It's hard to review this script, because it's written in a mockumentary style, and as such, the humour doesn't exactly come from the page. Mockumentaries gain something in translation, with much of the comedy coming from the performances of the actors, both verbally and non-verbally. However, what Daz has written would serve as the basis for a very funny film, which I suppose is the criteria I should be judging it by. The main characters were well-rounded and clearly defined in a very short space of time, which is a very hard thing to do, but Daz pulled it off. Some of the supporting characters are substantially more one-dimensional, but given the lack of emphasis the narrative gives them this is hardly a problem. They're stock character who pop up when they need to make a joke, and disappear afterwards. This isn't a negative; they complement the main cast well.
I suppose my only major problem with the script was that it dragged near the middle. It's around 120 pages long, which is quite long for a comedy, and it definitely feels this length. Some distractions could have been cut, I feel - such as the first screening of the film, by which point it was already clear enough that the fictional film-within-a-film was a disaster, and it seemed to be hammering a point in. It feels like an end-of-act-2 moment, but it occurs around halfway through.
However, pacing problems aside, Making Of is an excellent piece of work, and just further proves that Daz is one of the finest writers of the site. I definitely recommend giving this script a read.
