It has come to my attention that the chat of Movie Reels is in need of some law and order. I think it is time to bring rules back and to take control of people who want to break the rules. That is why the following rules are being put into place officially as of Sunday December 7th, 2008 @ 10:19 PM.
It doesn't matter who you are or what rank you hold -- anyone who goes against the rules will be punished (joke or no joke).
Impersonating Users | This has been happening a lot as of late and there comes a time where you need to put your foot down to end it. If you intend to chat with others -- please come as yourself and not as someone else.
Demeaning Users | It is completely immature and ridiculous to criticize, make fun or demean anyone on this site -- again joke or not -- this is a serious matter. I take high regard of people's feelings on this site. If you truly feel that you are demeaned in the chat -- send me a private message and I will take care of it.
Please takes these rules into high consideration. They are all currently in effect and you MUST abide to them or action will be taken against you. Thank You.
Records Chart 12/07 - Hellblazer [1st Offense] Demeaning Another User 12/07 - Joey [1st Offense] Impersonating Another User 12/08 - Hellblazer [2nd Offense] Demeaning Another User 12/08 - Batman [1st Offense] Impersonating Another User

This is going to end the same way as the first time did. People breaking them just to break them.

This is going to end the same way as the first time did. People breaking them just to break them. Yeah, but let's look at the different consequences this time -- it's a whole new playing field. ~Mr. Vincent

They're virtually the same if I remember right.

They're virtually the same if I remember right. Not entirely and on another note -- you will see how the new rules will be enforced. I'm almost positive that things will turn around in the chat. ~Mr. Vincent

I still think it'll end the same. But we'll see.

honestly, the issues and stuff in the chat are so irregular and most of the time the people who can enforce the rules see the situation out of context or aren't there when the shit goes down.
really i'm not in favour of the rules. honestly, there's a difference between mocking someone in jest, and demeaning them. and really half the time it is only said in jest, and people know, accept and enjoy that kind of thing.
i mean i can joke around with hellblazer, nat, blaggers, tbh anyone here and trade insults. it's not demeaning to me because it's said in jest. and i believe that goes for most people here.
also i don't think we ever really have situations here (rockstar's outbursts and cristogate 3 being the exceptions) that get to the point where banning from the forums and such is warranted.
and the only person imo that ever really gets demeaned in anyway in the chat is indy, and again, most of the time people are just joking with him; and he knows that. but that's a two way street, indy irritates someone, that person's going to react to it. it's just the way it is. indy creates some thread, and you're only seeing one side of the story, it's taken out of context and bans are thrown around and the situation becomes bigger than it should be.
in my honest opinion, rules for the chat, only leads to more rule breaking. and some of the rules are just plain stupid. especially the impersonating one. i mean impersonating someone's not a real offence really, unless the impersonation is done to insult someone or cause shit between the person the impersonater is insulting, and the impersonatee.
and again, the demaning thing is completely ridiculous. because very few times has someone actually been demaned in the chat. like i said, there is a difference between demaning some and just messing around and mocking someone in jest.
honestly, i feel more demeaned by having my freedom of speech regulated by someone of "power" than i have by comments made by others in the chat.
this turned into a longer post that i anticipated, but all in all; not in favour.

Once again Vince, thank you very much for discussing this with the other admins before announcing it.
In case you couldn't tell, Vince, that was sarcasm. Anyway, these rules are beyond stupid, and I agree with everything Daz said. So, does this mean Batman will be banned for calling me Harry Potter? Sure, it may be a joke, but it's DEMEANING. You can't put these generalised rules on everything, because most people here do banter in the chat and take insults jokingly and with a pinch of salt. All you're doing is completely removing the fun from the chatbox. Just because you can't differentiate between jokes and real insults doesn't mean we can't.
I propose, in place of these ridiculous rules, we put a single one in place; the 'Don't be a dick' rule. It's simple - if you act like a dick, you'll get banned. This is the criteria I use for banning anyway, but I suggest it be made official.
Vince, these same rules made the chat a horrible place to be when they were first unveiled, and they'll do the same now. Have some common sense and get rid of them.

What Daz said! such good points. I told Xplay once that I only annoy him because he gets annoyed easily and he makes it too easy, but I'm never serious about it, Like seriously Vince, apart from one or two users, we're all just joking and taking the piss half the time. Also Vince, you can't be expected to be in the chat at all times, so the rules are ridiculous because if nobody agrees with them and nobody will get banned by anyone, and I think its pretty damn harsh if you put Casa in a position to chose between the rules and talking to his friends. Even Casa found it funny when I impersonated him, perhaps ask people if they feel hurt/demeaned before banning, because half the time, its taken out of context. Anyway, inforcing rules upon us feels lame. Its the internet, there are no rules!

Also heres a perfect example of Indy taking a joke: moviereels.proboards103.com/index.cgi?board=closedthreads&action=display&thread=6461What I said about him being Cristo, his reply clearly was clearly taking it as a joke. If everyone was impersonating Daz, and Indy was also doing it, I'm pretty fucking sure Indy would find it funny and so would Daz for that matter, its just cause its "indy" but if it was someone else he'd be like "rofl"
