The scene opens from black and the only thing that can be seen is the front cover of a book, reading ‘Holy Bible’. The Bible opens, the pages flipping by themselves. The voice of Cameron Williams, also known as ‘Buck’ can be heard.
Buck(VO)- Sometimes, we think that we’re doing better than we could in some other type of situation.
The pages continue flipping passing the Old Testament, and beginning on the New Testament.
Buck(VO)- We think that we’re better off than we really are. I mean, who would have thought that something so drastic could happen that it changes the face of the world forever?
The pages flip until they hit the book of Revelation, where they stop.
Buck(VO)- We thought we knew better, but in the end, as it turns out, we really didn’t know what we thought we did.
Cut to a shot of Jerusalem, Israel. People are seen when text is seen popping up at the bottom of the screen.
Jerusalem, Israel - 6:00 PM
The scene cuts around, showing the Wailing Wall, and many of the mosques and synagogues seen in Jerusalem. The scene continues to show people walking, talking, and living their lives as the scene then cuts to a desert.
Baghdad, Iraq - 6:03 PM
In the Iraqi desert, planes are seen flying overhead. They continue flying, as more and more planes are seen coming from the distance. The scene then shows a desert in Syria.
Syria - 6:05 PM
Planes are seen coming from Syria now, different planes than those in Iraq. As the scene fades to black, a dramatic music plays. The scene then cuts to a wheat field, and the wheat is growing very well. The camera pans across the field quickly, and a fairly young news reporter is seen with an older man, who looks to be the one who owns the field. The two men look into the camera that is about 10 feet in front of them, and the reporter begins talking.
Buck- Buck Williams, reporting live from the deserts of Israel. You don’t believe me, do you? I am standing in a wheat field in Israel! And a live wheat field at that. Right beside me is the man behind it all. The scientist who created this oasis, who goes by the name of Dr. Chaim Rosensweig. Mr. Rosensweig--
Chaim- Please, just call me Chaim.
Buck- Alright. Chaim, what got you into thinking to do this?
Chaim- I knew that there had to be something I could do to give my people something better than what they had. It was this.
Buck- So… Big businesses all over want a taste of this formula. What is your asking price for it, Chaim?
Chaim- I love the thought, but Eden is not for sale. No. Not for any money. All I want is peace for Israel and my people.
Planes are heard flying overhead. Buck looks back, seeing them coming.
Buck- Wow. The Israeli Air Force is out pretty late tonight, aren’t they Chaim?
Chaim looks back, a worried expression begins to come over his face.
Chaim- Buck… Those are not our planes. Not coming from that direction.
Buck- They’re not?
Chaim grabs Buck by the arm, pulling him out of the way of some fired shots. The sky suddenly gets darker, and Chaim continues pulling Buck. Chaim trips over something, and Buck, end up being the one pulling him eventually. The cameramen follow and the bombers start shooting at the men. They get into a large building just before being shot at, making it in safely. The two men go to the radar in the building, watching the planes fly over the building, turn around, and fly over again. They can hear shots hitting the roof, but it isn’t affecting the building at all. Explosions are then seen hitting the blips on the radar, and the planes are disappearing off of the screen.
Buck- Who’s shooting at them?
Chaim- They’re not going down! It’s a cruel trick!
Buck- Only one way to find out I guess.
Buck grabs the camera and a satellite dish from the crew and opens the door. He goes outside and turns the camera on. Explosions are seen above, fire is raining from the sky. Buck looks up, not believing what he is seeing. He gets the camera to face the explosions, then he gets in front of the camera.
Buck- Buck Williams, back to you from Israel. As you can see behind me, fire is raining from the sky, shooting down the enemy jets behind me, and eliminating them from Israel! It is said in ancient scripture that fire will rain down, protecting the Lord’s chosen people from any harm that will come to them.
An older man, native of the city, is seen coming from behind a building, moving slowly and calmly, despite the attack from above. He looks at Buck, and Buck points the camera at him.
Israeli- War will continue until the end… Israel wants peace, but cannot have it, as there are just too many enemies. The Lord will save his chosen people after all, and it will be shown who those people really are.
The older man walks off as a piece of debris from a jet comes down, and Buck ducks out of the way. The debris hit’s the camera and the scene cuts, the title appearing in big blue letters.
Theme Song
The scene cuts in to Buck at GNN Headquarters in Chicago. He is about inside the building when his cell phone starts to ring.
Buck- Buck Williams…
A voice is heard over the phone.
VOP- This is Dirk. Meet me at the, uh… The usual spot, I guess.
The line cuts and Buck puts his phone away. He then heads back out to the parking lot, straight to his car. The scene then cuts to him driving up a ramp inside a large parking garage. Buck gets out of his car and sees Dirk, the guy who called him, leaning against the wall. Buck walks over to him.
Buck- What did you want, Dirk?
Dirk- I found out who was behind the bombing!
Buck- What are you talking about?
Dirk- The bombing in Israel! I know who it was.
Buck- And what have you got?
Dirk- Rosensweig. What do you know about Rosensweig?
Buck- Why does Rosensweig matter?
Dirk- Just tell me what you know about him! I’m sure that he told you something about himself.
Buck- Nothing much, other than that he’s a scientist and he created that formula.
Dirk- Well, if it’s not him, then it’s got to be the guys behind him.
Buck- What?
Dirk- Stonagol. It all makes sense to me now.
Buck- Dirk… He’s a banker. He has virtually no power.
Dirk- That is where you’re wrong Buck. They have money. And money equals power.
Buck- You need to slow it down a couple thousand RPMs. Seriously.
Dirk pulls the face off of his watch, revealing a very small disk. He holds it up to Buck.
Dirk- Do you have any idea what this is?
Buck- I think I’m going to be afraid to find out, but go ahead and humor me on what exactly that is.
Dirk- This is the information from Stonagol’s computer. It has all of his plans on it, plans of every type!
Buck reaches for the disc.
Dirk- No. I can’t let you have it. It’s too dangerous. I mean, what if you get caught?
Buck- Who would be looking for it?
Dirk- The CIA, possibly even the FBI.
Buck- Did anyone even see you doing this?
Dirk- Well… I’m not positive. It’s possible that I was seen. Just believe me. You don’t want to get caught with this information.
Dirk pulls a packet of papers out of his jacket pocket.
Dirk- You know what these are though?
Buck- Uh… Papers…
Dirk- No. These are not just papers. These are Stonagol’s plans to take over the planet.
Buck- Dirk… This is an old college essay! Nothing else.
Buck takes the packet from Dirk and flips through it.
Dirk- Take that, and see what you make of it after you actually finish reading through it. It won’t seem so crazy when this is all finally coming together for you, too.
Buck- I don’t see anything productive coming out of this, but…
Dirk- Just do this favor for an old college buddy.
Buck- When’s the last time you slept?
Dirk has a puzzled look on his face, trying to figure out when he slept last.
Dirk- Look, I’ll get all the sleep I need when I’m dead.
Buck- Dirk. You know me. If you have a good story for me, I’ll drive it all the way down to the core. Until I find something, only me and you know about this.
Dirk- Thank you Buck. You’re a great man.
Buck- Sure thing Dirk.
Buck gets into his car and drives down the ramp as the scene cuts to him watching tape from Israel that wasn’t broadcasted over in the US. He keeps rewinding and fast forwarding at different points, and he finally gets to the man talking to him. The man is speaking in some foreign language, presumably Hebrew.
Buck- That’s funny… He was speaking in English when I was over there. I wonder what was going on.
Steve Plank, Buck’s immediate superior, is seen standing behind him.
Steve- Well, apparently you are going insane. That is some full fledged Hebrew on that video.
Buck- But I was there. It was English when he told me about it.
Steve- What did he say?
Buck- I… I don’t really remember, but I do know that I understood every word. Something about war and the Chosen People.
Steve- We can kind of assume from that, I guess, that he was talking about Israel then.
Buck- Yep.
Steve walks further into the room. He has a tape in his hand.
Steve- I wanted to see what you thought of this newscast though. That’s the reason that I’m here.
Buck- Alright.
Steve puts the tape in the player that Buck is using after he ejects the tape that Buck is already messing with. Nicolae Carpathia is seen in a Romanian field, little children behind him.
Nicolae- Well, it has come. A problem that we thought was only commonplace in third world countries has now hit the depths of some of the best countries in the world, including England, Romania, Russia, and most parts of the US. We are talking about hunger. Famine. Fear. Starvation. All rolled into one big ball. Yes. It is now a huge problem for us all, and we must work together, or unite, for lack of a better word, to help stop the hunger from spreading and eventually wiping out a majority of our populations.
The scene cuts to a very large mansion. Nicolae Carpathia, the President of Romania, is seen sitting down on a couch, a cup of tea in his hand. Jonathon Stonagol is seen standing next to a window, looking outside.
Stonagol- So, you are on your way up, and people are loving you. I can see you as a UN ambassador before long.
Nicolae- Well, I don’t quite think--
Stonagol- Nicolae, please. You’re a natural. It won’t be long.
Nicolae- Well, if you say so…
Stonagol- I do say so. I also say that I have big plans for you. You are the President of Romania, as we all know, and you also need a new office. Here is what I’m looking at.
He rolls out blue prints across the table sitting in front of Nicolae, flattening the edges with glass paperweights. Nicolae gets down on his knees to look at it, and he looks at the entire thing, looking back up at Stonagol.
Nicolae- It’s… beautiful. GC. Very nice name. What does it mean?
Stonagol- Global Community. You did say that you wanted to unite the world and create peace, no? This will be your chance. I’m sure everyone will love it.
Nicolae looks back down at the plans and the scene cuts to a suburb just outside of Chicago. The camera pans around, showing different streets and some stuff in Chicago like Soldier Field. The scene then cuts to a house in a suburb, and zooms in. The scene cuts to a bedroom, and a tall man with dark hair is seen standing there in a pilot’s uniform. Rayford Steele, a pilot, grabs his hat and bags and walks out of the room. He starts going down the stairs where Irene is seen putting streamers up.
Irene- I thought your plane didn’t leave until midnight.
Rayford- They just called me. They need it to leave immediately.
Rayford’s son, Rayford Jr., or known by his family as ‘Raymie’ looks up from his Nintendo DS.
Raymie- You can’t stay for my party?
Rayford- No, sorry buddy.
Irene- Why can’t you just tell them no?
Rayford- Gotta pay the bills somehow, don’t I?
Irene- Yes, but I don’t see why you can’t miss just one flight.
Rayford- Well, I need to buy Raymie his gift.
Raymie looks up again.
Rayford- What do you want?
Raymie- Get me, a knight’s helmet or…
Rayford- Or?
Raymie- Or a sword… Or one of those long pointy sticks they put heads on.
Rayford looks at Irene.
Rayford- Where does he come up with this stuff?
Raymie- Sunday school.
Rayford looks down at Raymie, a grin on his face, shaking his head.
Raymie- But seriously Dad, you have to go now?
Rayford- If you want me to get that knight’s helmet I do.
Raymie- OK.
Rayford kisses Irene and she sighs. He can tell by the look on her face that she’s not happy with him leaving now. He walks over to the door and opens it. Bruce Barnes, the pastor at Irene’s church, is seen with his son.
Rayford- Well, hello Bruce.
Bruce- Hey, Ray. Haven’t seen you at service in a while.
Rayford- Well, some people have to work, even on Sundays.
Bruce shrugs and walks in with his son. They walk past. Rayford goes out to his car after telling Raymie and Irene and now Chloe goodbye. He gets into his car and Chloe walks over to the rolled down window.
Chloe- Dad, I think you really hurt Raymie in there. Why did you have to rush off so quick?
Rayford- I have to go to work, it’s called a job. Welcome to the real world. Plus, you’re heading out of there awful quick.
Chloe- I have exams.
Rayford- Well, I have work, like I just said.
Chloe- Yeah, but sometimes, would it hurt so much to even make Mom think that you give a damn about what she thinks?
Rayford- You don’t care either.
Chloe- No, but I try. I really do. It’s not always about you, you know. It’s not like it’s absolutely necessary for you to run away all the time.
Rayford- Good luck on your exams sweetheart.
Rayford backs out of the driveway and Chloe looks at the car driving off in disgust. She then walks over to her own car and opens the door as the scene fades to black. The scene then cuts to Rayford in the cockpit of his plane.
Rayford- The trip from London, England to Chicago, Illinois will be taking off momentarily. Please remain seated until after takeoff.
Rayford and his copilot start flipping a few switches. The scene cuts to an exterior of the plane and it begins moving. The scene then cuts to later that night. Buck is seen typing away at his laptop, and Hattie Durham, a flight attendant on the plane, is seen right behind him.
Hattie(quietly)- Would you like some coffee?
Buck jumps, looking behind him.
Buck- Oh, it’s you. You scared me.
Hattie- Sorry. I can tell when you’re working on a big story though. I should have thought about that before I talked.
Buck- It’s alright.
Hattie- Oh, and before I forget, guess what.
Buck- What?
Hattie- I got the job at GNN!
Buck- Really? That’s great. I’m sure you’ll do amazing.
Hattie- I’m starting on the first of the month.
Buck- That’s amazing. I’m glad to see you doing great things.
A call button can be heard going off.
Hattie- Ugh. And here I thought I was going to have a quiet night tonight.
Hattie walks off and the camera pans, showing an older couple sitting next to each other. The scene then cuts to inside the cockpit. Rayford is seen sitting in his seat, looking out the front window. He looks at his watch, seeing that it’s about 3 in the morning. He looks over at the copilot.
Rayford- Hey, you mind if I take a walk real quick?
Copilot- Yeah, not a problem. I got this under control.
Rayford- Alright, thanks.
Copilot- No problem.
Rayford gets out, walking out into the main passenger area. He looks around, seeing many sleeping passengers. The scene then cuts as a slow dramatic background song plays. The scene shows Buck typing away at his laptop. It then shows Hattie walking along the plane with a pillow in her hands. She sees a little girl that looks pretty uncomfortable. She kneels down beside the girl.
Hattie- Here, you want a pillow?
The girl nods, and leans forward. Hattie places the pillow and the girl leans back, now looking more comfortable than she did a minute ago. Hattie gets back up, walking along the aisle at the passengers. The scene then shows Rayford walking along the aisle, looking at the passengers. He then goes to the flight attendant area. The scene shows Buck looking at a news article about Nicolae Carpathia. He has a very focused look on his face as he scans the article again and again, looking for keywords to pop out at him. The scene again cuts to Rayford at the flight attendants’ station, and Hattie comes over to him.
Hattie- Don’t you have a flight to be piloting?
Rayford- Mac’s got that covered.
Hattie- Good. I don’t want to see this plane crashing.
Hattie walks over to Rayford, kissing him on the cheek. Rayford looks into her eyes, seeing that she has a very loving look on her face.
Rayford- Look, Hattie. I can’t do this. I’m married, and I realize that if I’m going to stay married to Irene, I may as well act like I’m married, and not run around on her like this.
Hattie- I see…
Rayford- It’s nothing against you.
Hattie- No, I know. Don’t worry about it.
Rayford- You do understand… right?
Hattie- No, of course I do.
Rayford- You don’t.
Hattie- Well, you haven’t had a problem with it for the past few months.
Rayford- I haven’t seen the light for the past couple months though Hattie. This is my marriage that I’m talking about here, not just some love that I’m looking for. I need to keep my marriage alive, because I love Irene.
Hattie- I just don’t know about you sometimes, Rayford.
Rayford- Can we please not get into this here? It’s really not the right place to start a scene. They see the pilot arguing and they’re going to think something’s wrong.
Hattie- Whatever. We’ll talk about it later then.
Rayford- Alright.
Rayford turns around to leave and Buck is seen sleeping a few minutes later. He wakes up quickly, with a jump. He sees an old woman sitting a few seats away who seems to be looking for her husband. He gets up and walks over to her.
Woman- Sir, could you help me with something?
Buck- Yes, I would be glad to assist you if you need help.
Woman- Well, my husband… seems to have wondered off.
Buck- I see.
Woman- I was wondering if you could possibly… find him for me? I’m an old woman, and the last thing I need to do is look for my husband while worrying about where he’s at.
Buck- I am sure that he only went to use the restroom.
Woman- But it would be great if you could please check for me?
Buck- I would be happy to.
Woman- Thank you.
Buck turns to leave.
Woman- Oh, almost forgot. You may want this.
Buck turns around to see the woman holding out a blanket. Buck looks at it, a confused look taking over his entire face.
Woman- Well… Harold seems to have gone off naked.
She points to a complete outfit, sprawled out on the airplane seat as though there were someone in them, except that they are flat against the seat. Buck then looks at the closed, still confused, and he shakes his head, not sure what exactly to make of the situation. He looks at the towel, the old woman, then the blanket, trying to piece everything together. He then walks off, still confused. The scene cuts to Rayford, again walking around the plane, making sure that everything is peaceful. He finally gets back into the cockpit and the scene shows Hattie, walking around. She sees a woman quickly stand to her feet, looking horrified.
Hattie- Is there something that I can help you with?
Woman #2(sobbing)- My b..baby is…g…gone!
Hattie- Excuse me miss?
Woman #2- My baby has disappeared! I don’t know what happened to her, and I don’t know where to look!
Hattie- Don’t worry, we’ll find the baby.
Woman #2- Oh God… I hope so, I really do… She means everything to me!
Hattie- Not to worry. Not to worry at all. This is all under control.
The other passengers start looking around, hearing the screaming, and everyone begins to look around and some realize that they have loved ones missing and start to panic. They continue looking around, hoping that they will find their missing loved ones, but nobody finds them, and Rayford hears the noise in the cockpit.
Rayford- Buddy, I’m gonna go out and see what all the commotion is about.
He gets a nod and goes out into the plane. He looks around, seeing all of the people panicking, and he looks over at Hattie, who is next to a woman on her knees.
Rayford- Hattie! What’s going on here?
Hattie- People are missing relatives, children, friends, you name it. Almost half the passengers, most of them young children seem to have disappeared!
Rayford- They can’t have…
Rayford shouts, getting all the people in the area of the plane that he’s in to quiet down.
Rayford- People, I’m going to need to ask you to get back into your seats. We are over 37,000 feet in the air, so I can guarantee you that nobody just walked off of this airplane. If you’re missing loved ones, I can assure you that they are here somewhere.
As Rayford is heard saying this, the scene shows Buck walking to the bathroom and knocking. He knocks again and then just opens the door. He sees a pair of glasses and set of clothes of someone who seems to have disappeared while using the restroom.
Buck- Oh, dear God.
Buck smacks the wall and looks back, seeing Rayford trying to calm the passengers down. Buck walks past Rayford and starts helping crying people to their seats.
Buck- Look, everything is going to be just fine. We’re going to land the plane and then we’re going to find your missing loved ones! Believe me, it is under control!
A man, fairly tall with short dark brown hair stands up, looking at Buck.
Man- How can it be completely under control when the pilot himself has just told us that he doesn’t even know what in the hell is going on? I want to know where my wife and children are, and I expect some answers, or this airline is going to hear from my attorney.
Buck- Just leave it to us, and we’ll find your wife and kids. Don’t worry. Now everyone sit down for just a minute!
Everyone slowly gets to their seats and sit down quietly. Buck then looks back at Rayford, who is staring back, shocked that the people are actually listening to what Buck says.
Rayford- How did you get them to actually listen to you, another passenger, when they wouldn’t listen to their own damn pilot?
Buck- Let’s just say I’ve got a way with words. Alright? Now what I need you to do is release the oxygen masks. These people need to breathe, and it will sort of calm them down.
Rayford- That’s for emergencies though.
Buck- And you’re telling me that this doesn’t constitute as some sort of emergency? Just do it, because it will calm the people down!
Rayford- Alright, I will.
Rayford turns around, going back into the cockpit, and Buck sits in his seat. A few seconds later, the oxygen masks drop, and some passengers who are already calm help some of the other passengers in putting the masks on, as some of them aren’t real sure of how to do it. The scene shows Rayford in the cockpit, saying something over the radio, then he hears a voice telling him that it is clear to land. The scene shows the exterior of the plane lowering. The scene then cuts to black.
