HOW TO PLAY

Important Note: It is very important that you read through everything slowly and carefully. Everything you need to know about this website is organized into different sections below. It is vital that you don't skip over any of the sections and that you read through each part. Thank You.

What can you do at Movie Reels? As a member of Movie Reels you are presented with several ways in which you can enjoy our site. Please note that you are not forced to become either a Director or Critic: you can do as much work in either one or both fields as you like.

Movie Director

What you need to know...

#1.) Become a Director - Create your very own masterpiece with either a screenplay or a filmed movie. We have all of the necessary tools for you to accomplish your vision. Watch as your film opens at our movie theater, 'Cine-Plex Theaters'. How will your film do? Will it be a huge success or a total flop? View the weekly 'Box Office' to see where your film places among other films as well as information on how many tickets have been sold.

Create Your Movie Preview - Once you've chosen the position of a movie director you can now begin to get the word out on any upcoming projects/films you have planned. It's always great to see new films on Movie Reels and by showing what you have to offer you can now entice people to see your film and at the same time offer great promotion on your behalf.

When you become a director for Movie Reels you are presented with all of these options. You have the option to either write your movie in a screenplay/script format or to actually film it. You can choose to promote your film with theatrical trailers or television commercial spots. The director who becomes Director of the Month will be awarded four extra weeks of runtime for use with future films.

#3.) Putting together your film- All directors are given two options in which they can release their films. The first option you are given is to release your film as a screenplay/script that everyone can read. To do this you must have a word document--for an example "Microsoft Word". Write out all your entire screenplay or script and make sure to save it. Once you've finished writing you can proceed to *(step #4). The other and more popular option in which you can release your film is to actually film it. To do this you must have a video camera and proper connections such as a USB cord. If you have any questions regarding this option please ask in the Movie Reels Help Desk where we will give you a fast and speedy response to your problem. Once you've finished filming your movie--you are now ready to turn it in. Proceed to (step #4) for the details.

#4.) Submitting your film- To submit your film, click on the following link:

http://moviereels.proboards103.com/index....lm%20Submission

-------------------------------

#2.) Become a Movie Critic- A movie critic is a very important aspect/job when it comes to judging a particular film. To be a good movie critic you will need to write detailed reviews, giving clear examples of what you like or do not like in a film, as well as giving the writer advice on what to improve in their future work. It is also helpful if you include a score for the film at the end of your review, based on a ratings scale of your choosing (for example, a score out of four, out of ten or a simple thumbs up or thumbs down), but this is not essential.

-------------------------------

The Box Office

Once you've submitted your film--you are now ready to take it to Cine-Plex Theaters.

What happens now? When your film opens in Cine-Plex Theaters you are now ready to experience a real life atmosphere of what a "Movie Director" must sit back and watch. Just like in real life, people will purchase tickets to see your film. Your film will remain in the Cine-Plex for eight weeks, after which it will experience a down-time period of six weeks. After this, your film will be moved to the Movies channel in the TV board to be viewed freely. You cannot sell tickets for the film at this point, but people are still free to review your work.

Well, if you can confirm to me that you understand all the rules. Send me a PM saying you'd like to become a director. I will give you a $100,000 budget and you can work from there. If you have anymore questions--don't hesitate to contact me. :)

P.S. Post this in the Help Desk Section next time ;)

Well if you understand all the criteria listed above for "Movie Directors"--then you can get started. You have two choices and two ways of doing your film:

#1.) Write it out. You have the choice to release your film as a script/screenplay.

#2.) Film it. Your 2nd and last choice is to actually film your movie. All films will be uploaded on youtube under the "Movie Reels" account. You have the option to have your film under private viewing to prevent anyone but people from Movie Reels from viewing it.

If you have any further questions, need advise or need more help--please let me know.

On a side note, if you have any future problems or have questions--please ask them in the "Help Desk". Thanks. :)

I will do that all for you. Let's just take this step by step. Once you complete your script; let me know and we'll take it from there. That way--this will all come natural to you and will be easier to understand. :)

Write your script in a note pad (for an example: Microsoft Word). Make sure to save all your work. Once you finish--let me know and we'll take it from there. Were going to take this step by step. Whatever you do--do not post it on the forum. Just write your script in a word document and let me know when you finish and we'll go from that point. Thanks.

I don't think the 10% per sale grossing system works very fairly. On the one hand it doesn't discourage people from making more ambitious films, but on the other hand it means that the more money you spend the more money you make, no matter how good your film is.

If you have a film for $300,000 and a film for $60,000, it takes them 10 sales each to recoup their costs, but if the $300,000 movie sells eleven tickets it makes $30,000 profit, while the $60,000 movie would need to sell 15 tickets to make that much. That doesn't seem very fair. Four more people wanted to see the $60,000 film. Doesn't that mean something?

I hope this isn't how it works, because if it is I'll just wait until I get next month's budget so I can inflate my script and make more money.
