Series Pilot: Dreams Down The Drain
Episode: Untitled
----------------
VO: Hi, I'm Matthew Page, and this is my story. It's my story of my attempt to get to the top, and it is the story of all of those who helped me to get there. I'm glad you decided to come to hear me tell my story. And I want to thank every one of you.
(The scene opens up, with the title screen in big letters.)
Dreams Down The Drain
(Jerry Tyler is seen sitting in his apartment reading the newspaper. Matthew is in the fridge, looking for food.)
Jerry: Are you hungry again?
Matthew: Kind of, I had a long day.
Jerry: You were at the commercial shoot for Red Lobster. You got to eat free after the shoot! How can you be hungry?
Matthew: I dunno. I just am. Do we have any like, junk food?
Jerry: Yeah, but a rock star has to be thin to look good. Didn't we review this?
Matthew: You're an actor, how would you know what a rock star should look like?
Jerry: Believe me. I'd know. Now find something and leave me alone.
Matthew: Whatever.
(Matthew looks through some cupboards and finally finds a bag of potato chips.)
Matthew: You didn't want these chips, did ya?
Jerry: No, no, whatever.
Matthew: Alright.
(Matthew goes into his room.)
VO: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention him. That's my roommate Jerry, if there's anybody that I want to thank, I'd like to thank him. He's been the most help to me through my hard times. He took me in when I was at rock bottom. He met me when he was filming a movie, and we just sort of became friends. I told him what my plans were for life, and he respected that.
(Matthew comes back out a few minutes later with a guitar wrapped around him.)
Matthew: Check this song out.. It's great!
Jerry: Yep, and that's what you said about the last song, too.
Matthew: No, this one is really good!
Jerry: Go ahead. I got nothing better to do, and I don't need my ears I guess.
(Matthew starts to play really badly, and Jerry pretends to be enjoying it.)
Matthew: Here we are, in the middle of nowhere, nowhere to go, nothing to do... Here we are!
(Matthew stops, pausing to see Jerry's reaction.)
Jerry: That was it. Thank you! Now about the song... I'd say it needs a little work.
(Matthew leaves, not even taking the pointless advice.)
Jerry: Now I can get back to my paper.
(Matthew starts playing from his room, with his guitar now plugged into the amp. Jerry puts the paper down, and looks over to the bedroom door.)
Jerry: You know what? Whatever...
(Jerry turns the TV on.)
VO: Sometimes, it really seemed like he just wanted to me mean to me, but I know that it was only for my own good that he did the things he did. He always told me that a rock star has to be able to deal with hardship. I always believed him. I didn’t know why, but he always seemed really wise to me.
(Jerry is watching VH1 and there is a special on about Led Zeppelin.)
Jerry: Hey Matthew! It’s your favorite band on VH1!
Matthew: Pink Floyd?
Jerry: No! Led Zeppelin!
Matthew: Oh…. Man! You had my hopes up.
Jerry: You don’t like them?
Matthew: Not their biggest fan, but I like a few of their songs.
Jerry: Oh. Alright.
Matthew: Tell me if Pink Floyd comes on though.
Jerry: Alright.
(Jerry is watching the special, and Matthew comes out with is guitar again.)
Matthew: Hey Jerry.
Jerry: What do you want now?!
Matthew: You don’t have to be mean! I just wanted to tell you that we’re out of potato chips.
Jerry: Oh… That’s it?
Matthew: Well, yeah.
Jerry: Get! I’ll get some at the store tomorrow!
Matthew: Always being mean to me! Let me tell you, one day, you’re gonna get it buddy boy! One these days, Jerry. One of these days.
Jerry: All the way to the moon, whatever.
VO: Sometimes I just wanted to hit him. But I didn’t because inside, he believed in me. I knew it, and he knew it. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, he knew.
