A bird's-eye view of downtown Chicago, a thriving city. The Sears Tower stands above all else. The camera flies through the city to the Chicago Theater, then to the Buckingham Fountain. We see more towering skyscrapers and Lake Michigan. The camera then flies back to an image of the entire skyline. Suddenly, the image flickers back and forth between the skyline and a destroyed Chicago at night with buildings toppled and fires ravaging. The scene then changes to a dark, gloomy, and destroyed Chicago. The entire city is covered in ash and wreckage.
JACOB (V.O.)
This is what is left of the city of Chicago. Nobody knows what happened. Nobody knows anything. We woke up with no knowledge of anything, not even ourselves.
Cut to: flashes of people waking up in rubble and looking around, dazed. A slow drum beat begins to play.

Some of us were druggies.
Cut to: JON, a young Asian man standing on a cold, dark street. He looks at a beautiful woman laying next to him, NADIA, a stunning Asian woman and reaches into his pocket. He pulls out a bag of weed and looks around frantically. The beat and voice get still louder and faster by the second.

Cut to: the grouop of survivors settling in a park surrounded by destructed buildings
Jacob walks down a pathway next to the large group of survivors. He sees RACHEL sitting by herself on the pavement. When he approaches her, she just stares ahead.
JACOB
So, not the talking type, are you?
RACHEL (taken back)
Excuse me? We all just woke up in the middle of the city and look at it!
(Looking around at the destruction)
Millions of people just died, and nobody has any clue what happened! And to top it all of, I have no clue who I am, what I do, what my family is like-if I even have a family. Am I married, could I even have kids? How would I know?
JACOB
Alright, so maybe you are the talking type after all.
RACHEL
What are you, a comedian?
JACOB
I wouldn't know that, would I?
Rachel's face turns solemn and she looks at Jacob.
RACHEL
You don't remember either, do you?
JACOB
Not a thing before waking up in the middle of a public bathroom with a dead man on top of me.
RACHEL (looking around at other survivors)
We're not going to be able to survive like this. We've got no food, no water, and no shelter. We're all going to starve or freeze to death if we don't do something about it.
Jacob stares at the ground in deep thought.
RACHEL
Got any ideas?
JACOB
There are bound to be wild animals somwhere around here. We take a few people and try to get enough meat to hold us all off for a couple of days.
RACHEL
Good idea, if any of these guys know how to hunt.
(She points to the group of survivors)
But do you really expect them to share it with us all out of the goodness of their hearts? (Rolling eyes)
JACOB
Well, we'll see, won't we?
RACHEL
And what about water?
JACOB
Well, that's a tough one. The running water still works in most of these buildings, but it could be contaminated. We need to find a permanent water source. A large one, too.
JENNIFER
Lake Michigan?
JACOB
Assuming it is still there, yes.
JENNIFER
Good idea, but still, no matter how much food and water we have, we can't live outside in the middle of Chicago. It isn't too cold right now, but I have a feeling it won't stay this way.
JACOB
Well, I've been thinking. There might be a couple inhabitable buildings somewhere in the city. Maybe just a small house, a loft-anything. We can make our way up north to the lake, searching for food and shelter on the way. It'd be ideal if we found some shelter near the lake.
JENNIFER
And who do you mean by "we?"
JACOB
Well, I guess anybody who wants to come with. I'm not going to tell people what to do, I just think it'd be a good idea. Do you think anybody'd want to go?
JENNIFER
I don't see why not; it's the only way we're going to be able to survive here.
J-ROD
Oye! Yo necesito su ayuda!
Jacob and Rachel exchange glances.
JACOB
Do you speak English?
J-Rod gives a blank stare and runs of screaming "Mi pierna!"
JACOB
Guess that's a no, then?
Courtney laughs and stands up and pulls Jacob up by his arm.
JACOB
You never told me your name, Ma'am.
RACHEL
Rachel...Rachel Matthews. How about you?
JACOB
According to this (indicating his wallet), I'm Jacob King.
Cut to: Jacob approaching SEVEN in the street.
JACOB
Hey, what's your name?
SEVEN
Um-You can call me Seven.
Jacob looks as Seven oddly but does not say anything.
JACOB
So-Seven-I'm gathering a few people to go north and look for some water and shelter. You interested?
SEVEN
North? That's this way, right? (Seven points to his left)
JACOB
Yeah, just about there.
SEVEN
Well alright man, sounds good. When are we leaving?
JACOB
About ten minutes, once I convince a few more people to come along.
Jacob begins to walk away toward a group of people.
Cut to: FLASHBACK of the inside of a destroyed jail cell.
Seven is lying underneath a pile of bricks and wood. He begins rolling around and rises, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit. He looks around and walks up to the bars of his prison cell.
SEVEN (screaming)
Hello? Anybody out there?
He pauses and waits for a reply.
SEVEN
Anybody?
He then walks back to the spot where he woke up and sees a dead man also wearing an orange jumpsuit. He then walks over to a hole in the wall. Seven looks through the hole which leads to the outside. It reveals the complete destruction of the city.
SEVEN (whispering to self)
Holy-
Seven climbs down the building to the ground. When he reaches the ground, voices are heard around the corner. Seven looks at his orange jumpsuit, displaying the numbers “71787” and ducks into a semi-destroyed building.
The two people, DAVID and ADAM walk on the sidewalk, marveling at the complete destruction around them. David is holding a picture of his younger self standing next to Adam.
DAVID
So, you're my brother, huh? Adam?
ADAM
Sure seems like it.
David grabs Adam and throws him to the ground. He reaches to Adam's ankle.
DAVID
Then why are you hiding this?
David pulls out a gun from Adam's ankle.
ADAM
I swear man, I just woke up, and that was there! I don't know nothin' about guns or anythin' I ever did!
David takes the gun and walks away.
DAVID
I don't care what any of this says,
(David turns and hurls his wallet with the picture deep into the wreckage)
You're not my brother.
Cut to: Seven in destroyed building.
Seven walks in and sees a dead man on the floor wearing some normal clothes. He looks around and then takes the man's clothes and puts them on, placing his prison jumpsuit next to the man. He then walks out of the building.
Cut to: Jacob stands with Seven, Rachel, Sarah, Omar, and Jennifer. They are beginning to head off as Miller shows up.
MILLER
What, did my invitation get lost in the mail?
OMAR
Weren't you the guy stealing from dead bodies?
MILLER
Oh, don't give me that, Muhammad, like you wouldn't-
Omar interrupts Miller by tackling him onto the concrete, shouting.
OMAR
You stupid red-neck!
Omar begins swinging at Miller's face before he is pulled off.
JACOB (screaming)
Shut up!
Everybody comes to silence.
JACOB
I don't care if you two don't like eachother, that's none of my business. But if you're going to be at eachother's throats the whole time, find somewhere else to do it!
Miller walks up and stands face-to-face with Jacob, only inches apart.
MILLER
And who the hell are you?
RACHEL
He's the one who thought of this whole idea, and if you don't like it, why don't you just leave?
Miller turns and faces Rachel.
MILLER
Damn, we got a spicy girl here, don't we?
There is a pause of silence.
MILLER
Well hell, let's get a move on, King Jake!
Cut to: The group walking in the street. They pause and take a break on the sidewalk.
Jennifer walks up to Jacob and feels his muscle.
JENNIFER
Dang, those are nice.
Rachel lets out a loud, snorting laugh.
JENNIFER
What's so funny?
RACHEL
Nothing...just the fact that he's about fifteen years older than you.
Jennifer is about to respond, but Omar changes the subject.
OMAR

Oh, I don't know...thirty minutes or so.
SARAH
We'd better keep moving, right?
They continue to walk before Jennifer interrupts.
JENNIFER (looking around)
Hey, what happened to that big guy?
JACOB
What?
JENNIFER
You know...the big guy, he said his name was-what-Six,or something.
RACHEL (rolling her eyes)
Seven, actually.
JENNIFER
Whatever, he's gone.
MILLER
The guy probably saw a Twinkie factory or something, just forget about him.
SARAH
How about you shut your damn mouth? All you've done is bad-mouth everybody else here. If you hate us all so much, just leave!
Everybody becomes quiet and stops to watch as Miller approaches her slowly.
MILLER
Baby, once we get back, I'll teach you a thing or two about shutting your-
Miller is interrupted by Sarah slapping him in the face. Omar begins to laugh and then stare at Sarah.
SARAH (to Miller)
You're pathetic.
Cut to: Seven walking in the semi-destructed prison.
Seven walks down the hallway, which is lined with cells, until he reaches his own at the end of the hallway in a section marked "High Security."
Cut to: FLASHBACK of a now intact prison.
A few guards stand around, patrolling the cells.
Two guards walk in, escorting a prsioner, Seven, down the cell-block. They bring him to the cell at the end of the hallway and throw him in violently. Another man, older and white, is laying on one of the two beds.
MAN
Hope you last longer than the last one.
The man indicates a large blood mark on the wall above the other bed.
Cut to: Jacob and the other survivors walking along a road.
Looking straight down the street, Lake Michigan can be seen in the distance.
JACOB
Almost there, everybody. Just a few more-
Jacob is interrupted by a loud scream from Jennifer.
JENNIFER (pointing to wreckage)
I think that he's alive!
OMAR
Who?
JENNIFER
There’s somebody in there!
Everybody rushes over to the spot indicated and sees only two moving feet sticking out from under some wreckage.
MILLER
I don’t think we’re in Chicago anymore, Jen.

THIS APRIL
We see a group of people filing out of a juror box, now empty.
TWELVE STRANGERS
We see twelve people looking around akwardly, go to sit down around a large table.
WILL DECIDE ANOTHER'S FATE
We see one man holding a gun, showing it to the other jurors.
TEMPERS WILL FLARE
We see one man suddenly rise and begin shouting in another's face, who is just across the table. The other man springs up and the two thrust at eachother before the other jurors subdue them. Everybody is screaming and talking at once as an older man stands up and slams a book onto the table, and everybody becomes silent.
BURT REYNOLDS (V.O.)
We are to decide whether this man lives or dies...this cannot be taken lightly. This is not about you, your feelings, your prejudices, your life. This is about what is right...This is about justice.

The group begins to pull the debris off of the man’s body, revealing an older, balding man. The man begins wheezing and breathing heavily.
OMAR
Good, alright, now breathe slowly for me…
The man calms down and stands up.
MAN
How many of you survived?
JACOB
You make eighteen, buddy.
MAN (coughing)
Eighteen…
JACOB
What’s your name?
MAN (coughing)
My name-name is John Galt.
JACOB
Hello John, I’m Jacob. We’re going to get you back to our camp, but we’re very close to the lake, and that’s the whole reason we’re out here. So right after that, we’ll go back, and I’m sure we can help you out.
GALT
Thank you…Very much.
Cut to: Seven sitting in his cell, which features a television and a larger bed now.
A man walks buy and throws a piece of paper into the cell, which Seven picks up.
The note simply reads: “BACK GATE AT SEVEN”
Cut to: Seven near the fence of the prison, next to a set of weights.
Seven sits down and begins benching when another man walks up.
MAN
Man, you best got my stuff by now!
SEVEN
Chill James, I got it right here.
Two other men run up from behind and tackle James onto the ground. Seven walks over to him and puts his foot on James’s face.
SEVEN
I don’t know who the hell you think you are, James, but you’ve gotta get this through your stupid, little head: I run the show here.
Seven kicks James in the ribs.
SEVEN
I practically own this place. When I say jump, you say “How high, Daddy?”
Seven kicks James again in the ribs and in the face.
SEVEN
We clear on that?
JAMES (coughing up blood)
Yeah…clear.
Seven walks away with a smirk on his face.
Cut to: Jacob and the group standing near Lake Michigan. The sun has set and the town is completely dark now.
MILLER
Well, it’s about damn time, ain’t it?
The survivors begin walking up to the lake, when Seven suddenly appears out of nowhere.
JACOB
Where were you?
SEVEN
What?
JACOB
You vanished and all of the sudden show up now? Where did you go?
There is an eerie silence as Seven looks down at the ground. After a few more seconds, he looks up at a building and points.
SEVEN (pointing)
Hey, what’s-
Suddenly, a gunshot pierces the air. Omar collapses to the ground, screaming in pain.
OMAR
AHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
The other survivors duck to the ground and take cover behind benches, ect. Jacob and Miller run to grab Omar and hurriedly drag him behind a large mound of rubble. Jacob begins to apply pressure on Omar's bullet wound, which is on his leg. Blood drips down his pants and onto the ground.
MILLER
So, that'd be aliens, right?

-Commercial break-

-----------------------------------------
The group begins to pull the debris off of the man’s body, revealing an older, balding man.
