Posting this late, as I finished the film yesterday. Having read all of Daz's work (minus the Watchmen stuff..yuck), it's becoming increasingly difficult to rank them from best to worst. At the end of the review, I'll give it a shot.
"Making Of..." was a very nice read, a little slow at parts, but nothing too bad. I think I can say that it's my favorite comedy on the site, unless I'm forgetting one. The timing is near-perfect for all the jokes, which I love. The thing that sets it apart from most other comedies, 18th and 19th road included, is the style of humor. This seems to be a smarter comedy, relying less and less on raunchy comedy. It's refreshing and great to see.
The characters, at least the focal ones, are well developed and easily identifiable. Though some of the minor ones come and go so much as to make it difficult to make a connection, it doesn't effect the script much.
The film reminded me a lot of the David Duchovny film "The TV Set". My only criticism would be that the film ran on too long, especially for a comedy.
Overall I'd give it something like a 4/5. Very great script from Daz who seems to at least stay on par with his films, if not get better each time.
So to rank his films, this is the best I can do. I certainly hope I am not forgetting anything.
1. Brunch 2. X4 3. Making Of... 4. X-Men Origins: Gambit 5. Wicked (not a film, but still such a great set of stories) 6. 18th Road 7. 19th Road
