get within fifty feet of me?
ALAN SMITHEE I'm sorry, sir, but if we'd given you any more extra protection, people would have gotten suspicious.
KIN SANG Why would that matter? You said it was standard -
He is silent for a moment.
KIN SANG I'm the only one, aren't I? I'm the only one to receive special protection.
Smithee keeps a poker face. Sang's eyes widen.
KIN SANG Why?
Smithee preses a button on his headset and talks into it.
ALAN SMITHEE Permission to brief the Director General?
A beat passes.
ALAN SMITHEE S.I.G.
KIN SANG Brief me? Brief me on what?
Smithee stands up and crosses over to the window to gaze out of it.
ALAN SMITHEE General Sang, we have reason to believe that you're being targeted for assassination by an alien race known as The Mysterons.
Sang bursts out in laughter. Smithee turns to look at him in a very grave manner. Sang immediately stops laughing.
KIN SANG You can't be serious. Nobody on Earth has even made contact with aliens before... Why would they want to kill me?
CAPTAIN GREY Your guess is as good as mine, General, but this threat is real. The existence of The Mysterons has been kept a secret from almost everybody. Information on them is given out on a need to know basis.
KIN SANG ...You're not from hotel security, are you?
ALAN SMITHEE My name is Captain Grey. I'm an agent of Spectrum.
KIN SANG Spectrum? Then this is serious...
CAPTAIN GREY Yes, it is.
KIN SANG How do you even know it's these... these Mysterons who want to kill me?
Grey removes a small, black device from his pocket.
CAPTAIN GREY Around two hours before you landed in America, we were sent this message.
Grey presses a button. The deep, booming voice of THE MYSTERONS emanates from the device.
MYSTERONS (Recording) This... is the voice of The Mysterons. We know you can hear us, Earth Men. You may have won small battles throughout this last year, but you have not changed anything. Our next act of retaliation will be to assassinate the Director General of the United Asian Republic. For you see, Earth Men, we are capable of catalyzing change on a level you are not capable of even imagining.
There is a stunned silence.
KIN SANG (Angrily) Were you ever going to tell me about this? Were you ever going to tell me that my life was being threatened by... by... by God knows what?
CAPTAIN GREY Let's say we had. Let's say we had officially given you extra protection, or barred you from entering the country. It would leave a paper trail that could be leaked or picked up on... And then what? Word would get out. A government conspiracy would be revealed. Panic. Chaos. Mayhem. That's what The Mysterons want, and we're not giving it to them.
KIN SANG Who are they? The Mysterons.
Grey sighs.
CAPTAIN GREY Last year, we picked up stray radio chatter from Mars. We decided we should investigate, so an agent named Conrad Turner - Captain Black - led an expedition there. The ships log was damaged, but from what we can gather, Black and his men discovered an alien complex - a Mysteron city. The Mysterons scanned Black's ship with what we now know to be a non lethal probe, but... it showed up as hostile. Black destroyed the entire colony.
KIN SANG So how are they still alive?
CAPTAIN GREY That's the thing about the Mysterons. They're good at... rebuilding. They redeveloped their colony in seconds and eliminated Black and his crew.
Sang is silent.
CAPTAIN GREY It was a Mysteron suicide bomber who blew up Heathrow. President Winters was their first target.
KIN SANG Who took him to London?
CAPTAIN GREY A Scotland Yard agent named Paul Metcalfe. The Mysterons killed him, and created a mindless clone in his place. He was essentially a slave.
KIN SANG He can't have been too mindless if he was able to fend off so many of your men.
CAPTAIN GREY ...Yeah, he is pretty good.
There is a long silence.
KIN SANG What good is any of this to us, anyway? How are you going to keep me safe at the tournament tomorrow?
CAPTAIN GREY You can't seriously still be expecting to compete. We need to get you out of the country and into hiding.
KIN SANG Captain, to withdraw now would be seen as an act of cowardice and selfishness. I couldn't afford the negative publicity even if I wanted to.
Grey sighs.
CAPTAIN GREY Then I suppose we'd better prepare for the worst.
The muffled sound of somebody banging into the wall outside is heard. Grey's face freezes in apprehension.
CAPTAIN GREY (Whispering) Get down!
Sang crouches down and presses himself against the couch. Grey aims his gun at the door. The sound of somebody fumbling around for something outside is heard. The door opens and Driver stagger through, holding a bottle of beer. He sees Grey aiming the gun at him, drops the beer in shock, and passes out, collapsing on the floor.
CUT TO:
INT. MGM GRAND HOTEL HALLWAY - DAY
Grey and Sang walk briskly down the hallway. Sang is once again wearing his green military uniform.
CAPTAIN GREY Your private jet is at McCarran International. It's ready to leave as soon as you are, even in an emergency.
KIN SANG Excellent.
CAPTAIN GREY We also have backup en route, should we need it.
KIN SANG Backup?
A man in an identical suit to Grey, but with a dark blue tie, suddenly joins them. He has sandy blonde hair and rugged good looks.
BLUE TIED MAN Two Spectrum Assault Teams are on their way.
KIN SANG And you are?
BLUE TIED MAN Captain Blue of Spectrum.
CAPTAIN GREY Good to see you again, Captain.
CAPTAIN BLUE Likewise, Captain.
Sang appears indignant.
CUT TO:
EXT. NEVADA DESERT - DAY
The blazing sun pounds down on the sand. The city of Las Vegas can be seen in the distance. Two large, jet black vans trundle along the road to the city. These are the S.A.T.s.
CUT TO:
INT. S.A.T. VAN - DAY
A weedy, bespectacled driver whistles as he takes his hands off the wheel to scratch his head.
In the back of the van sit eight heavily armoured S.A.T. agents. Their armour is glossy black and bulky. Their faces are covered by black helmets with thin crimson visors. A dark red Spectrum logo sits at the centre of the chest of every agent. The agents are all carrying chunky black machine guns.
The driver talks in with a Southern twang.
S.A.T. DRIVER Beautiful day, ain't it, boys?
There is no reply. The driver appears displeased.
S.A.T. DRIVER Suit yourself.
CUT TO:
EXT. NEVADA DESERT - DAY
A man in jeans, a black leather jacket, dark sunglasses and a baseball cap steps into the middle of the road from the desert. His face is obscured by the glasses and the hat.
CUT TO:
INT. S.A.T. VAN - DAY
S.A.T. DRIVER What does this guy want?
CUT TO:
EXT. NEVADA DESERT - DAY
The first S.A.T. van slowly decelerates and stops in front of the man, as he is blocking the road. The second van follows suit. S.A.T. Driver leans out of his window and calls out.
S.A.T. DRIVER Hey, buddy! You need to get out of the road!
The MYSTERY MAN remains still and silent. S.A.T. Driver sighs and shakes his head.
S.A.T. DRIVER (Muttering) Probably a drunk.
C.U. S.A.T. VAN UNDERSIDE
A small, cylindrical device is attached to the underside of the device. A small green light on top of it blinks.
BACK TO SHOT
Mystery Man stuffs his hand into his jacket pocket, and removes a pen shaped object. He lets his hand fall to below his waist, keeping his grip on the device tight. A flash of worry passes over S.A.T. Driver's face.
S.A.T. DRIVER What the -
Mystery Man presses a button on the top of the device.
C.U. S.A.T. VAN UNDERSIDE
The light on top of the device turns from green to red, and it emits a high pitched BEEEEEP.
BACK TO SHOT
The van explodes, and the chassis of the vehicle is thrown off the road and onto the sand. The doors of the second van open as S.A.T. agents prepare to jump out and start fighting. Mystery Man presses the button again. The second van explodes. The men who managed to get out of the van in time are set alight. Mystery Man turns around, away from the flaming wreckage and towards the camera. From behind him, two brand new S.A.T. vans emerge and drive past the debris of the originals. Mystery Man smirks as the vans follow him.
CUT TO:
INT. POKER ROOM - DAY
The poker tournament is not taking place in the actual casino, but an events hall on the top floor of the building. The room is large and well furnished. The ceiling is very high up, and the North wall is made entirely of glass, creating a massive window. The carpet is a deep purple, while the walls are painted a rich red. Extravagant chandeliers hang from the ceiling.
Dozens of tables are placed strategically around the room. They are all identical, round and solid, as if they were all sliced from the same cylinder. Each one is full of celebrities and politicians laughing, talking, and playing poker.
Hotel security prowl around the room in similar suits to the Spectrum captains. However, their ties are all black, and they wear dark sunglasses.
Sang sits at his table laughing jovially. A fair distance away from him, Grey and Blue stand near the wall, inconspicuously keeping an eye on him.
CAPTAIN GREY Did you get an I.D. on the assassin?
CAPTAIN BLUE He was an escaped murderer in France - Jacques Parmontier. Interpol found his real body in a ditch in Normandy.
CAPTAIN GREY Speaking of bodies found in ditches, how come -
CAPTAIN BLUE He'll be here soon. His plane got held -
A deafening SCREAMING of engines pierces the air. Many of the people in the room wince and cover their ears. Sang turns to Grey and Blue and shouts over the noise.
KIN SANG (Shouting) What is that?
A large object sinks downwards outside the window. Blue gasps as the sunlight is obscured. The object is a white F-22 fighter jet. It hovers outside the window. A blonde man in a tuxedo tries running to a door. The jet has two gun turrets on its underside. People scream and take cover behind the poker tables as high caliber bullets riddle the room, shredding apart pictures and punching holes in walls. The man ducks back behind a table, screaming. Grey slides to cover next to Sang, and Blue ducks behind a neighboring table.
CAPTAIN GREY (Shouting) We're going to get you out of here! Stay calm!
CAPTAIN BLUE (Shouting into earpiece) We need backup! Send the S.A.T.s up, and make sure they're heavily armed!
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND ENTRANCE - DAY
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
The S.A.T. vans grind to a halt in front of the entrance. The back doors burst open, and the sixteen S.A.T. agents pour out and run to the door.
CUT TO:
INT. POKER ROOM - DAY
EFFECT: NORMAL MOTION
Grey grabs Sang by the collar.
CAPTAIN GREY (Shouting) Cause a distraction, I'll get him out of here!
Blue, still crouching, dashes out of cover and runs towards a table on the other side of the room. Bullets rain down upon him, but he manages to get to cover in time. Meanwhile, Grey quickly leads Sang through a door, and closes it quickly.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Shouting) Everybody, stay calm and stay behind cover! Backup is on its way!
CUT TO:
INT. MGM GRAND HOTEL HALLWAY - DAY
Grey and Sang race down the corridor and through a door leading to a stairwell. On the opposite side of the corridor, the S.A.T. agents burst out of a separate stairwell and run into the poker room.
CUT TO:
INT. HOTEL STAIRWELL - DAY
Grey swiftly leads Sang down the stairwell.
CAPTAIN GREY We need to get to the airport. Where's your car parked?
KIN SANG My driver is waiting for me in the car park at the back.
CAPTAIN GREY Well, only twenty nine floors left to go.
CUT TO:
INT. POKER ROOM - DAY
The S.A.T. agents pour into the room and take strategic positions.
S.A.T. LEADER Cease fire!
The jet stops shooting. Captain Blue raises his head above his cover point.
CAPTAIN BLUE What the hell are you waiting for? Take it down!
S.A.T. LEADER raises his assault rifle and fires a burst of rounds in Blue's direction. Blue ducks back behind the poker table just in time.
CAPTAIN BLUE Damn it... It's The Mysterons.
S.A.T. Leader stands in the middle of the room to address everyone in it.
S.A.T. LEADER Where is General Sang, Director General of the United Asian Republic?
There is no reply.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Muttering) Son of a bitch...
S.A.T. LEADER I will repeat the question. Where is General Sang, Director General of the United Asian Republic?
Again, silence.
S.A.T. LEADER We will kill you all, one by one, until we have the information we require.
The main doors open, and a man walks in. S.A.T. Leader spins round and fires at him. He slumps to the ground, face down on the carpet.
The hostages begin screaming.
S.A.T. LEADER Silence! There will be silence!
The deafening BLAM of a gunshot echoes around the room. S.A.T. Leader's head jerks forwards as the bullet pierces his helmet and enters his skull. He falls to the floor, a crackle of electricity visible around the gunshot wound.
Blue looks in shock from the corpse to the door, and the other S.A.T. agents do the same. In amazement, they stare at CAPTAIN SCARLET, dressed in a black suit, blood red tie, and a newly bloodied white shirt. In his hand is a smoking Glock pistol. He speaks in a middle class English accent.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Have it your way.
The S.A.T. agents stare at him for a moment more, before raising their guns in unison.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Eyes fixated on S.A.T. agents) Still alive, Adam?
CAPTAIN BLUE (From behind cover) Just about.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Eyes fixated on S.A.T. agents) Good to hear.
A beat passes.
Scarlet raises his gun and shoots another S.A.T. agent before ducking behind a nearby poker table. The other agents return fire. The rounds from their machine guns shred the cash and playing cards on the table. Scarlet raises his pistol over the edge of the table and blindfires. One bullet flies out of the broken window wall, but another ricochets off a metal portrait frame and hits an agent, who falls to the floor.
Blue dives out from behind cover, landing on his side. He fires two rounds into another agent, who convulses in pain and falls to the floor. Blue rolls sideways to behind the same table as Scarlet. The jet begins firing again, narrowly missing Blue.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where's Sang?
CAPTAIN BLUE Grey got him out. They're heading for the airport.
Scarlet reaches into his blazer and pulls out a black, spherical object. He lobs it over the table, where it lands in the midst of a clump of five agents. It detonates upon impact with the ground, sending out a shock wave of electricity and killing all five men.
The six remaining S.A.T. agents take up positions around the window, facing Blue and Scarlet's position.
Another woman tries to run away, but an agent shoots in her direction. Scarlet pops up from behind cover and shoots him twice before he can kill her.
One agent glances downwards to his side and out of the broken window. Through the gap, we see two tiny shapes running across the car park thirty floors below.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND CAR PARK - DAY
Grey and Sang tear across the car park to Sang's waiting limousine.
Grey wrenches open the passenger door to let Sang in. He slams the door shut, runs around to the driver's door, and lets himself in.
The limo reverses out of the parking space and begins driving across the car park.
CUT TO:
INT. POKER ROOM - DAY
S.A.T. AGENT The Director General is down there! He's escaping in a car!
The jet turns to follow the limo. Blue catches a glimpse of this while peeking over the poker table.
CAPTAIN BLUE Paul, they got spotted! What are we going to do?
Scarlet appears in thought for a moment.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Tell Grey to keep close to this building. I'll take care of the jet.
Scarlet jumps to his feet. The agents begin firing at him. Scarlet returns fire, taking down two more agents, and runs through the main double doors into the hallway unscathed.
Blue sighs and shakes his head.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Mockingly) Leave me with the Mysteron foot soldiers. Great, Paul. Great.
He presses a button on his earpiece.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Into headset) Grey? It's Blue. Listen, they know you got away. The jet is coming after you.
CUT TO:
INT. SANG'S LIMOUSINE - DAY
Grey glances in the rear view mirror as he drives. From around the corner of the building comes the jet, engines screaming.
CAPTAIN GREY (Into headset) I see it. What the hell should I do?
KIN SANG Oh my God, it's following us! IT'S FOLLOWING US!
CAPTAIN GREY SHUT UP! (Into headset) Blue?
CAPTAIN BLUE (Over headset) Keep circling the building.
CAPTAIN GREY What, are you crazy? It would take two laps for that pilot to realise what I was doing and go round the other -
CAPTAIN BLUE (Over headset) Two laps is all you need. Scarlet's going to take down the jet somehow. It's the only chance you've got, Grey.
Grey grits his teeth in frustration.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Over headset) Grey?
CAPTAIN GREY (Angrily) Spectrum Is Green!
KIN SANG Oh God, it's getting closer!
CAPTAIN GREY SHUT UP!
CUT TO:
INT. POKER ROOM - DAY
Blue stands up and strafes left, firing wildly. He is fired upon by the agents, but he manages to kill three of them before his pistol gives the CLICK of an empty magazine.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND ROOF - DAY
The stairwell door bursts open and Scarlet runs out onto the roof. The whirring of the jet engines can be heard.
CUT TO:
INT. POKER ROOM - DAY
Blue crouches down behind another poker table, reloads his pistol, and hoots the last agent in the head.
The agent staggers backwards and falls out of the window.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND CAR PARK - DAY
Meanwhile, Grey is just completing his first lap of the building. The limo handbrake turns around the corner and accelerates along the north side of the building.
The body of the S.A.T. agent falls from the sky and lands on top of the limo with a CRUNCH of bones and a CREAK of metal being heavily dented. The corpse bounces off the roof and onto the ground behind the car.
CUT TO:
INT. SANG'S LIMOUSINE - DAY
KIN SANG WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?
CAPTAIN GREY I can't save you unless I can concentrate, so shut up!
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND ROOF - DAY
Scarlet watches the body hit the car from the edge of the roof. He appears to be in thought, calculating the speed of the jet.
The roof is shaped like a cross, with one arm being made up of several consecutively descending segments. Scarlet is currently standing at one end of the only pair of arms with a consistent height.
Scarlet turns around and begins sprinting towards the opposite end of the pair of arms he is on.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND CAR PARK - DAY
The limo races down the east side of the casino, the jet in close pursuit.
CUT TO:
INT. POKER ROOM - DAY
With all the rogue S.A.T. agents dead, Blue stands up and addresses the hostages.
CAPTAIN BLUE Is everybody else alright?
There is a fearful silence. Blue raises his gun and fires at the ceiling. BLAM.
CAPTAIN BLUE IS EVERYBODY ELSE ALRIGHT?
The hostages murmur in general affirmation.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Exasperatedly) Excellent.
He turns around and sprints out of the room.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND ROOF - DAY
Scarlet has reached the central point of the cross shape. He continues running as fast as he can.
CUT TO:
INT. SANG'S LIMOUSINE - DAY
Grey power slides the car around the corner to the north side of the casino.
CAPTAIN GREY (Into headset) Two laps, Blue. You'd better be right about this.
The jet tears around the corner, guns blazing.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND CAR PARK - DAY
The car races towards the end of the north arm of the cross shaped building, the front top floor window of which is the one that was destroyed by the jet's gunfire.
The limo runs over the S.A.T. agent's corpse.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND ROOF - DAY
Scarlet reaches the end of the arm and leaps off, throwing his arms out in front of him.
CUT TO:
EXT. MGM GRAND CAR PARK - DAY
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
Scarlet, legs tucked in slightly and arms in front of his face, falls through the air, falls downwards and forwards. He slowly begins turning over forward ways.
The jet glides three floors underneath, the pilot seemingly oblivious.
Grey looks upwards out of the limo windshield, mouth agape in amazement.
EFFECT: NORMAL MOTION
Scarlet lands on top of the jet on his knees with a loud THUD. The jet quickly descends in altitude by a slight around under the weight.
Almost immediately after he lands, Scarlet topples backwards to the back end of the jet. He catches hold of a metal buckle on the surface of the jet and holds on for dear life, gasping with the pain of supporting his body weight in mid-air with one hand at his current speed.
A S.P.V. (Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle), a hulking, tank like vehicle painted in a greyish blue colour, tears around the corner after the limousine.
CUT TO:
INT. S.P.V. - DAY
Blue sits backwards at the driver's controls. He steers by using a large screen in front of him, which shows a video feed from the front of the vehicle. He wrestles with the steering wheel.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Into headset) Scarlet's taking care of the jet, so get Sang to the airport now!
CAPTAIN GREY (Over headset) S.I.G.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
Delta Tango 190 lands on the tarmac of the landing strip at McCarran International airport.
CUT TO:
INT. AIRPORT FLIGHT CONTROL TOWER - DAY
All is relatively peaceful within the control tower - it is not a busy day. AIRPORT WORKER glances at his screen.
AIRPORT WORKER Delta Tango 190 has just landed from Sydney, sir.
His superior nods in acknowledgment.
AIRPORT SUPERIOR Good. Bring them around to the terminal.
CUT TO:
EXT. LAS VEGAS STRIP - DAY
The limo tears out of the car park and onto the main Las Vegas strip. It turns left and speeds forwards, with Blue in close pursuit in the S.P.V.
The jet turns sharply, almost throwing Scarlet off. He hangs on with one hand and grimaces, gritting his teeth in pain.
The jet has multiple buckles like the on Scarlet is holding onto running down it's center. He grabs onto another one to hold on for dear life as the jet completes its turn.
Scarlet begins to slowly pull himself forwards and towards the cockpit., moving his hands from buckle to buckle.
The jet fires the rocket from a cannon on its wing.
The S.P.V. swerves into the path of the rocket, taking the force of the explosion. It rocks on its wheels, but carries on driving.
CUT TO:
INT. S.P.V. - DAY
Blue is jerked around his chair as the vehicle is rocked by the explosion.
CAPTAIN BLUE Jesus!
CUT TO:
EXT. LAS VEGAS STRIP - DAY
Scarlet pulls himself to look into the cockpit of the jet. He gasps as he realises nobody is inside.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What the...
He GROANS and tucks his knees under his torso. He closes his eyes, willing himself to do something.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Come on, come on, come on...
He lets go of the two buckles he is holding on to and very slowly draw himself up to his full height, standing on top of the jet and struggling not to fall off.
Sang watches in sheer amazement through the sunroof of his limo.
Scarlet raises his foot and brings it down, smashing through the glass of the cockpit window. He does it again, making the hole bigger. He then drops inside the cockpit.
CUT TO:
INT. FIGHTER JET COCKPIT - DAY
Scarlet lands in the pilots seat and observes the control bank. The steering joystick is moving by itself, and the weaponry triggers are pressing in and out of their own will.
Scarlet grabs the joystick and wrestles with it with difficulty.
CUT TO:
EXT. LAS VEGAS STRIP - DAY
The limo sharply turns a corner. The jet wobbles unsteadily, but manages to turn the corner as well.
CUT TO:
INT. FIGHTER JET COCKPIT - DAY
Scarlet bares his teeth in frustration as he struggles to gain control of the jet.
CUT TO:
INT. AIRPORT FLIGHT CONTROL TOWER - DAY
AIRPORT WORKER Sir, there's a problem with Delta Tango 190.
AIRPORT SUPERIOR What's wrong?
AIRPORT WORKER They're not opening the doors!
AIRPORT SUPERIOR What?
AIRPORT WORKER They're not opening the doors!
Airport Superior grabs a pair of binoculars from his desk and moves to the window of the room.
POV - AIRPORT SUPERIOR
He zooms the binoculars in on Delta Tango 190, looking into the cockpit. There is nobody there. He moves his view to the passenger windows. Nobody can be seen.
BACK TO SHOT
AIRPORT SUPERIOR That plane is empty!
AIRPORT WORKER How? Where's everybody gone?
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
The limo and the S.P.V. race onto the tarmac. On the other side, around a mile away, is Sang's private jet.
CUT TO:
INT. SANG'S LIMOUSINE - DAY
CAPTAIN GREY Don't worry, General, we're almost there.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
The limo accelerates, causing the S.P.V. to fall behind.
Suddenly, the jet nosedives towards the ground between the two vehicles, crashing and exploding in a large fireball. The S.P.V. brakes and swerves to the side to avoid being caught in the explosion.
The door slides open, and Blue jumps out. He runs to the jet.
CAPTAIN BLUE Paul? PAUL?
There is no reply.
Blue is suddenly bathed in a large shadow. He looks up and laughs as Scarlet glides to the ground in an ejector seat with a parachute attached.
CAPTAIN BLUE Was all this part of that plan of yours?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Not so much.
The seat hits the ground and Scarlet climbs off.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Come on, we need to get to flight control and explain what's going on.
They clamber into the S.P.V.
CUT TO:
EXT. SANG'S PRIVATE JET - DAY
The limo screeches to a halt outside the jet, and Grey and Sang get out. A small flight of stairs on wheels leads up to the entrance of the plane.
CAPTAIN GREY Come on, we should get out of here in case any Mysteron reinforcements arrive.
KIN SANG You're coming with me, Captain?
CAPTAIN GREY (Grinning slyly) You didn't think I'd leave you just when we were starting to get along, did you?
They walk up the stairs and into the jet.
CUT TO:
EXT. FLIGHT CONTROL TOWER - DAY
The S.P.V. pulls up outside the tower, and Blue and Scarlet get out. Airport Superior runs towards them.
AIRPORT SUPERIOR What the hell is going on? Who are you two?
CAPTAIN BLUE Captain Blue, Spectrum. We apologise for the explosion, but I believe you knew of the maximum security arrangements for the Director General of the U.A.R.?
AIRPORT SUPERIOR Explosion? What explosion?
A confused Scarlet points in the direction of the flaming jet wreckage. In the distance, a fire engine is dousing the flames with a large water cannon, and airport security agents are observing the scene.
AIRPORT SUPERIOR That was you?
CAPTAIN SCARLET If you weren't talking about the explosion, then what's wrong?
AIRPORT SUPERIOR I was talking about an airliner able to dock at a terminal with no passengers and no crew!
Scarlet's eyes widen in shock. Blue glances at him, and a look of fearful realization passes over his face.
AIRPORT SUPERIOR What? What's the matter?
CUT TO:
INT. AIRLINER COCKPIT - DAY
The cockpit is silent and empty. Suddenly, a lever clicks forwards.
CUT TO:
EXT. FLIGHT CONTROL TOWER - DAY
Delta Tango 190 comes racing past the tower from the terminal on the other side of the airport, heading down the long landing strip towards Sang's jet.
CAPTAIN SCARLET GO!
Scarlet and Blue run to the S.P.V. and scramble in. The doors slide shut as they race away.
CUT TO:
INT. SANG'S JET - DAY
Grey glances out of the window and sees the airliner heading down the strip towards them.
CAPTAIN GREY Oh my God... We need to go! WE NEED TO GO NOW!
Driver sits at the jet controls, which are one with the lavishly decorated passenger cabin. His mouth hangs agape in fear.
KIN SANG GO, YOU IDIOT! TAKE OFF!
DRIVER (Petrified) Y... Yes, sir...
He pulls a lever and flicks on two switches. The jet lurches forwards, picking up speed.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
WIDE SHOT: The two aircraft race towards one another down the landing strip, rapidly diminishing the mile between them.
BACK TO SHOT
The S.P.V. begins catching up with the airliner.
CUT TO:
INT. S.P.V. - DAY
Scarlet is driving, and Blue sits in the gunner position.
CAPTAIN BLUE I can't get a clear shot... What the hell are we going to do?
CAPTAIN SCARLET We could ram into the tires, try and blow them.
CAPTAIN BLUE Are you crazy? That's suicide!
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Not for me.
Scarlet presses button on the driver's control panel. A hatch in the roof slides open, and Blue's seat is ejected upwards at great speed. The hatch slides shut. Scarlet turns the wheel to line the vehicle up with the plane tires.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
The S.P.V. accelerates forward, crashing into the back left tire of the airliner. Nothing happens. The S.P.V. backs up slightly, and rams into the tire again. A few sparks are created by the collision.
Meanwhile, Sang's jet slowly begins to take off. The front of the aircraft rises off the tarmac slightly.
The S.P.V. crashes into the tires again. This time, the wheel blows, and the S.P.V. crashes into the metal frame of the landing gear. The frame tears the front of the vehicle apart, rupturing the fuel tank. The S.P.V. explodes.
CUT TO:
INT. S.P.V. - DAY
Scarlet raises his arm to cover his face, but he is engulfed in flames.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
The plane begins sliding to the side, its back swinging to the right, towards Sang's jet.
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
Sang's jet fully takes off from the ground.
CUT TO:
INT. SANG'S JET - DAY
Grey grits his teeth in anticipation. Sang grips onto a table tightly. Driver desperately tries to avoid the out of control airliner.
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
As Sang's jet passes over the now sliding sideways Delta Tango 190, its left wing is clipped by the airliner's tail. The wing is cut before the turbine, and this large piece of wing flies off to the side. The jet begins barrel rolling, out of control due to the loss of one of only two turbines.
The jet crashes to the tarmac and skids along the landing strip. The sparks from the friction ignite the fuel the plane is leaking, and sets it on fire. Sang's jet explodes, sending a large fireball into the sky.
FADE TO BLACK.
EFFECT: NORMAL MOTION
CUT TO:
EXT. AIRPORT LANDING STRIP - DAY
Firemen douse the flames of Sang's destroyed jet with hoses. An ambulance is parked near the intertwined wreckages of Delta Tango 190 and the S.P.V. The two ambulance drivers carry a corpse in a body bag from the latter and place him in the back of the ambulance before clambering in and driving away. Blue stands nearby with Airport Superior.
AIRPORT SUPERIOR He was brave, your friend... Stupid, but brave. It's just a damn shame he died in vain.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Murmuring) Maybe he didn't die...
AIRPORT SUPERIOR (Taken aback) Excuse me?
CAPTAIN BLUE ...In vain.
CUT TO BLACK.

FADE TO:
EXT. GRAVEYARD - DAY
A black clad crowd congregates around an open grave as a wooden coffin is lowered into it. Among them are Scarlet, Blue, COLONEL WHITE and DESTINY ANGEL. All four of them wear dark sunglasses. A PRIEST reads from a bible in an Irish accent. Rain pours down in buckets, and many members of the congregation are holding up black umbrellas.
PRIEST Eternal rest grant unto him, o Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in piece. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. May Alan's family, friends, and colleagues at the Department of Water Treatment -
GREY'S MOTHER, a stern looking woman with grey hair, glances over at the Spectrum attendants, a look of suspicion on her face.
PRIEST (Continuing) - Be granted relief from their sorrow, as Alan is now by your side.
CONGREGATION (Collectively) Amen.
CUT TO:
EXT. SPECTRUM PRIVATE JET - DAY
The sleek white jet speeds upwards through the grey sky, cutting through the rain.
CUT TO:
INT. SPECTRUM PRIVATE JET - DAY
Scarlet, Blue and Destiny sit around a circular coffee table in leather chairs, awkwardly silent. Scarlet takes a large sip from a glass of whiskey. Neither of the other two are drinking. White sits alone looking out of a window. His face is ashen and contemplative.
CUT TO:
EXT. SPECTRUM PRIVATE JET - DAY
The plane flies towards an enormous metallic structure suspended in the sky - Cloudbase, Spectrum headquarters. An airborne aircraft carrier the size of a small city.
CUT TO:
EXT. CLOUDBASE LANDING STRIP - DAY
The plane comes in to land and taxis along the landing strip.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CONTROL CENTER
The control center is a lagrge, windowless, glossy white room lined with computer terminals. A large white rectangular block becomes one with the floor in the middle of the room, acting as a conference table. The end of the room is separated from the rest by a glass wall. This is White's office. A large Spectrum logo is engraved into the back wall behind his semi circle shaped desk.
A large group of around sevnty Spectrum personnel are standing around the conference table. The crowd includes Scarlet, Blue, Destiny and LIEUTENANT GREEN, a tall, young, black man. White stands at the end of the table as the crowd observes him. Blue, Scarlet, Green and White wear uniforms coloured in black and their respective colours.
White speaks in a clear, upper class English accent.
COLONEL WHITE Alan Smithee... Captain Grey... Was a fine man... And a fine agent. He was loyal to his duty to the very end. Alan gave his life for the chance that another life might be spared... And for the chance that we might deny our enemies victory. His loss... is a tragedy. But... It is one of many. However much we may miss Alan, many innocent people died two days ago. The Mysterons were willing to kill over a hundred civilians on Delta Tango 190, two entire S.A.T.s, and innocents at the casino for the sake of eliminating the Director General. We need to find out why they needed him dead.
There is an uneasy silence.
COLONEL WHITE The death of Captain Grey is an emotional burden for us all, and I realise that it will not be easy to put his murder behind us... But we can't afford to let our emotions cloud our judgment. Alan would want us to put him out of our minds until we were able to guarantee the prevention of any more human life being spilled at the hands of The Mysterons. I don't know how long it will take to ensure that reality, but I do know this: There will be a time to grieve.
A beat passes.
COLONEL WHITE I promise you... There will be a time to grieve.
Another beat passes.
COLONEL WHITE Fortunately... We have a lead.
CUT TO:
INT. WAREHOUSE SECURITY KIOSK - DAY
A lone security guard sits in front of a bank of monitors, reading a newspaper.
COLONEL WHITE (V.O.) The bomber managed to get inside the warehouse where the S.A.T. transportation was being held without raising any alarms.
The CLICK of a door opening sounds from offscreen. The guard turns around. PFFT. A bullet hits hiim in the head, spraying blood over the monitors. Mystery Man enters and closes blinds surrounding the windows, hiding the body from sight.
CUT TO:
INT. WAREHOUSE - DAY
Mystery Man walks from out of kiosk towards the S.A.T. trucks. He bends down near the first one and crawls underneath, dragging a small backpack with him. From under the truck, he places his hat and sunglasses on the ground to the side, his face hidden by the vehicle.
CUT TO:
INT. WAREHOUSE SECURITY KIOSK - DAY
The monitor shows Mystery Man start to climb out, legs first, from underneath the van. Blood drips down across the screen, obscuring the image.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CONTROL CENTER
A section of the table flips upwards, revealing a screen on its underside. The screen displays the camera feed from the warehouse, with Mystery Man's legs emerging from under the van.
COLONEL WHITE He then began arming the explosives. The men in the armoury are currently investigating the type of bomb he used.
Mystery Man's torso emerges from under the van.
COLONEL WHITE This is the important part.
The personnel gasp as Mystery Man fully emerges from underneath the vehicle and stands up. His face is slightly pale and craggy. His hair is black and unkempt.
Scarlet's fists tighten as he grits his teeth.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (With venom) Black...
CAPTAIN BLACK looks up towards the camera, and the image cuts to static.
A beat passes.
COLONEL WHITE At this point, The Mysterons must have remotely destroyed the camera... But all security data from the warehouse is backed up in another nearby building. This... This is how we know that Conrad Turner... Captain Black... is still alive.
CAPTAIN SCARLET He's been missing for a year. If he survived, why is he only coming back out in the open now?
COLONEL WHITE Captain, I-
Scarlet slams his fist on the table.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Angrily) Why didn't we find him sooner?
COLONEL WHITE (Firmly) CAPTAIN.
Scarlet stops talking and looks around. All eyes are on him, slightly alarmed and nervous. Scarlet exhales heavily. Blue appears surprised.
COLONEL WHITE This is the first sighting we've had of Captain Black since he tried to kill President Winters in New York last year. I don't know how he's gone unnoticed for so long... But now that we know he's still alive, we can work to bring him in.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Angrily) And how do you suggest we do that?
White's face becomes emotionless.
COLONEL WHITE (Sternly) Why don't you go and see how they're doing in the armoury, Scarlet?
Scarlet remains for a moment, and then walks quickly towards the exit. Destiny appears distressed, still staring at the image of Black on the monitor.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE ARMOURY
The armoury is a dark, cramped room full of gun racks and shelves containing other equipment. TELUM, a gangly young man with unkempt brown hair dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, sits behind a desk while Scarlet stands in front of it. One of the explosive devices, burnt to a crisp, sits on the surface of the desk. A small tube protrudes from it. Telum talks in a medium pitched Scottish accent.
TELUM I'd say the bombs were in position for about five hours before they were detonated. The technology is kind of primitive... They were detonated close by with a radio transmitter.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Do you know what kind of explosive they used?
Telum shakes his head.
TELUM No. Whatever it is, I've never seen anything like it before. My guess is that The Mysterons used elements from Mars that we haven't discovered.
Scarlet picks up the device, and runs a finger along the tube.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What's this?
TELUM That's... That's nasty. That tube was connected directly to the gas tank of the van. When the bomb went off, the fuel ignited and exploded as well... It was probably a way of making sure that nobody got lucky and survived.
Scarlet replaces the device on the desk.
TELUM How did the charged rounds work out?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Fine. They'll never get up again.
CUT TO:
EXT. NEW YORK ROOFTOP - NIGHT
We are shown a quick flash of Black throttling Scarlet. Scarlet pushes a sparking electrical wire into Black's neck, causing him to scream in pain.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE ARMOURY
Scarlet's face is downtrodden.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Muttering) But that's what I thought last time...
CUT TO:
INT. SCARLET'S QUARTERS
Scarlet's room is small and windowless, with grey walls. The only furniture is a bed pressed against one wall and a small table in the middle of the room with four chairs chairs. A small television sits on top of a miniature fridge. A doorway leads to a small bathroom.
Scarlet sits on the bed slouching forwards in boxers and a vest. He appears pale and distressed - haunted. In his hand is an open bottle of beer. Scarlet raises it to his mouth to drink from it, but looks inside and realises it is empty.
FADE TO:
INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
White sits in darkness in his office, his computer monitor bathing his face in pale blue light.
We cut to his computer screen. White is looking at Grey's file - a picture of Grey and a bank of information headed 'Alan Smithee - Captain Grey'
FADE TO:
INT. ANGELS' LOUNGE
The lounge is a beautifully, yet minimally, decorated relaxation room. Destiny sits alone on a sofa, looking solemn.
FADE TO:
INT. OBSERVATION DECK - NIGHT
The room is made entirely of glass, including the floor, looking out onto the night sky. Blue sits slumped against the back wall.
CUT TO:
INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
White sighs and presses a button on his keyboard. A BLEEP emanates from the computer and red lettering appears over Grey's picture -'K.I.A. File deleted.'
CUT TO:
INT. SCARLET'S QUARTERS
Scarlet drops the empty bottle to the floor.
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
The bottle hits the ground and rolls to the side of the room, where it joins a collection of similarly empty bottles.
FADE TO BLACK.
FADE TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE MESS HALL
Scarlet sits in uniform at a long canteen table, eating from a bowl of cereal. He appears exhausted, and a light stubble covers his face.
Blue sits down opposite him, setting a tray down on the table.
CAPTAIN BLUE Morning.
Scarlet grunts in acknowledgment. Blue raises an eyebrow.
CAPTAIN BLUE Did you sleep? You look awful.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I'm fine.
CAPTAIN BLUE Look, if... If it's about Black, I -
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Firmly) I'm fine.
Blue sighs and begins eating.
CAPTAIN BLUE Have you heard the news?
CAPTAIN SCARLET What news?
CAPTAIN BLUE The U.S. Secretary of Defense is coming up here himself. He's leading an investigation into Sang's death.
CAPTAIN SCARLET But he must know how Sang died.
CAPTAIN BLUE Yeah, but he was assassinated when under our protection. As far as he's concerned, we're responsible.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Why the hell would he think that?
Blue shrugs.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What story does the public have?
CAPTAIN BLUE Sang died peacefully of a heart attack in his sleep the night he arrived, and the fighting was all part of a military training exercise.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Nobody's going to believe that.
CAPTAIN BLUE They will if the witnesses in the casino keep their mouths shut. They're being detained until they all agree to sign about twelve kinds of secrecy agreements.
Scarlet sighs.
CAPTAIN SCARLET And nobody will know how Alan really died.
Scarlet notices Destiny leaving the hall through the exit.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Gotta go.
Scarlet gets up and walks briskly towards the exit. Blue sighs.
CAPTAIN BLUE Yeah, I'll clear up your mess. Thanks for asking.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CORRIDOR - DAY
The corridor is glossy white, much like the control center, but it has windows along one wall, allowing the light of the rising sun to shine through. Scarlet catches up with Destiny, who is dressed in a form fitting pale white unitard.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Destiny.
She turns around. She is young and pretty, with long blonde hair.
DESTINY ANGEL Captain.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Are you ok? You seemed... You seemed upset yesterday.
Destiny sighs.
DESTINY ANGEL It's just... You know how I used to feel about Black, and seeing him come back from the dead again... It's shocking.
CAPTAIN SCARLET It's not him. Black died on Mars.
DESTINY ANGEL I know... But that doesn't make it any less difficult.
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Do you want to go for a drink sometime?
DESTINY ANGEL (Suurprised) ...Here?
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Laughing) No, on the surface.
She smiles.
DESTINY ANGEL Sure. I'll file a request for a personal day. I need to get going though. See you around, Captain.
She walks away. Scarlet's smile falters for a moment.
CUT TO:
INT. GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER OFFICES - DAY
DANIEL AMBROSE, a young looking man with blonde hair, walks through the main door of the office in a jacket and jeans, a messenger bag slung over his shoulder. The office is a large, open plan room filled with journalists working at desks. The constant sound of phones RINGING fills the air.
Daniel walks to a desk adorned with plaque with his name and sits down, switching on the computer. He calls out to a woman on the desk next to him in a c*ckney accent.
DANIEL AMBROSE Michelle, have you heard anything more about Las Vegas?
MICHELLE It was a training exercise, Dan. There's no big conspiracy... Just get over it.
She gets up from her desk and walks towards a water cooler on the other side of the room. Daniel raises his eyebrows.
DANIEL AMBROSE (Muttering) We'll see about that.
He picks up his telephone and punches a number in.
DANIEL AMBROSE Johnny? It's Ambrose. How are you, you dumb bastard?
CUT TO:
INT. JOHNNY'S LIVING ROOM - DAY
JOHNNY HATTON, a muscular, handsome middle aged man with brown hair and a large jaw holds a mobile phone to his ear. His living room is enormous and lavishly decorated, with boxing memorabilia covering the walls. He is dressed in a crumpled tuxedo, and he looks like he hasn't showered for a while. He speaks in a middle class English accent.
JOHNNY HATTON What do you want, Danny?
DANIEL AMBROSE (Over phone) How was the poker tournament?
Johnny appears uneasy.
DANIEL AMBROSE (Unconvincingly) It was fine.
DANIEL AMBROSE (Over phone) Well, I know that's not true, because it was canceled. Why not tell me the truth and stop trying to lie?
CUT TO:
INT. GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER OFFICES - DAY
JOHNNY HATTON (Over phone) It was a training exercise. You know th-
DANIEL AMBROSE (Irritated) Oh, cut the crap. It's a bit of a coincidence that Sang had a heart attack in his sleep on the same day as a training exercise. Not to mention that a plane registered to the U.A.R. was destroyed at McCarran, or the damage done to city property.
JOHNNY HATTON (Over phone) Look, I'm not allowed to talk about this...
DANIEL AMBROSE I need this. I need an exclusive to get me some respect. Now, come on, I helped you. I faked the evidence for Blagden's drug scandal. You won that match by default, and you didn't have to take any punches. It's time you showed some bloody gratitude.
CUT TO:
INT. JOHNNY'S LIVING ROOM - DAY
DANIEL AMBROSE (Over phone) Now tell me... Was Sang at the poker tournament that day?
Johnny closes his eyes. A beat passes.
JOHNNY HATTON Yes.
CUT TO:
INT. GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER OFFICES - DAY
Daniel grins.
DANIEL AMBROSE That's my boy. So, the heart attack was a cover up... Just like the training exercise?
JOHNNY HATTON (Over phone) Look, all I know is that a bunch of guys in armour and a plane started shooting the place up, looking for Sang. But he disappeared. Then...
DANIEL AMBROSE Then what?
JOHNNY HATTON (Over phone) ... Well, a guy came in and got shot dead... But the next minute, he was up again, and fighting back. I guess he was with the government or something, but it was freaky.
Daniel's mouth hangs open slightly.
DANIEL AMBROSE He was dead... But he was alive again the next minute?
JOHNNY HATTON (Over phone) Yeah.
DANIEL AMBROSE You're sure about that?
JOHNNY HATTON (Over phone) Yes.
DANIEL AMBROSE You're sure you weren't seeing things because of the stress, or -
CUT TO:
INT. JOHNNY'S LIVING ROOM - DAY
JOHNNY HATTON Yes! I know what I saw!
DANIEL AMBROSE (Over phone) Do you have any information that would help me find him?
JOHNNY HATTON Well, I... I took a picture of him on my mobile. And... There was somebody who knew him who said his name out loud... I think it was... Phillip? No... Paul.
DANIEL AMBROSE (Over phone) Paul? No surname?
JOHNNY HATTON No, Danny. Sorry.
DANIEL AMBROSE (Over phone) It's ok, Johnny, you've done a great job. Just text the photo to me, and I'll do the rest.
CUT TO:
INT. GUARDIAN NEWSPAPER OFFICES - DAY
Daniel puts the phone down. A beat passes. His mouth slowly stretches into a sly grin.
DANIEL AMBROSE (Whispering) Paul...
CUT TO:
EXT. CLOUDBASE - DAY
A plane flies towards Cloudbase. The sky is blue and the clouds are perfectly white. It is a beautiful day.
COLONEL WHITE (V.O.) A personal day? Are you joking?
CUT TO:
INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
White sits behind his desk. Scarlet stands in front of it, his hands behind his back.
COLONEL WHITE Do you know how understaffed we are at the moment? We need every man we have.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Colonel, it's just one night.
White sighs.
COLONEL WHITE I'm sorry, Captain, but I just can't allow it. I'd have thought you'd be too anxious to track down Black to relax.
CAPTAIN SCARLET We all need our rest.
COLONEL WHITE I know... And I'm sorry... But you'll have to make plans for another day. I can't spare anybody right now.
A speaker on White's desk crackles to life, and Green's American accented voice is transmitted from it.
LIEUTENANT GREEN (Over speaker) Colonel, the Secretary of Defense is here.
COLONEL WHITE Already? Damn, I'd better get ready. Thank you, Lieutenant. I'm sorry, Captain, but I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to leave.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Not unless you authorise my personal day.
COLONEL WHITE I beg your pardon?
CAPTAIN SCARLET You heard me.
White slowly stands up and walks from around his desk to face Scarlet. White looks carefully at his face.
COLONEL WHITE ...There's something different about you...
Scarlet smirks.
COLONEL WHITE (Angrily) Don't you DARE talk to me like that ever again, Captain. You need to remember who's in command here.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I know all too well.
COLONEL WHITE (Angrily) Well, maybe your superiors at Scotland Yard ignored your insubordinations, but I won't.
A beat passes.
COLONEL WHITE Fine. Have your personal day.
White moves back around his desk and sits down.
COLONEL WHITE Relax. Enjoy yourself. Clear your head. But when you come back, Captain, I want you fit for duty. If you ever again act like you have just now, I'll dismiss you so fast -
CAPTAIN SCARLET You'll never get rid of me as long as I'm invincible. I have tenure. So why don't you just let it go?
Scarlet walks out of the office, a smug smile on his face, leaving White fuming. Green enters.
LIEUTENANT GREEN Colonel? Mr Anderson is waiting.
COLONEL WHITE (Angrily) I'll be there in a second.
LIEUTENANT GREEN Is everything alright, Colonel?
White sighs.
COLONEL WHITE It seems Captain Scarlet has fallen from grace.
LIEUTENANT GREEN What do you mean?
COLONEL WHITE I'm not sure. Over the last few months, he's seemed so... so irritable, so miserable.
LIEUTENANT GREEN We're all stressed, Colonel.
COLONEL WHITE He seems to be dealing with it the wrong way... Something is different about him... and I don't like it.

INT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
The room is dark and dank. It is plainly furnished, with white washed walls, a bed and a dresser table. The shadowy form of Captain Black sits on the bed, typing into a laptop.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) Have you completed your assignment?
Black speaks in an English accent.
CAPTAIN BLACK Yes.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) Then it is only a matter of time before the surgeon is called upon.
CAPTAIN BLACK Yes. I've given him his instructions.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) Excellent. Soon, there will be nobody remaining who wishes to interfere with our plans.

INT. MOTEL CORRIDOR - NIGHT
The corridor is also dark and squalid. The only light comes from underneath We slowly PULL backwards.
CUT TO:
EXT. NEW SCOTLAND YARD - DAY
The New Scotland Yard building is a large, twenty floor London building. In the distance, Big Ben can be seen and heard ringing to signify that it is three o' clock.
CUT TO:
INT. COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE
COMMISSIONER ROWAN, a balding, red headed man with a short, stocky build sits at his desk, writing. A KNOCK on the door sounds.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Come in.
His femae ASSISTANT enters the room.
COMMISSIONER'S ASSISTANT Sir, there's a writer from The Guardian here to see you.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Send him in.
Assistant walks out, and a few moments later, Daniel enters with his messenger bag.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Ambrose? What does a scumbag like you want to talk to me about?
DANIEL AMBROSE Good afternoon to you too, Commissioner.
Without asking for permission, Daniel sits down in front of the desk.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN (Smirking) I'm astounded That Guardian hasn't gotten rid of you yet. I'd have thought the mindless gossip you peddle would be more suited to the tabloid rags.
DANIEL AMBROSE Well, that's why I'm here, Commissioner. I'm working on a big story... A serious story.
He pulls a voice recorder out from his bag and lays it down on the table, pressing a button to start it recording. He then pulls out a photograph and hands it to Rowan.
DANIEL AMBROSE Recognise him?
Rowan frowns deeply. The picture is of Scarlet in the casino, his shirt bloodied.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN No. I've never seen him before.
DANIEL AMBROSE Really?
Rowan nods uneasily. Daniel retrieves a file from his bag and begins reading it.
DANIEL AMBROSE Because it says here that Paul Metcalfe worked for you for six years before mysteriously disappearing last year.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Paul Metcalfe isn't exactly a popular name around here. I'd be careful mentioning him.
DANIEL AMBROSE Why?
Rowan presses a button on the recorder, stopping it from capturing the conversation.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Because some people here think that Metcalfe turned traitor. He and another agent were assigned to pick the President up from Heathrow and take him to Brighton for a conference. We think that when the airport bomb didn't kill the target, they improvised and took him hostage in the car. Now, while this was happening, we found a burnt-out shell of a limo in a forest that had gone offroad... the two bodies inside were too charred to formally identify, but there were papers inside belonging to Metcalfe and his colleague. They've gone on record as dead, but it doesn't stop the rumours... Some of our more... outspoken officers think Metcalfe may have faked his death to provide himself with an alibi.
DANIEL AMBROSE What do you think happened?
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Me? I knew Metcalfe. He was rough around the edges, but he was a good man. I think whatever terrorist cell blew up Heathrow and the Car-Vu killed him and Peterson and assumed their identities to get close to Winters. It's not exactly hard to find a company issue car; they're not custom made. No, I think Paul has been dead for a yea-
DANIEL AMBROSE (Interrupting) Do you know when this photograph was taken?
COMMISSIONER ROWAN When?
DANIEL AMBROSE Last week.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN (Incredulously) What are you talking about?
DANIEL AMBROSE Commissioner, I have reason to believe that Paul Metcalfe is still alive and working with some kind of black ops agency. He was at the MGM Grand the other day, fighting the hostage takers.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Hostage takers? But it was a -
DANIEL AMBROSE (Interrupting) Do you honestly believe that?
A beat pases.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Let's say you're right. Let's say that, by some stretch of the imagination, Metcalfe is still alive. What do you want with him?
DANIEL AMBROSE I just want to talk to him. I'm working on a story about the Vegas incident, and I need to know where he fits in.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Well, that's too bad. If he is still alive, then a man I trusted went rogue and tried to kill Winters. He abused my trust. He undermined the integrity of this police force. He blew up the airport and killed thousands of people, destroyed the Car-Vu and killed hundreds more. If this man is still alive, Ambrose, then I want to bring the bastard in myself, and I can't do that if you're screaming bloody murder in the papers.
DANIEL AMBROSE I thought you'd say something like that. How about this... If you track him down for me so I can talk to him with no interference... Then I'll turn him in afterwards. Word's out that you're retiring next year. Solving a big case like this would get you a nice fat leaving bonus, maybe even a medal. Imagine being the one man who succeeded where everyone else has failed.
Rowan appears deep in thought.
DANIEL AMBROSE Deal?
A beat passes. Rowan nods.
COMMISSIONER ROWAN Deal.

INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
ROBERT ANDERSON, a tall man with greying black hair and a sharp nose, sits in front of White's desk. He is dressed in a dark blue suit with a white shirt and a black tie. He speaks in an American accent.
ROBERT ANDERSON I'm sorry we didn't get started until today. I wanted to spend time inspecting the base when I got here, and it took longer than expected.
COLONEL WHITE It's not a problem, Mr. Anderson.
ROBERT ANDERSON Isn't it? A world leader is dead, Colonel. How did you let it happen?
COLONEL WHITE I assure you, we tried our absolute be -
ROBERT ANDERSON (Interrupting) Your best clearly isn't good enough.
Robert gets up from his chair and turns to face out of the glass wall, surveying the control center.
COLONEL WHITE Robert, need I remind you of what we're up against?
ROBERT ANDERSON I know what we're up against, Colonel. I'm the Secretary of Defense. It's my job to know what we're up against.
He turns to face White.
ROBERT ANDERSON It's also my job to assess whether Spectrum is a viable military agency anymore.
COLONEL WHITE That's not your decision. We're independent of any -
ROBERT ANDERSON We pony up almost all of the funding you need to keep this thing in the sky. You're U.S. property, despite what ideas and ideologies you may have that suggest otherwise.
A beat passes.
ROBERT ANDERSON You need to show me exactly why I should recommend to President Winters that you're worth the money.
Robert begins coughing violently and wheezing. He remove an inhaler from his trouser pocket and takes a puff from it.
COLONEL WHITE Are you alright?
ROBERT ANDERSON (Weakly) I'm fine.
Robert gives one last cough and replaces the inhaler in his pocket.
ROBERT ANDERSON Excuse me. Now, where were we?

EXT. LONDON CITY AIRPORT - NIGHT
Scarlet and Destiny emerge from the exit of the arrivals building. Scarlet is dressed in a black suit with a dark blue button up shirt, open at the collar, and Destiny is dressed in a black dress. Scarlet hails a taxi, and they clamber inside, the vehicle driving away. Fifty feet away, a black car springs to life, the headlights flashing on.
CUT TO:
INT. BLACK CAR - NIGHT
A BALD MAN steers his vehicle to follow the taxi. Taped above the windshield is the photograph of Scarlet at the casino.
BALD MAN Got you.
CUT TO:
INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
Files on Sang and his death cover White's desk as White and Robert inspect them.
COLONEL WHITE I didn't know he was such a strong supporter of funding new moon missions.
ROBERT ANDERSON You're kidding. He never shut up about those damn moon missions. I had a drink with him once on Air Force One, and it was all he'd talk about.
COLONEL WHITE Did you agree with him?
ROBERT ANDERSON Well, sure, I think we need to look for energy where ever we can find it, but he was obsessed.
A beat passes.
ROBERT ANDERSON Enough of changing the topic, I want to see the details of the assassination attempt on Sang in his hotel room.
Robert coughs again. He takes another puff from his inhaler.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON WINE BAR - NIGHT
The black car sits parked opposite an expensive looking wine bar.
CUT TO:
INT. BLACK CAR - NIGHT
Bald Man dials a number on his mobile phone and holds it close to his ear.
BALD MAN I've got him. He's in a wine bar just around the corner from Victoria Station.
DANIEL AMBROSE (Over phone) Good work, mate. I'll be along soon.
Bald Man hangs up.
CUT TO:
INT. LONDON WINE BAR - NIGHT
Destiny laughs at a joke as the pair sit at a table in the bar, a bottle of red wine in the center of the table. Scarlet pours them each a glass, and downs half of his in one sip. Destiny continues laughing, albeit more nervously.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Mmm, that's good. Best place in London, this.
DESTINY ANGEL I've never been.
She smiles.
DESTINY ANGEL So, what's the occasion?
Scarlet slowly smiles, as if he had not thought about it.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Heh, uh... Well, we've known each other for a while now... Maybe we should talk to each other on a first name basis.
DESTINY ANGEL (Surprised) Are you... Are you sure? It's against pro-
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Interrupting) It's against protocol, yeah, yeah. Do you honestly care?
DESTINY ANGEL (Grinning) Juliette. Juliette Pontoin.
CAPTAIN SCARLET That doesn't sound American at all.
Scarlet finishes his glass and pours himself another one. Destiny takes her first sip.
DESTINY ANGEL It's not. I'm French by birth, but we came to live here when I was two years old.
CAPTAIN SCARLET We?
DESTINY ANGEL My family. My parents.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Do you still talk to them?
DESTINY ANGEL (Surprised) No... Why would I?
CAPTAIN SCARLET ... Well... Aren't they still alive?
DESTINY ANGEL Yeah. But to join Spectrum, you have to sever all ties with family and friends - international security issues. Didn't you have to do that?
CAPTAIN SCARLET I didn't have that problem. My parents died when I was six. Plane crash.
DESTINY ANGEL (Sympathetic) I'm sorry.
Scarlet shrugs and downs his wine glass. Destiny appears slightly taken aback.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I don't mind... It was such a long time ago. Do you miss your parents?
DESTINY ANGEL Well, yeah, of course.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Then why do you do this? Why not get a normal job and stay in touch with them?
DESTINY ANGEL Because... Because somebody has to do the job. Why shouldn't it be me?
CAPTAIN SCARLET ...I guess you're right.
CUT TO:
INT. BLACK CAR - NIGHT
Bald Man sits asleep in his car seat. Daniel knocks on the window, waking him up.
DANIEL AMBROSE (From outside car) Are they still in there?
BALD MAN Huh? Oh... Yeah, should be.
DANIEL AMBROSE (From outside car) Ok, you can head home now.
BALD MAN What?
DANIEL AMBROSE I said you can head home now.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON WINE BAR - NIGHT
Bald Man opens the car door and steps out onto the pavement.
BALD MAN If I leave, who's going to bring him in?
DANIEL AMBROSE Me.
Bald Man laughs.
BALD MAN You? Like the Commissioner would allow it.
DANIEL AMBROSE Why not ask him yourself?
Bald Man stops laughing and appears to be thinking. He nods defiantly.
BALD MAN Ok. Fine. But if he gets away...
DANIEL AMBROSE He won't.
Bald Man pulls a pistol out from inside his jacket and hands it to Daniel, who puts it in the waistband of his trousers.
BALD MAN Just in case.
Bald Man climbs back into the car, which starts up and drives away. Daniel sits down on a bench facing the bar, staring at the building hungrily.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CORRIDOR - NIGHT
White and Robert walk briskly down the corridor.
ROBERT ANDERSON I want a full background check on everybody in this place. We need to know if anybody leaked details of Sang's fl... fli...
Robert pinches the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger.
COLONEL WHITE What's wrong?
ROBERT ANDERSON It's my head... It's killing me...
Robert begins wheezing, clutching at his chest.
ROBERT ANDERSON (Wheezing) Oh my God...
White crouches down by Robert's side and presses a button on his headset.
COLONEL WHITE Get Doctor Fawn to come to Corridor F4! The Secretary is sick!
He looks nervously and desperately at Robert.
COLONEL WHITE Hold on...
CUT TO:
INT. LONDON WINE BAR - NIGHT
The first wine bottle sits empty on the table, while Scarlet sits with a second in his hand, which is a quarter full. Destiny appears displeased and uncomfortable, sitting very stiffly in her chair. The bar is almost empty. Scarlet's speech is incredibly slurred - he is heavily drunk.
CAPTAIN SCARLET And that's why, y'know, I think he... Do you want some more of this?
He weakly shakes the bottle in his hand.
DESTINY ANGEL (Quietly) No thanks.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Suit yourself.
He pours the rest into his glass and begins drinking from it.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Christ, I can't wait until we get our hands on Black. I'm going to break his bloody neck myself for what he did to Grey. I'm gonna... I'm gonna bloody kill him. And when he comes back to life... I'll kill him again.
Destiny's face twitches peculiarly, as if she is attempting to prevent herself from crying. A WAITER walks past.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Oi, get us another bottle of red.
WAITER I'm sorry sir, but I think you've had -
Scarlet grabs Waiter's tie and pulls him in cloe.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Angrily) I SAID get us another bottle.
WAITER (Worriedly) Sir, if we gave you anything more to drink, we'll be liable for anything that might happen to you.
Scarlet lets go, and Waiter scurries away. Destiny appears shocked and mortified. Scarlet notices this and screws up his face in frustration.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Angrily) Oh, what are you looking at?
DESTINY ANGEL Why are you being like this?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Being like what?
DESTINY ANGEL You know what.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Angrily) No, I don't. So why don't you tell me?
A beat passes.
DESTINY ANGEL I don't think I should be here.
She gets up to leaves, and makes to walk past Scarlet. He grabs her forearm, gripping it tightly.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where are you going?
DESTINY ANGEL (Indignantly) Let go of my arm.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Angrily) Sit down.
Destiny wrenches her arm free.
DESTINY ANGEL I don't know what's happened to you lately. It's like... Like you're a different person. I don't even know why I agreed to come out with you in the state you're in. I'm going to the airport. You... do what you like here, and get there in time for the flight.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Blame me all you like... It won't bring Conrad back.
A tear rolls down Destiny's cheek. She walks swiftly to the door and out into the street without looking back.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON WINE BAR - NIGHT
Destiny steps onto the pavement and quickly walks around the corner. Daniel smiles with glee, takes a deep, nervous breath, and stands up, walking forwards towards the entrance of the bar.
INT. CLOUDBASE MEDICAL WING
Robert lies in a hospital bed, unconscious, with a respirator covering his mouth. A nearby monitor BLEEPS regularly, representing his pulse. DOCTOR FAWN, a brown haired Australian in his forties, stands by the bedside. White sits in a chair.
DOCTOR FAWN I... He's been poisoned. The medicine in his inhaler contained traces of arsenic, and it's destroyed his left lung.
COLONEL WHITE Does he need a transplant?
DOCTOR FAWN Yes... But he can't have one. None of my staff are qualified for that sort of procedure.
COLONEL WHITE (Incredulously) What on Earth are you talking about? You're a medical department!
DOCTOR FAWN (Tensely) Well, maybe I'd be more prepared for something like this if my department weren't so under budgeted.
A beat passes.
DOCTOR FAWN Look, there's a surgeon I used to work with on the surface, in Scotland. Roger Nicholson. He's the best man for this job. I can get him here within two hours, and he can bring the donor lung with him.
COLONEL WHITE Can we trust him?
DOCTOR FAWN I'd trust him with my own life.
White rubs his temple in thought.
COLONEL WHITE How long does he have?
DOCTOR FAWN At the rate his lung is deteriorating... I'd say four to five hours.
White sighs.
COLONEL WHITE Contact Dr. Nicholson. Get him and the lung up here as soon as possible. We need to keep this man alive... Or he'll be the second politician to die under our care in a week.
DOCTOR FAWN Yes, Colonel.
Fawn moves quickly out of the room. White closes his eyes and puts is head in his hands.
CUT TO:
INT. LONDON WINE BAR - NIGHT
Scarlet stumbles to the bar and places a note on the wooden surface. Waiter nervously nods and opens the cash register, looking for the correct change.
Daniel enters through the door and slowly moves to stand next to Scarlet at the bar.
DANIEL AMBROSE Nice place.
Scarlet grunts. Daniel smirks.
DANIEL AMBROSE But you know where the best bars are? Vegas. Amaziing place.
Scarlet's eyes narrow in confusion and suspicion. He turns to face Daniel.
DANIEL AMBROSE You ever been?
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I.... think you've got me mixed up with somebody else.
He looks back to the Waiter.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Keep the change.
Scarlet turns and walks quickly towards the door.
CUT TO:
EXT. LONDON WINE BAR - NIGHT
Scarlet steps out onto the street, Daniel following.
DANIEL AMBROSE Except... You know I haven't.
Scarlet turns quickly into a dark alleyway, walking briskly. Daniel follows him.
DANIEL AMBROSE Come on, Metcalfe, don't be like this.
Scarlet turns around, grabs Ambrose by his jacket lapels and slams him against a brick wall.
DANIEL AMBROSE You don't want to do -
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where the hell did you get that name? Who are you?
DANIEL AMBROSE I just want to talk.
Bald Man appears in the entrance of the alley. He presses a button on his Bluetooth headset.
BALD MAN (Into headset) I knew this would happen! Go! Go!
He begins running down the alley. From the other end of the alley, POLICE THUG runs towards Scarlet, who lets go of Ambrose.
Bald Man throws a punch at Scarlet, who ducks to the side and dodges it. He kicks Bald Man in the stomach. Bald Man bends over double, and Scarlet kicks him in the face, knocking him backwards and to the ground, groaning and clutching his broken nose.
Police Thug, meanwhile, has pulled out a pistol, and begins raising it to aim it at Scarlet. Scarlet grabs his hands and raises them above both of them, the gun firing twice into the air before he headbutts Police Thug in the face and kicks him in the knee, causing a loud CRACK to signify the breaking of bones. Police Thug falls to the ground grabbing at his knee and moaning in agony.
A metallic CLICK sounds from behind Scarlet. He turns around to see Daniel holding aiming his pistol at him, his hands shaking.
DANIEL AMBROSE It's funny what a few hours in a bar can do. You can fight off a couple of thugs, but even I can get the drop on you.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What do you want?
DANIEL AMBROSE Answers. I want to know why you didn't die when you fell of the Car-Vu. I want to know how you survived a gunshot in Vegas. I want to know who the hell you're working for.
CAPTAIN SCARLET How do you know about those things?
DANIEL AMBROSE I'm the one asking the questions, not -
CAPTAIN SCARLET Who are these people?
Daniel appears disappointed in being ignored.
DANIEL AMBROSE ...Just friends. I thought I'd need backup.
His hands begin shaking even more violently.
CAPTAIN SCARLET You've never used a gun before, have you?
Daniel appears surprised and questioning.
CAPTAIN SCARLET You haven't even taken the safety off.
DANIEL AMBROSE Shut up!
A beat passes. Daniel glances at the side of the gun to check the safety, letting his guard down. Scarlet pounces, grabbing the gun and twisting it upwards in Ambrose's hands, causing his index finger to snap backwards grotesquely with an audible SNAP. Daniel screams out in pain. Scarlet then punches him in the face.
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
Daniel begins to fall backwards from the force of the punch, but the back of his head collides with a brick jutting out of the wall.
EFFECT: NORMAL MOTION
Daniel slumps to the ground, eyes closed. He does not move. Scarlet crouches over him.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Come on, get up.
He puts two fingers on Daniel's neck to check his pulse. Scarlet's face falls, and he appears devastatingly scared.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Oh God...
He stands up, walking backwards while still staring at Daniel, and then turns around and runs down the alley at a breakneck speed.

INT. CLOUDBASE ARRIVAL ROOM
A glass capsule rises through an orifice in the floor, surrounded by a fence. A hatch slides open, and ROGER NICHOLSON steps out, holding a large cool-box in one hand. He is tall and thin, with a wrinkled face and thinning brown hair. His face is pale, and he has noticeable shadows underneath his eyes. Fawn approaches, grinning and extending his hand.
DOCTOR FAWN Nicholson!
Nicholson smiles and shakes his hand.
ROGER NICHOLSON Fawn! Good to see you! Where is he?
DOCTOR FAWN This way.
They walk out of the room.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CONTROL CENTER
Scarlet walks into the room, looking worse for wear. Through the glass wall of his office, a furious looking White sees him and beckons for him to enter. Scarlet walks towards the office.
CUT TO:
INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
Scarlet enters through the door. White stands up.
COLONEL WHITE (Angrily) Close the door.
Scarlet does so.
COLONEL WHITE (Shouting) What on Earth is wrong with you?
Scarlet remains silent.
COLONEL WHITE (Shouting) Getting drunk while off duty and getting into a bar fight? Did you think I wouldn't find out? I bet you don't even know who you fought!
Scarlet looks at the ground.
COLONEL WHITE (Shouting) Two of those men were Scotland Yard employees! Police officers! And the other one was a journalist, until you put him into a deep coma! Well, I'm sorry, but if he dies, there's no way I'll protect you. I'll throw you to the wolves.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CONTROL CENTER
The room is silent as the personnel all sit and watch what is going on inside the office, Whites shouting muffled by the glass.
CUT TO:
INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
COLONEL WHITE (Shouting) How could you be so stupid?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Colonel, I... I...
White sniffs the air.
COLONEL WHITE You reek of alcohol...
An awkward silence passes.
COLONEL WHITE The day Sang died... The day you were late showing up at the casino... Where were you?
Scarlet is silent.
COLONEL WHITE What were you doing that put innocent lives at risk, just like tonight?
A beat passes.
COLONEL WHITE Captain Scarlet, I'm hereby suspending you from active duty and stripping you of your rank as Cap-
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Angrily) Oh, don't be stupid.
White's face becomes red and enraged.
COLONEL WHITE (Shouting) Don't be stupid? Don't be stupid? You've put an innocent man in a coma tonight, because you couldn't tell when you'd had enough! Your indulgence cost a police officer the use of his leg, and quite possibly the life of a high-profile journalist. How am I meant to keep you on duty when you bring Spectrum into the public eye like this?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Spectrum's got nothing to do with this, it was me.
COLONEL WHITE (Angrily) You ARE Spectrum. Whatever you may think, you're not the person you were before. You belong to us. And if I can't count on your skill or your judgment or your intelligence because you're off in some seedy bar drinking yourself into an early grave, then you're only as good to me as the number of bullets you can soak up.
Scarlet grits his teeth.
COLONEL WHITE And if I can't even count on you to turn up and do that, then you're a liability I can't afford.
A long silence passes. The door opens, and Fawn and Roger enter.
DOCTOR FAWN Colonel, this is Doctor Nicholson.
Colonel White moves around his desk to shake his hand.
COLONEL WHITE It's good to meet you. I'm sorry we had to call you up here on such short notice.
ROGER NICHOLSON It's no problem, I'm just glad I can help.
Scarlet winces slightly and pinches the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes.
COLONEL WHITE How long do you need to prepare?
ROGER NICHOLSON I'll be ready to operate in half an hour.
COLONEL WHITE Excellent.
ROGER NICHOLSON I'll go and get started.
Roger and Fawn leave the room. Scarlet opens his eyes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Who's he?
COLONEL WHITE The Secretary of Defense was poisoned, and needs a lung transplant. Doctor Nicholson flew up here to perform the operation.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I don't think he's... We can't trust him.
White laughs coldly.
COLONEL WHITE That's rich, coming from you. Why not?
CAPTAIN SCARLET I think he's a Mysteron.
COLONEL WHITE ...You really are drunk.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I'm not fooling around! I just got the same headache I get whenever I'm around any Mysteron. I'm telling you, he's here to kill Anderson!
White appears to think.
COLONEL WHITE Are you absolutely sure?
CAPTAIN SCARLET I'm certain.
COLONEL WHITE We can't detain him without being sure... He could be carrying a bomb. We're right over London. If he destroys Cloudbase...
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I've got an idea.

CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE OPERATING THEATRE
The theatre is dark and sterile, with a large spotlight being shone on Anderson. Anderson is almost completely covered by a medical sheet, the only area of him visible being his torso, which lies open having been surgically cut. His organs are visible. A scrubs-clad Nicholson stands over the gurney Anderson lies on, a surgical mask covering his face. An ASSISTANT DOCTOR hands him a scalpel.
ROGER NICHOLSON I am now making the first incision to the primary bronchi...
He lowers the scalpel towards the lungs, but overreaches and cuts into the trachea, slicing it in half.
ASSISTANT DOCTOR Oh my God! What the hell is wrong with you? You've cut his trachea! There's no way he's going to live now!
A constant BEEEEEP of a monitor alerts the two to the death of Anderson.
ROGER NICHOLSON My hand... My hand must have shaken... My God...
The door slides open and Colonel White walks in, flanked by Blue, Green and two S.A.T. operatives.
COLONEL WHITE Roger Nicholson, I'm placing you under arrest for the attempted murder of Robert Anderson and collusion with enemies of the Earth.
The S.A.T. agents aim their assault rifles at Nicholson.
ROGER NICHOLSON What on Earth are you talking about? It was a mistake! My hand must have shaken!
White moves to stand directly in front of him, staring him in the eyes.
COLONEL WHITE Hold still.
White quickly passes a small device over Nicholson's face, a blue light scanning his eyes. The device BEEPS.
COLONEL WHITE No point in denying it now. You're a Mysteron.
Nicholson begins laughing maliciously, pulling his surgical mask from off his face.
ROGER NICHOLSON And what can you do about it now? Robert Anderson is dead, and any damage you try to do to me will correct itself in...
Nicholson's grin falters.
ROGER NICHOLSON ...ATTEMPTED murder?
COLONEL WHITE It wasn't Robert Anderson who you killed.
The figure on the gurney rises up behind Nicholson, still covered by the sheet, and grabs him, throwing him against a wall. Scarlet rips the sheet off himself, revealing his bare, fully healed chest and a pair of light green hospital trousers. He kicks Nicholson in the face.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where is Conrad Turner?
Nicholson spits blood in Scarlet's face. Green gestures for the S.A.T. agents to leave the room. Scarlet slams Nicholson's head against the wall, cracking the tiling.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where is Captain Black?
Nicholson remains silent.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Well then... I'm going to have to force it out of you.
He paces across the room to a defibrillator on a wheeled cabinet and pushes it, sending it sliding along the floor smashing into Nicholson. Scarlet grabs the two pads and pushes them together, causing a massive blue electrical spark to light the room. He grins maliciously at Nicholson.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Let's get creative.
Scarlet makes a punching gesture at Nicholson, touching one of the pads against his face. Nicholson jumps into the air, screaming, before landing in a heap, clutching his burnt face.
CAPTAIN SCARLET See? Not enough to kill you... But enough to cause you more pain than you can imagine.
Scarlet lightly presses the pad against Nicholson's face again, producing an identical result.
COLONEL WHITE Captain!
Scarlet does it again.
COLONEL WHITE Scarlet, stand down!
Scarlet ignores him and crouches down to face Nicholson.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Alright, you Mysteron scumbag, I'm only going to ask you once. Where is Captain Black?
Nicholson doesn't say a word. Scarlet punches both pads into his face at once, but does not remove them. Nicholson's body buckles with the energy. Smoke begins to emerge from under the pads, which slowly becomes thicker and blacker.
Blue and Green grab Scarlet by the arms and pull him away from Nicholson, the pads dropping to the floor. Scarlet shakes them off and storms out of the room. All that is left of the Mysteron agent is a blackened, charred, smoking corpse. White observes the scene with a look of horror on his face.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE MEDICAL WING
Fawn observes a clipboard as Scarlet perches at the end of a gurney.
DOCTOR FAWN Well, there's no sign of liver cirrhosis. But that's not surprising, considering your... talents.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Well? Are there any other signs?
Fawn looks up from the clipboard.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Why are you here? Did Colonel White tell you to come for this test?
CAPTAIN SCARLET No... I'm here because I want to be.
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Because I need to know.
Fawn sighs.
DOCTOR FAWN There isn't any physical evidence of alcoholism... But like I said, there wouldn't be. My guess is that it's a... mental dependence.
Blue enters the cubicle, knocking on the wall.
DOCTOR FAWN Captain. What can I do for you?
CAPTAIN BLUE Could you give us a minute alone, please?
Fawn looks at Scarlet, who nods, and leaves the room.
CAPTAIN BLUE Destiny told me what happened in London...
Blue sits down on a chair to face Scarlet.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I know. I was... I was a...
CAPTAIN BLUE Whatever word you're thinking of... You were worse than that.
Scarlet looks up at Blue, who is smiling ever so slightly. Scarlet chuckles shortly, before appearing depressed again.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I know.
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN BLUE So... So why were you late getting to the casino?
Scarlet sighs.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I wasn't late. I was in the building.
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I was at the bar. If I hadn't been late, then maybe Grey wouldn't have...
Scarlet hangs his head, looking shameful.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Over the last year... If you were tired, or stressed... How did you relax?
CAPTAIN SCARLET I... drank.
CAPTAIN BLUE Do you think you're an alcoholic?
Scarlet sighs.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Technically? No. I don't need to drink to survive.
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET But I don't know what I'd do if I didn't.
There is a long silence.
CAPTAIN BLUE Then the addiction is just mental. Nothing more.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What do you mean?
CAPTAIN BLUE What I mean is... Look, just think about this. Did it solve anything? Did drinking make your problems go away?
CAPTAIN SCARLET No... It made them worse. I've... hurt people close to me.
CAPTAIN BLUE As long as you realise that now... As long as you remember it... Then you won't need to worry about repeating the mistakes you've made. You're a good man, Paul. One of the best I've ever met. But you've had it rough... You were thrown head first into this war, and who knows what dying so many times in one lifetime can do to a good man... The alcohol gave you an escape. I understand. You didn't know it would turn you into somebody else.
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN BLUE But you can't use that as an excuse. You need to stop drinking, or you'll have nobody but yourself to blame for what might happen.
Scarlet smiles slightly, and nods. White storms into the cubicle.
COLONEL WHITE (Shouting) What the hell was that? Have you lost your mind?
CAPTAIN SCARLET I had...
Scarlet stands up.
CAPTAIN SCARLET But I've found it again. I'm sorry for my behaviour, Colonel. For everything I've done.
An awkward silence passes. White appears to calm down, and looks sympathetic.
COLONEL WHITE Yes, well... I... accept your apology. And I apologise myself... I should have realised what was happening to you long before now... The good news is that it's looking likely that Daniel Ambrose is going to wake up, and we've already got another surgeon on the way to operate on the Secretary of Defense.
A beat passes. White appears uneasy.
CAPTAIN SCARLET There's something else, isn't there?
White sighs.
COLONEL WHITE We found this in Nicholson's trouser pocket.
He holds out a matchbook, printed with a logo for 'Die Kaiserhostel.
COLONEL WHITE It's a small motel on the outskirts of Munich. Either Nicholson visited it before he was killed and reconstructed, or -
CAPTAIN BLUE Or he went there afterwards.
CAPTAIN SCARLET ...To meet with Captain Black.
COLONEL WHITE There's a chance we could have him this time. A stealth S.A.T. is leaving in ten minutes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I'm going with them.
White and Blue turn to look at Scarlet with mild alarm.
COLONEL WHITE Are you sure that's a good idea in your... condition?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Trust me, the thought of catching Black's sobered me up.
White sighs.
COLONEL WHITE Well, it would help to have a senior officer going with the team... I'm reinstating your rank as Captain. Let's hope you do it justice this time.
Scarlet grins.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I won't let you down, Colonel.
CUT TO:
EXT. SKY - NIGHT
A black stealth plane flies through the sky. The back hatch of it slowly opens.
CUT TO:
INT. STEALTH PLANE - NIGHT
Wind rushes into the plane. Four S.A.T. agents, with sleeker and less chunky armour than their regular counterparts and green visors, sit helmeted on seats bolted to the walls. Scarlet, dressed in similar armour, winces as the wind hits his face and places his helmet over his head. His visor is a dark red.
A red light near the open hatch turns yellow with a BLEEP. The men stand up, forming a queue in front of the gaping void. Scarlet joins the back of the line. When standing, it is easy to see that all five men are wearing bulky backpacks. The light turns green with another BLEEP. The first S.A.T. agents runs to the edge of the ramp and dives off.
CUT TO:
EXT. SKY - NIGHT
One by one, the four S.A.T. agents dive out of the plane and topple downwards through the sky.
CUT TO:
INT. STEALTH PLANE - NIGHT
Scarlet tilts his head upwards slightly, as if taking a deep breath, and leaps out of the plane.
CUT TO:
EXT. SKY - NIGHT
All five men fall downwards head first. After roads become visible through the clouds, they each pull a rip cord on their backpack straps, releasing black parachutes. They glide through the air in the direction of an open field.
CUT TO:
EXT. FIELD - NIGHT
The S.A.T. agents and Scarlet land in crouching positions in the order they jumped out of the plane in, quickly detaching their parachutes from their backpacks as they do so. The five quickly remove their backpacks, place them on the ground in front of them, and retrieve silenced M4 assault rifles. Scarlet checks a compass set into the back of his right glove, and gestures silently to the west. The squad quickly begins running in this direction.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOTEL - NIGHT
Scarlet and the S.A.T. reach the crest of a hill, happening across a thin road and a dilapidated three story building - Die Kaiserhostel. The five men run across the road and press their backs to the wall near the front door. Scarlet reaches out with his arm and tries to push it open, but it is locked. He speaks, his voice crackly over the radio.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Over radio) Set the charge.
One S.A.T. agent reaches into a compartment in his armour and retrieves a small amount of a plastic-like substance. He moulds it in his gloved hands and applies it to the door lock. He then presses himself against the wall in his original position, and presses a button set into his glove. The charge explodes quietly, destroying the lock. Scarlet pushes the door open, and they all move swiftly inside.
CUT TO:
INT. MOTEL LOBBY
The lobby is small and cramped, with only a main front desk, a sofa and a coffee table. A single lit lamp on the desk glows warmly. Scarlet goes to the desk and removes a book from the top of it, flicking through the pages.
STEALTH S.A.T. AGENT (Over radio) Captain, what are you doing?
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Over radio) It's the customer ledger... Here. Conrad Turner, top floor, Room 25. That smug bastard didn't even use an alias. Shriner, you and Williams go outside to the fusebox and cut the power on my signal. The rest of you, follow me.
Scarlet runs to the stairs, followed by two S.A.T. agents. The remaining agents run out of the front door.
CUT TO:
INT. MOTEL CORRIDOR - NIGHT
Scarlet reaches the top of the stairs, and begins moving quickly and quietly down the corridor, flanked by the two S.A.T. agents. Light seeps out from underneath certain doors, and jazz music plays loudly from one of the rooms.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Whispering, over radio) It's the room at the end. Shriner, cut the power.
CUT TO:
INT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
The lamp switches off suddenly, and the jazz music from the neighboring room stops. Black looks up from his laptop, which is still running on it's battery. A quiet CREAK can be heard from outside the room. Black's eyes widen and he quickly rips the back plate off of the laptop, wrenching out the hard disk. He stands up from the bed and pulls out a pistol, aiming it at the door.
CUT TO:
INT. MOTEL CORRIDOR - NIGHT
Scarlet and the agents creep slowly towards Room 25. Suddenly, with a BLAM, a bullet rips through the wooden door and penetrates the visor of one of the S.A.T. agents, who silently falls to the ground. The other crouches down near his body, checking to see if he is still alive.
STEALTH S.A.T. AGENT Oh my God... Rick! Rick!
CAPTAIN SCARLET BLACK!
Scarlet runs towards the door and slams into it with his shoulder, riping it from it's hinges and knocking it into the room.
CUT TO:
INT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHT
Scarlet stumbles into the room, firing his rifle at the bed - but nobody is there. He pulls off his helmet and sees that the window is open, the curtains flowing in the wind. The sound of a car engine starting up can be heard from below. Scarlet takes a deep breath and runs towards the open window, diving out.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOTEL CARPARK - NIGHT
Scarlet lands on the ground three floors below with a painful THUD, cracking the concrete beneath him. He slowly gets to his feet, moaning in pain. Suddenly, a light blue car slams into him, knocking him over the top. Scarlet grabs onto a railing on the top of the car, meant for attaching luggage to, and holds on for dear life, gritting his teeth.
CUT TO:
INT. BLACK'S CAR - NIGHT
Black looks up with a look of frustration at the fact that he has not gotten rid of Scarlet.
CUT TO:
EXT. GERMAN ROAD - NIGHT
The car swerves into the road and speeds forwards. With his one free hand, Scarlet presses a button on his headset.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Shouting) Scarlet to Cloudbase! I'm in pursuit, and I need assistance!
COLONEL WHITE (Over radio) S.I.G., Captain. Angels are inbound on your position now.
CUT TO:
INT. DESTINY'S JET - NIGHT
Destiny sits in the cockpit of a sleek white fighter jet. She is dressed in her unitard and a white helmet with a black visor that hides her face.
COLONEL WHITE (Over radio) Attention, Angels. You are to stop Captain Black's vehicle from mobing, but you are not to harm him. I repeat, Captain Black must be kept alive.
DESTINY ANGEL Spectrum Is Green.
CUT TO:
INT. MELODY'S JET - NIGHT
MELODY ANGEL S.I.G.
CUT TO:
INT. SYMPHONY'S JET - NIGHT
SYMPHONY ANGEL S.I.G.
CUT TO:
INT. RHAPSODY'S JET - NIGHT
RHAPSODY ANGEL Spectrum Is Green.
CUT TO:
INT. HARMONY'S JET - NIGHT
HARMONY ANGEL S.I.G.
CUT TO:
EXT. GERMAN ROAD - NIGHT
Destiny's jet appears from out of the sky, leveling off over the road. Guns on each wing fire at Black's tires, which burst. He swerves the car sharply, throwing Scarlet off the top and into the road, and into a field, driving jerkily forwards through the grass. The five jets follow him.
Scarlet groans and gets to his knees.
DESTINY ANGEL (Over radio) Scarlet, he's heading South West. We 've got him n... Oh my God!
MELODY ANGEL (Over radio) What the hell is that?
Scarlet gets to his feet and begins running across the field, following the trail of crushed grass left by Black's car. In the distance, the five white jets can be seen circling over a certain point on the ground.
CUT TO:
EXT. FIELD - NIGHT
A breathless Scarlet reaches Black's abandoned car and leans his hands against it, stopping momentarily to catch his breath. He then continues running forwards, but almost falls of a ridge. He looks out and gasps.
He is at the edge of a large and deep crater, with the jets circling overhead. At the center, a small, sleek black capsule sits half embedded in the ground - a one man spacecraft.
A deep rumbling can be heard, shaking the ground. The capsule slowly begins rising out of the ground, flames emanating from it's underside. The flames lick upwards, filling the crater. Scarlet is blinded by the light, holding a half over his face and squinting.
SYMPHONY ANGEL (Over radio) We need to vacate the area!
The jets begin flying away from the capsule launch.
HARMONY ANGEL (Over radio) Captain, get out of there!
Scarlet ignores her, transfixed by the capsule. It rises slowly through the air, and the heat of the flames begins singing the grass. Scarlet stretches a hand towards the spacecraft as he becomes enveloped in the inferno.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Shouting) BLACK!
He is engulfed in flames, and ceases to be visible. The capsule continues rising into the air.
CUT TO BLACK.
FADE TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CONTROL CENTER
The Spectrum personnel scurry around the room, and shouts fill the air. There is an atmosphere of tension. White stands at the head of the conference table, observing a computer screen. Scarlet storms in through the entrance.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where the hell is he?
COLONEL WHITE Captain, you're meant to be on sick leave.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Do I look sick to you?
COLONEL WHITE You've been recovering for days. There's no way -
CAPTAIN SCARLET I'm fine. Where has Black gone?
LIEUTENANT GREEN He could have gone back to the Mysteron complex on Mars.
White rubs his chin in thought.
COLONEL WHITE It's a possibility.
Captain Blue enters, holding a chart.
CAPTAIN BLUE Colonel, satellites picked up his shuttle.
COLONEL WHITE Where is he?
CAPTAIN BLUE ...Well, the shuttle was last seen... in orbit of the moon.
Scarlet's eyes widen.
CAPTAIN SCARLET The moon? Did he land there?
CAPTAIN BLUE We don't know. We lost his signal... My guess is that his orbit took him around to the dark side.
CAPTAIN SCARLET It all makes sense!
COLONEL WHITE What does?
CAPTAIN SCARLET We could never for the life of us figure out why The Mysterons wanted Sang dead.
LIEUTENANT GREEN He was a world leader. Killing him has created chaos in the U.A.R.
CAPTAIN SCARLET They don't want chaos, they just want people dead... Sang was the one pushing for moon missions to continue, wasn't he?
White looks up at him in realisation.
CAPTAIN SCARLET If he'd gotten his way, they would have sent research teams up there... What if The Mysterons have something on the moon that they don't want us finding out about? Another complex, or a weapon?
COLONEL WHITE Robert told me he agreed with Sang's proposals... They're killing anybody who supports the research...
CAPTAIN SCARLET So that nobody finds out what they're doing.
CAPTAIN BLUE So what do we do about it?
White appears deep in thought.
LIEUTENANT GREEN Colonel?
White clears his throat loudly. Everybody turns to look at him.
COLONEL WHITE We... have reason to believe that Captain Black has traveled to the moon. We don't know why, but we can assume The Mysterons have something up there.
Some staff members begin to laugh. White glares at them, and they become instantly quiet.
COLONEL WHITE We need to deal with this right now. I'm sending a team to the moon... and I need volunteers.
The room is silent.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I volunteer.
CAPTAIN BLUE Me too.
Another long silence passes. Doctor Fawn steps forward.
DOCTOR FAWN You'll need me... I volunteer.
COLONEL WHITE Is there anybody else?
A beat passes.
DESTINY ANGEL I volunteer.
Destiny steps forward. Scarlet looks at her in surprise. She meets his gaze and glares at him coldly before looking back to White.
COLONEL WHITE Very well... We have our team. I'll contact Houston and tell them to start making preparations for an emergency launch tomorrow evening.
A beat passes.
COLONEL WHITE Whatever The Mysterons have on the moon is important enough for them to try and kill anybody who threatens to reveal it. Many have died so that their secret remains hidden... If we can end the war now, their deaths will not be in vain. This... This is how we'll avenge Captain Grey's death.
FADE TO:
EXT. LAUNCHPAD - NIGHT
The space shuttle launchpad is a large structure, apparently alone in the middle of the Texas desert. The white shuttle stands tall in it's launch structure, while far away, the command center, a large and flat building, has light coming from every window. Flames are emitted from the end of the shuttle as it slowly begins moving upwards. The launch structure crumples and falls to the ground.
CUT TO:
INT. SPACE SHUTTLE COCKPIT
Scarlet, Blue, Fawn and Destiny facing vertically upwards, clad in white space suits. The cockpit is full of complex control banks and computer equipment.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Here we go.
CUT TO:
EXT. LAUNCHPAD - NIGHT
The shuttle rises into the air, blasting flames outwards to propel itself up.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CONTROL CENTER
Everybody in the room observes a video feed of the launch on the table monitor.
CUT TO:
INT. DARK ROOM
The sound of footsteps can be heard. A spotlight clicks to life, bathing Captain Black in a pool of white light. He is still dressed in his jeans and leather jacket. The voice of The Mysterons echoes throughout the room, but it has a different quality than normal. It is as if they are actually present in the room.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) What news do you bring, Conrad Turner?
CAPTAIN BLACK I... have failed you, my masters. The Earth Men intervened. Robert Anderson is still alive.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) What of Roger Nicholson?
CAPTAIN BLACK I fear he is dead. Paul Metcalfe arrived at my place of residence... I was forced to flee here.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) You have indeed failed us, Conrad Turner.
Black closes his eyes.
CAPTAIN BLACK I beg you for forgiveness, my masters.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) On this occasion... We grant you redemption, Conrad Turner.
CAPTAIN BLACK Thank you! Thank you!
MYSTERONS (O.S.) Do not fail us again. What of the Earth Men?
CAPTAIN BLACK I... I fear I will be followed here.
MYSTERONS (O.S.) What? But if our operations here are ceased before the drilling is complete... We must leave this place as soon as possible, Conrad Turner. You will remain here to annihilate the Earth Men.
CAPTAIN BLACK I obey, my masters. I obey.
The light deactivates, and the room is left in pitch black darkness once again.
CUT TO:
INT. SPACE SHUTTLE
Blue, Scarlet and Destiny sit around a table. Fawn enters the room, handing out plates of a thick, gloopy soup-like substance.
DOCTOR FAWN Space paste. The breakfast of champions.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Playfully) Breakfast, lunch and dinner of champions. Space travel really isn't all it's cracked up to be.
DESTINY ANGEL (Coldly) Maybe you'd like something to wash it down with.
Scarlet looks up at her.
CAPTAIN SCARLET No... I'm good, thanks.
She appears slightly surprised.
DOCTOR FAWN So how much longer is this going to take?
CAPTAIN BLUE Well, we've been traveling for two days now... Probably the same again.
CAPTAIN SCARLET How come you volunteered, Doctor?
DOCTOR FAWN Well, you'd need somebody to help if you got sick or wounded.
A beat passes.
DOCTOR FAWN Plus, it's one for the grandchildren, right? I went to the moon to help fight aliens.
CAPTAIN BLUE Well, the bad news is that we might need to turn off the artificial gravity on the way home to save energy.
Scarlet laughs.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Brilliant. I've heard it makes the food at least half as delicious.
Destiny glares at him.
DESTINY ANGEL Captain, may I speak with you for a moment?
The smile vanishes from his face.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Sure.
CUT TO:
INT. SPACE SHUTTLE KITCHEN
The kitchen is small and cramped, and only lives up to the name 'kitchen' in the loosest sense of the word. A sink set into a small cabinet is bolted to the wall, while a cupboard hangs on the wall opposite. Destiny stands with her arms folded, with Scarlet standing at the opposite side of the room.
DESTINY ANGEL How can you do that?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Do what?
DESTINY ANGEL Pretend like everything's ok. Like you didn't do anything wrong.
Scarlet sighs.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I'm not trying to... I'm not. I know I was... I was reprehensible. I behaved disgustingly.
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET And... I'm sorry for that. I truly am. I could blame it on working conditions, or stress, but at the end of the day, it was my fault, and I apologise.
Destiny begrudgingly raises one corner of her mouth in a small smile.
DESTINY ANGEL That's a good start.
Scarlet grins.
CAPTAIN SCARLET If you don't mind... Could we make a fresh start? Try again?
DESTINY ANGEL ...That's a big leap.
A beat passes.
DESTINY ANGEL Look, if we get out of this alive... Then I think we should take it a step at a time. I don't want the same thing to happen again.
CAPTAIN SCARLET It won't. I promise.
They both smile awkwardly.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE MEDICAL WING
Robert lies in a hospital bed, sound asleep. White enters the cubicle. Robert's eyes slowly open.
ROBERT ANDERSON (Hoarsely) Colonel... What happened?
COLONEL WHITE You were poisoned by The Mysterons. It destroyed one of your lungs. We had a surgeon flown up here to perform a transplant, but... He turned out to be an assassin. Luckily, we were able to stop him.
Robert appears shocked.
ROBERT ANDERSON (Hoarsely) Thank... Thank you...
COLONEL WHITE So, what do you say? Are we worth keeping around now?
Robert smiles ever so slightly. White chuckles.
CUT TO:
EXT. SPACE
The Spectrum shuttle drifts through space. We PAN up to see that they have almost reached the moon, which glows brightly.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON LIGHT SIDE SURFACE
The shuttle sits upright on the surface of the moon. A white S.P.V with tank-style treads trundles slowly away from it - this is a Spectrum Lunar Vehicle (S.L.V.).
CUT TO:
INT. S.L.V.
Blue drives the vehicle, Scarlet sits in the gunner position, and Destiny and Fawn sit in passenger seats. White's voice sounds over the radio.
COLONEL WHITE (Over radio) You're approaching the dark side of the moon now. Once you pass into the darkness, we won't be able to contact each other. Whatever The Mysterons have up here... You're to destroy it. If possible, you're to eliminate Captain Black. Understood?
CAPTAIN BLUE S.I.G.
CUT TO:
INT. WHITE'S OFFICE
White sits at his desk speaking into the intercom, while Green stands behind him.
COLONEL WHITE Very well. I wish you all the best of luck. Godspeed.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON LIGHT SIDE SURFACE
The S.L.V. passes over the threshold of the dark side of the moon and disappears into the shadows.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON DARK SIDE SURFACE
Headlamps on the front of the vehicle click into life, illuminating the ground fifteen feet in front of it.
FADE TO:
INT. S.L.V.
Destiny is asleep in her chair. Scarlet yawns and rubs his eyes. Black notices something on the monitor and sits up stiffly.
CAPTAIN BLUE Hey... Hey! Take a look at this!
Destiny stirs and wake up. The three other lean in to view the monitor. In the inky blackness, a single white light can be seen in the distance.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What is that?
CAPTAIN BLUE I don't know... But I don't think we should go any further in this thing.
Blue and Scarlet turn to look at each other.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON DARK SIDE SURFACE
Scarlet, Blue and Destiny, clad in space suits, hop weightlessly towards the light, S.L.V. headlamps shinning on them. They reach the source of the light. It is a lamp above a thick, metallic door. Scarlet knocks a fist against it, creating a dull, echoing THUD.
DESTINY ANGEL (Over radio) What should we do?
A beat passes.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Over radio) I say we go in.
CAPTAIN BLUE (Over radio) Are you kidding? We don't even know what this place is!
CAPTAIN SCARLET No, we don't. But whatever it is, we need to destroy it. We're going to have a better chance of doing that from the inside, aren't we?
Scarlet presses a button on the glove of his suit. A small torch on the wrist activates, sending out a small beam of light. Scarlet shines it over the metal wall the door is built into until he finds what appears to be a button. He slowly stretches out his hand and presses it. With a HISS, the door slowly slides open.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Over radio) It's now or never.
Blue hesitates, then nods. The three file through the doorway.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON COMPLEX AIRLOCK
The chamber they have stepped into is small, with a door on each side. The primary door slides shut, and after a few seconds, the secondary door slides open.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON COMPLEX CORRIDOR
Scarlet, Blue and Destiny step into a sterile looking corridor, with grey, metallic walls, floors and ceilings. Lights set into the ceilings glow brightly. Destiny observes a small handheld computer device.
DESTINY ANGEL (Over radio) I'm picking up a decent amount of oxygen... It should be ok to take our suits off.
Destiny and Blue slowly turn to look at Scarlet. He sighs and undoes the latches on his helmet.
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Over radio) Figures.
He pulls off the helmet, and begins breathing normally.
CAPTAIN SCARLET It's fine.
The others begin taking off their space suits.
CUT TO:
INT. DARK ROOM
A computer screen shows a video feed of the Spectrum team entering the complex. The sound of a button clicking in the distance is heard, and the video rewinds to the point where Scarlet begins taking off his helmet. The button clicks again, and the video rewinds to the same point. The feed zooms in on Scarlet's face.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON COMPLEX CORRIDOR
The three are now dressed only in their ordinary Spectrum uniforms.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Ok, I think... I think we should split up, see what we can find.
DESTINY ANGEL Are you sure that's a good idea?
CAPTAIN SCARLET It's the quickest way to find out what's going on here... And to find out how to stop it. Destiny, you head in that direction. Blue, you take that corridor... And I'll head this way.
CAPTAIN BLUE I'll contact you if I find anything.
Blue walks down the corridor and around a corner at a cross junction of corridors.
DESTINY ANGEL Be careful.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I will.
Destiny walks down the corridor opposite to Blue's. Scarlet takes a deep breath and walks slowly down the corridor straight ahead, drawing his pistol.
CUT TO:
INT. CLOUDBASE CORRIDOR - NIGHT
White stands looking out of a window at the moon shining in the sky. He sighs.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON COMPLEX CORRIDOR
Scarlet presses himself against the wall next to a large door. He checks his pistol, and presses the button. The door hisses as it slides open, and Scarlet walks into the room.
CUT TO:
INT. DARK ROOM
The door slides shut, cutting out any light from the room. A spotlight clicks into life, shining on Scarlet, who is blinded by the brightness of it. He holds a hand over his face. Black's voice booms out from the darkness.
CAPTAIN BLACK (O.S.) Paul Metcalfe.
Scarlet raises his gun in front of him and fires a bullet into the darkness. It makes a sound as it ricochets off the wall.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where the hell are you, Black?
Another spotlight activated, illuminating Captain Black, who is now dressed in his black Spectrum uniform. He is standing on a raised platform.
CAPTAIN SCARLET This place is empty. Where are The Mysterons?
CAPTAIN BLACK They're gone. My masters have more pressing issues to attend to...
Scarlet slowly aims his gun at Black.
CAPTAIN BLACK We both know that won't do any good.
Scarlet lowers the gun.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Where have you been all this time?
CAPTAIN BLACK I've been up here, overseeing the operation...
CAPTAIN SCARLET What operation?
Black smirks. Suddenly, a terrible metallic roaring is head. A thin beam of light behind Scarlet appears at the floor and begins stretching upwards - an enormous window being uncovered. The cavernous room is flooded with light, revealing hundreds of strange computer terminals - the Mysteron Control Room. Black is standing at the back of the room, on an elevated platform filled with more computer equipment. Scarlet turns to face the window, and walks towards it gasping.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON DARK SIDE SURFACE
Scarlet is the size of a pin prick in the window, his astonished face looking out as hundreds of lights outside activate, revealing the extent of the complex.
Destiny and Blue's shocked faces can be seen peering out of other windows in the building.
The building is large, roughly the size of the White House, but the structure it is connected to is larger than anything on Earth. An enormous scaffolding rig stands tall, reaching above the extent of the lights and towards the heavens. In the middle of the rig, an unthinkably large drill bores down into the surface of the moon, drilling a massive hole. The hole is too deep for the bottom to be seen.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON CONTROL ROOM
Scarlet presses a hand against the window as Black approaches him from behind, standing next to him to observe the structure.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What the hell is that?
CAPTAIN BLACK It's... a mining rig. We're drilling a hole to the center of the moon.
CAPTAIN SCARLET What for?
CAPTAIN BLACK The bombs we used on your transport were prototypes. We've created a new, highly volatile compound... But it needed testing. Once the drilling is complete, we will deposit unimaginable quantities of it deep into the caverns, and then -
CAPTAIN SCARLET (Interrupting) You're going to blow the moon up from the inside.
CAPTAIN BLACK Your intelligence serves you well, Paul Matcalfe. It is a true shame that you are not by my side.
Scarlet turns to face him.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Excuse me?
CAPTAIN BLACK You have more in common with us than you do with them... You will never be able to die. You may not know it, but you will never be able to age. The people you love will wither away while you continue living for ever and ever... With no companion, for there will be nobody left to befriend.
CAPTAIN SCARLET Destroying the moon won't wipe out humanity.
CAPTAIN BLACK But it'll make an admirable start. Without the moon, the ocean tides will rise and rise, and cause lethal floods worldwide. Over five billion people will perish. Once this process is complete, all will be lost. We outnumber you twenty to one as it stands now. How will those odds change, I wonder, when there are under two billion humans left? The war ends here... Once the operation is complete, there will be nobody left to fight for Earth.
Black and Scarlet begin circling each other.
CAPTAIN SCARLET It's almost nostalgic.
Black smirks.
CAPTAIN SCARLET The thing is - You're not going to get the chance to detonate the bomb.
They come to a stop, with Black standing with his back to the window.
CAPTAIN BLACK Why not?
CAPTAIN SCARLET Because by the time it's ready... We'll both be as good as dead.
Scarlet lunges at Black, grabbing him around the waist and diving forwards towards the window.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON DARK SIDE SURFACE
The window shatters outwards, the shards of glass slowly flying through the air. Scarlet and Black glide slowly to the ground. They land in a heap on the ground.
CAPTAIN SCARLET I... I can breathe...
CAPTAIN BLACK Well, as touching as that attempted sacrifice would have been...
Black kicks Scarlet off him and bounces to his feet. Scarlet drifts through the air for a few feet before landing on the ground again.
CAPTAIN BLACK The Mysterons pumped the atmosphere full of oxygen. It lets me come and go as I please.
Black bounds over to Scarlet and kicks him in the stomach.
CAPTAIN BLACK Not going to fight back?
He kicks Scarlet again. Scarlet groans in pain on the ground.
CAPTAIN BLACK Of course not... Because you're weak.
Black raises his foot above Scarlet's neck and swiftly brings it down in a stomping motion. Scarlet catches the foot and throws it upwards, launching Black into the air. As Black slowly floats upwards, Scarlet gets to his feet and starts bouncing towards the scaffolding rig. Black growls in anger as he slowly begins sinking towards the ground.

CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL WARD - NIGHT
Daniel lies comatose in a bed in a clean private room. A green light on his life support plug blinks to show it is active. Two green rings of light pass over Daniel, and the light stops blinking. In his unconsciousness, Daniel begins gasping for breath.
INT. MINING RIG
Black bounces through the shadowy rig, the sound of his footsteps disguised by the whirring of the metal drill. He peers over the edge of the railing, looking down towards the drill far below. Rings of floored scaffolding extend down deep into the core of the moon, and high above. Black is on the middle level.
He slowly moves around his ring.CAPTAIN BLACKPaul Metcalfe... PAUL METCALFE? Scarlet drops down a ladder, landing on top of Black. The soles of his boots glow a bright blue. He steps off, able to move as if he would on Earth.CAPTAIN SCARLETGravity boots. Telum thought they'd come in handy. Scarlet kicks Black in the face, sending him flying backwards and into a vertical girder.CAPTAIN BLACKWell, if we're bringing technology into this... Black presses the Spectrum logo on his belt buckle. A short, high pitched WHINE is heard, and he immediately falls feet first to the sheet metal floor.CAPTAIN BLACKMagnetism. So primitive, and yet... So useful. Scarlet throws a punch at Black, who dodges it and punches his opponent in the stomach. Scarlet cries out in pain, and Black backhands him around the face. Scarlet stumbles sideways and hits the railing, toppling over the side.
Scarlet falls five levels before grabbing onto a railing. The portion he is holding onto rips away with his weight, and so he catches the railing of the next level down, vaulting over it and onto the floor.
Black sighs and twists the belt buckle clockwise. The WHINE sound is heard again, and he falls through the floor, the increased magnetism of the boots ripping the metal apart like paper.
CUT TO:
INT. HOSPITAL WARD - NIGHT
Daniel ceases moving, and his monitor emits a constant BEEEEP as he flatlines.
CUT TO:
INT. MINING RIG
Scarlet slowly walks forwards, his weapon raised. With a CRASH, Black falls through the ceiling, landing on his feet in front of him. Scarlet fires two rounds, but they float upwards. Scarlet tosses the gun away and runs at Black, tackling him to the ground. He gets to his knees and begins landing punch after punch on Black's face. Scarlet's knee accidentally presses into Black's belt buckle, causing his magnetic soles to activate. Black rockets, feet first and horizontally, towards a steel girder, with Scarlet holding onto Black and being pulled along. As soon as his feet come into contact with the metal, Black runs vertically up the girder at a 90 degree angle. Scarlet lets go, drops to the floor, and slides across the metal reaching out for his gun. Black begins running upside down along the ceiling. Scarlet grabs his pistol and aims it not in front of him, but at the ground underneath Black.CAPTAIN SCARLET(Muttered)Please let this work... BLAM BLAM BLAM. The three bullets fly horizontally upwards, coming into contact with Black's torso. He hangs limp, feet still connected to the ceiling. Scarlet stands up and tugs on his head, pulling him to the ground. Black is motionless in death. Scarlet bends down presses the end his gun against Black's forehead and fires it again, blood spattering over the barrel of the weapon.CAPTAIN SCARLETGood riddance. Scarlet draws himself to his full height and begins to limp towards a ladder. He hears the TINKLE of metal from behind him, and stops in his tracks. He slowly raises his pistol to observe it.
C.U. PISTOL
On the side of the gun, a small selector stud sits in between a tiny engraving of a lightning bolt, and a tiny engraving of a bullet. The stud is lodged in the direction of the bullet.
BACK TO SHOT
Scarlet's eyes widen as he turns around to see Black getting to his feet, bloody bullets slowly rising through the air around him.CAPTAIN BLACKI thought you'd learn. CAPTAIN SCARLETI guess not. Black grabs Scarlet in a bear hug and activates his boots. They tear through floor after floor together, Black using Scarlet as a human shield from the force of hitting the metal. They hit the final level, and Scarlet rolls over onto his back, groaning. Black picks up a broken portion of metal railing and wields it like a club.CAPTAIN BLACKYou were correct, Paul Metcalfe... This IS nostalgic.... Black begins beating Scarlet with the metal bar. Scarlet cries out in pain.CAPTAIN BLACKNot going to fight back? He brings the railing into contact with Scarlet's spine.CAPTAIN BLACKThere's nobody to help you now. You don't have your weapons, you don't have your gadgets... You don't have electricity. Black smacks Scarlet over the head, snapping the railing in two.CAPTAIN SCARLET(Hoarsely)No... He stands up suddenly and grabs Black by the throat, pushing him to the railing.CAPTAIN SCARLETBut I have this. Scarlet twists Black's belt buckle. Black appears horrified as he hears the whining noise signaling activation.CAPTAIN SCARLETThis is for Grey. Scarlet pushes Black over the railing, the boots gravitating towards the enormous metal drill.
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
Black stretches his hands out and screams as he falls towards the drill, eyes wide in terror.
EFFECT: NORMAL MOTION
Scarlet winces as the sound of crushing bones can be heard over the deafening whirring of the drill. He then begins running as fast as he can towards the nearest ladder.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON DARK SIDE SURFACE
Scarlet tears across the lunar surface towards the Mysteron complex, unhindered by the low gravity.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON CONTROL ROOM
Scarlet climbs into the room through the hole he and Black made and runs to the nearest computer terminal. He presses a button on his headset.CAPTAIN SCARLETBlue? Scarlet. You and Destiny need to get out of here, I'm going to blow the place up. CAPTAIN BLUE(Over radio)What the hell is that thing? CAPTAIN SCARLETI'll explain when I get back. Look, you and Destiny get in the S.L.V. and drive back to the shuttle. Don't waste time getting your suits on, you'll be able to breath while you're on the dark side. I'll catch up with you. CAPTAIN BLUE(Over radio)Ok, if you're sure... What about Black? CAPTAIN SCARLETHe's taken care of. Scarlet presses a button on a strange looking control panel. The screen activates.CAPTAIN SCARLET(Muttering)I don't understand any of this! Scarlet appears deep in thought for a moment and closes his eyes, concentrating hard.
CUT TO:
EXT. ENGLISH FIELD - NIGHT
Scarlet rolls out of a crashed car, bruised and bloodied.
CUT TO:

Scarlet pushes President Winters to his knees and holds a pistol to the back of his head.
CUT TO:
EXT. CAR-VU - DAY
EFFECT: SLOW MOTION
As the enormous Car-Vu collapses, Scarlet falls and falls in slow motion.
CUT TO
INT. MYSTERON CONTROL ROOM
Scarlet's eyes jerk open, and he gasps - they are completely white and glazed over.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON DARK SIDE SURFACE
Blue and Destiny exit the airlock and climb into the S.L.V. It roars into life, and maneuvers to start driving in the direction of the shuttle.
CUT TO:
INT. SPACE SHUTTLE
Fawn sits reading a book. A distant noise is heard offscreen.DOCTOR FAWNH... Hello? There is no reply. He stands up slowly and moves towards an open doorway.DOCTOR FAWNIs somebody there? He steps out of the doorway into a dark corridor. From out of the shadows, a pair of arms appear from behind Fawn and pull him into the darkness as he screams in terror.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON CONTROL ROOM
With his eyes glazed over, Scarlet begins typing into the Mysteron computer.CAPTAIN SCARLET(Talking to self)The explosives are being contained inside the drill itself... Clever... So if I set it to raise to the highest point possible and then detonate them, the moon won't be destroyed... But the base will. He presses a button. An alarm begins sounding.MYSTERONS(Recording)Attention. The detonation sequence has been activated. The operation will be complete in ten minutes. Prepare to transmit immediately. Every computer screen jumps to life, glowing softly.MYSTERONS(Recording)This is our final victory. Let us rejoice! Scarlet's eyes return to normal. He looks around, and notices that the door leading out of the room is slowly closing.MYSTERONS(Recording)Emergency lockdown procedures activated. CAPTAIN SCARLETOh crap. Scarlet begins running towards the door as it lowers itself down with a HISS. At the last minute, he deliberately falls onto his back and begins skidding along the smooth floor, one arm stretched out behind him.
CUT TO:
INT. MYSTERON COMPLEX CORRIDOR
Scarlet slides out of the room just as the door slams shut, with a horrific crunching noise. Scarlet screws up his face and screams in agony, pulling his arm out from under the door. Blood sprays over the walls as the flesh of the handless stump that used to be his forearm pulsates. Scarlet grits his teeth and stands up, limping onwards.
CUT TO:
EXT. MOON DARK SIDE SURFACE
Scarlet staggers quickly towards the mining rig, pressing a button on his headset.CAPTAIN SCARLETBlue? It's Scarlet again. Listen, I know it sounds crazy, but you're going to need to launch the shuttle and fly it over here. Scarlet raises his arm to look at it as he moves. The bones of his hand are beginning to sprout from the wound.CAPTAIN BLUE(Over headset)You can't be serious! CAPTAIN SCARLETLook, I'll get as high up as I can and latch on. You just need to do a fly by, ok? Scarlet continues moving towards the rig.
CUT TO:
INT. MINING RIG
Scarlet climbs up ladder after ladder, wincing as the tender layers of skin on his hand regrow. The drill slowly rises upwards through the centers of the rings, away from the crater.
CUT TO:
EXT. MINING RIG
Scarlet reaches the top level, a roof of sorts, and looks to the horizon. In the distance, the shuttle is visible, rapidly flying towards his position. He smiles briefly.MYSTERONS(Recording)Initiating detonation... now. CAPTAIN SCARLETOh, you have got to be kidding m- Small, rapid explosions begin occurring from within the drill. They soon trigger much larger explosions, which in turn trigger even larger explosions, and so on. Scarlet looks up as the shuttle passes overhead. He pulls a grapple gun from a holster on his belt and fires it at the shuttle, the cord rising through the air as the mining rig starts collapsing. Scarlet is yanked into the sky as a massive final explosion occurs beneath him, incinerating the scaffolding and anything on top of it. The explosion extends to the complex, which in turn explodes. The space shuttle makes a 180 degree turn, trailing Scarlet behind through the air, the tips of the flames licking at him. As the spacecraft rockets forwards, it is easy to see it is heading towards Earth.
CUT TO:
INT. SPACE SHUTTLE AIRLOCK
The external airlock door opens. Scarlet topples inside, having crawled across the shuttle to reach it. After a few seconds, the interior door opens, and Scarlet steps into the corridor.
CUT TO:
INT. SPACE SHUTTLECAPTAIN SCARLETWe did it! There is no reply.CAPTAIN SCARLETHello? Blue? Destiny? He begins walking down the corridor towards an open doorway.CAPTAIN SCARLETAdam? Juliette? Fawn? He stands in the doorway and gasps. Fawn, Blue and Destiny sit on the ground in the room, bound and gagged. Black appears from behind Scarlet, grabbing him by the neck and throwing him against a wall so hard that it dents. Black's uniform is torn, tattered and bloody, although he doesn't have a scratch on him.CAPTAIN BLACKTime and time again... Time and time again, you underestimate our ability to rebuild. Scarlet lies on the ground, dazed from the head trauma. Black grabs his collar and begins dragging him down the corridor.CAPTAIN BLACKTo rebuild ourselves, our complexes, our work... I suppose I shouldn't judge. After all, we've clearly underestimated your ability to meddle. But no more.Black dumps Scarlet in an open escape pod and closes the hatch.CAPTAIN BLACKI'd have killed your friends, but I'll need them to negotiate my way off this spacecraft when we reach Earth... And it's important that I be there for the final phase of the war effort, wouldn't you say? Destiny shouts, but her voice is muffled by her gag. Scarlet begins to come out of his daze and begins pounding on the escape pod window, his screams silenced by the thick glass.CAPTAIN BLACKBut I can't afford to take any chances with you. Goodbye, Paul Metcalfe. MUSIC: Black Hole Sun - SoundgardenBlack presses a large button set into the wall by the escape pod. The capsule slowly begins sliding out of it's compartment.
